Suji Uhm, MD, MPH
Clinical Associate Professor, Obstetrics & Gynecology
BioDr. Suji Uhm is a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist at Stanford Health Care. She also serves as a clinical associate professor in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Division of Gynecology & Gynecologic Specialties at Stanford University School of Medicine.
Dr. Uhm offers a wide range of gynecologic services, including gynecologic care, routine and complex contraceptive and abortion services, and wellness exams. She strives to provide safe, patient-centered care and often cares for patients who have medical conditions that complicate contraceptive use or report prior negative experiences.
Dr. Uhm’s research focuses on assessing the safety and effectiveness of contraceptive methods. She has been an investigator in multiple industry-sponsored and National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded studies, including the evaluation of extending the use of a subdermal implant, nonhormonal IUD, vaginal ring, and contraceptive patch.
Dr. Uhm has been published in several peer-reviewed journals, including Contraception, Nature, and The American Journal of Surgery. She has also presented to colleagues at regional, national, and international meetings, including the Society of Family Planning (SFP) annual meeting.
Dr. Uhm is a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and SFP. She is also a member of the National Abortion Federation and Physicians for Reproductive Health. -
Anja Ulfeldt

BioAnja Ulfeldt is an interdisciplinary sculptor and durational installation artist working primarily in sculpture and time based media. Through interaction, sound, and performance, her work considers infrastructure and resources as they relate to ideas around stability, mobility and personal agency. Anja earned her BFA from California College of the Arts and her MFA from Stanford University. She has recently had solo exhibitions at the Museum of Craft and Design, San Francisco, Recology Artist in Residence Program and Sierra Arts Foundation, Reno.. She is a recipient of the Visions from the New California Award, the TSFF & SOMArts Murphy and Cadogan Contemporary Art Award, The AAF/Seebacher Prize for Fine Arts and the Joan Mitchell Foundation Emerging Artist Finalist Award.

Mirko Uljarevic
Clinical Associate Professor, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences
BioI am a medically trained researcher focused academic with a background in developmental psychopathology, psychometrics and big data science. My research takes a life-span perspective and is driven by the urgent need to improve outcomes for people with autism and other neuropsychiatric (NPD) disorders and neurodevelopmental conditions (NDD). My primary research interest has focused on combining cutting-edge psychometric procedures and a big data approach to better understand structure of clinical phenotypes across autism and other NPD and NDD and on using this knowledge to improve existing and develop new clinical assessments that are more effective for screening and diagnosis, tracking the natural and treatment-related symptom progression and for use in genetic and neurobiological studies. In addition to my focus on the development of outcome measures, I have collaborated with leading psychopathology researchers and groups in the United States, Europe and Australia on numerous projects spanning a range of topics including genetics, treatment and employment, with a particular focus on understanding risk and resilience factors underpinning poor mental health outcomes in adolescents and adults. Most recently, through several competitively funded projects, I have led the statistical analyses to uncover the latent structure of social and communication and restricted and repetitive behaviors (RRB) clinical phenotypes across NPD and NDD. These findings have enabled us to (i) start capturing and characterizing a highly variable social functioning phenotype across a range of disorders and understanding mechanisms underpinning this variability, (ii) combine phenotypic and genetic units of analyses to advance our understanding of the genetic architecture of RRB, and (iii) focus on identification and characterization of subgroups of individuals that share distinct symptom profiles and demonstrate clinical utility and neurobiological validity. Importantly, this work has provided key information for developing a programmatic line of research aimed at developing novel, comprehensive assessment protocols that combine parent and clinician reports, objective functioning indicators and incorporate state-of-the-art psychometric, mobile and connected technologies and procedures.
I am a co-director of the recently established Program for Psychometrics and Measurement-Based Care (https://med.stanford.edu/sppmc.html) that aims to bring together world-leading expertise in clinical science, psychometrics, and big data analytics to bridge the gap between the science of measurement development and clinical practice and bring improvements to both clinical care and research. -
Jeffrey Ullman

BioJeff Ullman is the Stanford W. Ascherman Professor of Engineering
(Emeritus) in the Department of Computer Science at Stanford and CEO
of Gradiance Corp. He received the B.S. degree from Columbia
University in 1963 and the PhD from Princeton in 1966. Prior to his
appointment at Stanford in 1979, he was a member of the technical
staff of Bell Laboratories from
1966-1969, and on the faculty of Princeton University between
1969 and 1979. From 1990-1994, he was chair of the Stanford Computer
Science Department. Ullman was elected to the National Academy of
Engineering in 1989, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in
2012, and has held Guggenheim and Einstein Fellowships. He has
received the Sigmod Contributions Award (1996), the ACM Karl V. Karlstrom
Outstanding Educator Award (1998), the Knuth Prize (2000),
the Sigmod E. F. Codd Innovations award (2006), the IEEE von
Neumann medal (2010), and the NEC C&C Foundation Prize (2017).
He is the author of 16 books, including books
on database systems, compilers, automata theory, and algorithms. -
Ndidi Unaka
Clinical Professor, Pediatrics
BioDr. Unaka is the inaugural Chief Health Equity Officer (CHEO) for Stanford Medicine Children’s Health (SMCH) and a Clinical Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Stanford University School of Medicine. Prior to her transition to SMCH in July 2024, Dr. Unaka was a faculty member in the Division of Hospital Medicine at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. In addition to her clinical role as a pediatric hospitalist, Dr. Unaka served as the Associate Program Director of the Pediatric Residency Program from 2011 – January 2022. She served as the medical director of a 48- bed inpatient unit primarily for patients admitted to the Hospital Medicine service. In this role, Dr. Unaka was involved in several equity-oriented quality improvement initiatives which included work to identify, and address hunger among caregivers of hospitalized children insured by Medicaid.
Dr. Unaka worked on institution-level community health initiatives at Cincinnati Children’s. She served as the Medical Director of Quality Improvement and Data Analytics for Cincinnati Children’s Medicaid- focused, accountable care organization (HealthVine). In this role, she developed and led initiatives designed to improve the quality and efficiency of health care delivery to HealthVine’s patient population and helped lead the change management associated with the movement toward a population-health care model that improves quality, narrows equity gaps, streamlines care, and reduces costs. She helped define appropriate health care delivery, equity, and population health measures and quality benchmarks. Additionally, Dr. Unaka was a faculty lead within Cincinnati Children's Fisher Child Health Equity Center, and she specifically focused on working with operations leaders to ensure equity was embedded within all strategic plans, goals, and metrics across all sites of care. Dr. Unaka partnered with several colleagues to lead system-wide quality improvement initiatives including work accelerated via learning networks. She was the co-lead of Cincinnati Children's Health Equity Network (HEN), an initiative borne out of the pursuit of excellent and equitable health outcomes for youth in Greater Cincinnati. The HEN supports clinical teams seeking to eliminate disparities in child health outcomes by race, ethnicity, and/or socioeconomic status via targeted interventions and best practices by addressing both medical and social factors known to confer poor health outcomes. -
Crystal Unzueta, MD
Clinical Assistant Professor, Medicine - Primary Care and Population Health
BioDr. Unzueta is a board-certified family medicine physician. She specializes in providing primary care services to people of all ages. Her services include annual check-ups, monitoring chronic conditions, and performing minor in-office procedures.
She is also a clinical assistant professor in the Stanford School of Medicine Department of Family Medicine.
Dr. Unzueta’s practice focuses on providing compassionate and comprehensive care. She specializes in providing bilingual and bicultural care for patients in underserved populations. She has traveled to Belize on a medical mission to provide free, basic primary care to vulnerable communities. Her mentoring work includes building a network of Latino medical students to help support each other throughout medical school. She has also worked on numerous volunteer projects, such as researching the benefits of a community yoga program for minorities in underserved areas. -

Rob Urstein
Lecturer
BioRob Urstein is a Lecturer in Management at the Stanford Graduate School of Business where he teaches courses on innovation in higher education. An experienced academic leader, Urstein has more than 25 years of professional experience managing academic programs and teaching, advising, and coaching learners at all levels. He collaborates on research projects and serves as a governing board member of the College Transition Collaborative, which brings together pioneering social psychologists, education researchers, and higher education practitioners to create learning environments that produce more equitable higher education outcomes.
In addition to his teaching and research, Urstein is co-founder of Gather Learning. He previously worked with Guild Education and Entangled Ventures.
Urstein spent more than twelve years in leadership roles at Stanford, including three years as Associate Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, Dean of Freshmen, and Director of Undergraduate Advising and Research, where he was responsible for the transition of new undergraduates to Stanford; academic advising; undergraduate research programs, and academic policy and progress. At the Graduate School of Business, Urstein served for eight years as Assistant Dean, leading the PhD Program, and for two years as Managing Director of Global Innovation Programs, where he managed a portfolio of on campus and international programs focused on leadership, innovation, and entrepreneurship. He has taught MBA students since 2008. Prior to Stanford, he was a Fulbright Senior Scholar in Oslo, Norway, working for the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Education. He has been at Stanford since 2004. -
Camille Utterback

BioCamille Utterback is an internationally acclaimed artist whose interactive installations and reactive sculptures engage participants in a dynamic process of kinesthetic discovery and play. Utterback’s work explores the aesthetic and experiential possibilities of linking computational systems to human movement and gesture in layered and often humorous ways. Her work focuses attention on the continued relevance and richness of the body in our increasingly mediated world.
Her work has been exhibited at galleries, festivals, and museums internationally, including The Frist Center for Visual Arts, Nashville, TN; The Orange County Museum of Art, Newport Beach, CA; ZERO1 The Art & Technology Network, San Jose, CA; The New Museum of Contemporary Art, The American Museum of the Moving Image, New York; The NTT InterCommunication Center, Tokyo; The Seoul Metropolitan Museum of Art; The Netherlands Institute for Media Art; The Taipei Museum of Contemporary Art; The Center for Contemporary Art, Kiev, Ukraine; and the Ars Electronica Center, Austria. Utterback’s work is in private and public collections including Hewlett Packard, Itaú Cultural Institute in São Paolo, Brazil, and La Caixa Foundation in Barcelona, Spain.
Awards and honors include a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship (2009), a Transmediale International Media Art Festival Award (2005), a Rockefeller Foundation New Media Fellowship (2002) and a commission from the Whitney Museum for the CODeDOC project on their ArtPort website (2002). Utterback holds a US patent for a video tracking system she developed while working as a research fellow at New York University (2004). Her work has been featured in The New York Times (2010, 2009, 2003, 2002, 2001), Art in America (October, 2004), Wired Magazine (February 2004), ARTnews (2001) and many other publications. It is also included in Thames & Hudson’s World of Art – Digital Art book (2003) by Christiane Paul.
Recent public commissions include works for the Liberty Mutual Group, the FOR-SITE Foundation, The Sacramento Airport, The City of San Jose, California, The City of Fontana, California, and the City of St. Louis Park, Minnesota. Other commissions include projects for The American Museum of Natural History in New York, The Pittsburgh Children’s Museum, The Manhattan Children’s Museum, Herman Miller, Shiseido Cosmetics, and other private corporations.
Utterback is currently an Assistant Professor in the Art and Art History Department at Stanford University. She holds a BA in Art from Williams College, and a Masters degree from The Interactive Telecommunications Program at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. She currently lives and works in San Francisco. -

BioMy research interests are focused on understanding the molecular basis of early development and stem cells, as it is often aberrations in stem cells or signaling mechanisms between tissues that lead to diseased states, including tumor development and cancer progression. Knowledge of stem cells and development is also critical to develop appropriate cell-based therapies for various diseases or injuries. My prior and current works take advantage of both traditional techniques (gene targeting, lineage tracing) and state-of-the-art technologies (Single cell RNA sequencing, Chromatin Immunoprecipitation (ChIP-seq), Imaging Mass Cytometry) to elucidate fundamental molecular mechanisms underlying signaling in tissue biology.

Sharif Vakili, MD, MBA, MS
Clinical Assistant Professor, Medicine - Primary Care and Population Health
BioSharif Vakili, MD, MBA, MS, (pronouns: he/him), is an internal medicine physician, clinician executive and educator. He practices at Stanford Los Altos Primary Care.
Dr. Vakili has a background in chronic disease management and health systems delivery, believing strongly in a teamwork approach to patient care that empowers patients to navigate the health system as part of their clinical care.
He is active in the research and business communities. His research has been in peer-reviewed journals including JAMA Network Open, the Annals of Emergency Medicine, Quality Management in Healthcare, and the Journal of Clinical Rheumatology. He also teaches annually at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
Dr. Vakili is credited with establishing and coining Remote Patient Intervention (RPI), a model of clinician-supervised AI care delivery first performed at Stanford during a clinical study published in JAMA Network Open. -

Juan Rafael Valdez
Lecturer
BioJuan R. Valdez is a teacher and a writer. He enjoys teaching as a way of helping students to optimally develop their communicative skills, while they also develop a critical sense of community and coexistence in a diverse and complex world. Juan belongs to the tradition of maroon intellectuals and socionaturalists who roam at will between the city and the wilderness and between science and literature. His writings explore the experiences, visions, and stories of those who walk the earth and leave little trace. His publications include: Tracing Dominican identity: the writings of Pedro Henríquez Ureña (Palgrave Macmillan, 2011) and En busca de la identidad: la obra de Pedro Henríquez Ureña (Ediciones Katatay, 2015). His latest book Sendas Extraviadas (Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana-UAM, 2024) is a series of essays on "aimless" walking that explore the possibility of overcoming perilous notions of politics, absurd racism, and consumerist madness. It also proposes strengthening our sense of place and belonging in the world by cultivating our relationship with nature. When Juan is not teaching, studying, or reading, he's hiking, tending to his plants, and having a good laugh.

Tulio Valdez, MD, MSc

BioDr. Tulio A Valdez is a surgeon scientist with a subspecialty interest in Pediatric Otolaryngology. He attended medical school at Universidad Javeriana in Bogota Colombia before undertaking his residency in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery in Boston. He completed his Pediatric Otolaryngology Fellowship at Texas Children’s Hospital (2007), Houston and obtained his Master’s in Clinical and Translational Research at the University of Connecticut.
Clinically, Dr. Valdez has an interest in pediatric sleep apnea. He has a special interest in the management of sinus disease in cystic fibrosis. Dr. Valdez has co-authored one textbook and numerous book chapters and scientific manuscripts. Dr. Valdez continues his clinical research in these areas, particularly with a focus on aerodigestive disorders.
Scientifically, Dr. Valdez has developed various imaging methods to diagnose otitis media and cholesteatoma a middle ear condition that can lead to hearing loss. He was part of the Laser Biomedical Research Center at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His research includes novel imaging modalities to better diagnose ear infections one of the most common pediatric problems. His research has now expanded to include better intraoperative imaging modalities in pediatric patients to improve surgical outcomes without the need for radiation exposure.
Dr. Valdez believes in multi-disciplinary collaborations to tackle medical problems and has co-invented various medical devices and surgical simulation models. -
Keara E. Valentine

BioKeara E. Valentine, Psy.D., is a clinical assistant professor at Stanford University School of Medicine in the Psychosocial Treatment Clinic and OCD Clinic, where she specializes in the assessment and treatment of OCD and related disorders. Dr. Valentine utilizes behavioral-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) with children, adolescents, and adults experiencing anxiety-related disorders.
Dr. Valentine completed an APA accredited pre-doctoral internship at Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital, where she complete a rotation in OCD and anxiety disorders and a rotation in Eating Disorders. Dr. Valentine has experience working with individuals with OCD, anxiety, and/or eating disorders at various levels of care including outpatient, partial hospitalization, residential, and inpatient. -
Melissa Valentine

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsAs societies develop and adopt new technologies, they fundamentally change how work is organized. The intertwined relationship between technology and organizing has played out time and again, and scholars predict that new internet and data analytic technologies will spur disruptive transformations to work and organizing.
These changes are already well-documented in the construction of new market arrangements by companies such as Upwork and TaskRabbit, which defined new categories of “gig workers.” Yet less is known about how internet and data analytic technologies are transforming the design of large, complex organizations, which confront and solve much different coordination problems than gig platform companies.
Questions related to the structuring of work in bureaucratic organizations have been explored for over a century in the industrial engineering and organizational design fields. Some of these concepts are now so commonplace as to be taken for granted. Yet there was a time when researchers, workers, managers, and policymakers defined and constructed concepts including jobs, careers, teams, managers, or functions.
My research program argues that some of these fundamental concepts need to be revisited in light of advances in internet and data analytic technologies, which are changing how work is divided and integrated in organizations and broader societies. I study how our prior notions of jobs, teams, departments, and bureaucracy itself are evolving in the age of crowdsourcing, algorithms, and increasing technical specialization. In particular, my research is untangling how data analytic technologies and hyper-specialization shape the division and integration of labor in complex, collaborative production efforts characteristic of organizations. -

Axel Valle, PsyD

BioDr. Axel Valle is a licensed clinical psychologist providing individual psychotherapy in English and Spanish. He specializes in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and anxiety disorders, with additional expertise in working with high-performance athletes.
Dr. Valle brings a distinctive international clinical background to his practice. He completed his postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford University School of Medicine’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and earned his doctorate in clinical psychology from The Wright Institute in Berkeley. He also holds a Master’s degree in crisis and trauma from Tel Aviv University and is a licensed clinical psychologist in Mexico City, his place of origin. -

Keith Van Haren, MD

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsOur research team is working to develop new treatments for children at risk of neurodegenerative diseases. We are primarily focused on multiple sclerosis and X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy, two conditions that involve inflammatory and metabolic disruption of the myelin that insulates brain cells. A key area of interest for us is how nutrient deficiencies during childhood may contribute to the disease processes and whether nutritional interventions could play a role in prevention.

My laboratory explores the direct molecular impact of chromatin-modifying enzymes during cell cycle progression, and characterizes the unappreciated and unconventional roles that these chromatin factors have on cytoplasmic function such as protein synthesis.

Peter Johannes van Roessel
Clinical Professor, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences
BioDr. Peter van Roessel, MD, PhD, completed his MD at Stanford University and his residency training in psychiatry at Columbia University and the New York-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City, with additional training in psychodynamic psychotherapy via the Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research. Prior to joining the clinical faculty at Stanford, he worked for several years as Associate Director of the general research unit of the New York State Psychiatric Institute, a premier state-funded research hospital affiliated with Columbia University.
At Stanford, Dr. van Roessel sees adult mood and anxiety disorders outpatients through the Assessment and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Clinics and participates in resident training and patient care as director of the resident Continuity Clinic and as a supervisor in psychodynamic psychotherapy. He additionally directs the third-year resident curriculum in psychopathology and psychopharmacology and co-leads a new adult outpatient ketamine-assisted psychotherapy clinic.
As Director of Clinical Research for the department's Rodriguez Translational Therapeutics Lab, he sees individuals with obsessive-compulsive spectrum disorders for evaluations and research-protocol driven clinical treatment and leads clinical neuroscience studies pioneering rapid-acting interventions in OCD. Clinically motivated research interests include the nature and neural correlates of metacognitive awareness ('insight') in OCD and related disorders, and particularly the relationship of awareness to mechanisms of attentional control and the processing of incongruity and error. Dr. van Roessel additionally contributes as co-investigator to the Suppes Exploratory Therapeutics Laboratory and to the Williams PANLab, on clinical trials advancing psychedelic-assisted psychotherapies and biomarker-informed precision medicine in depression and posttraumatic stress disorder.
Dr. van Roessel pursued research training in basic neuroscience prior to his clinical training, completing an MPhil in Biology via the Open University, UK, for research performed at the Max Planck Institute for Developmental Biology in Tübingen Germany, and a PhD in molecular and developmental neurobiology at the University of Cambridge, UK. He has contributed to work in the lab of Dr Julia Kaltschmidt (Stanford) on studies of GABAergic/Glutamatergic interneuronal circuity in mouse. He received a 2018 NARSAD Young Investigator Award to pursue study of nitrous oxide as a rapid-acting treatment for OCD, he was a 2020-2022 Miller Foundation Fellow, and from 2020 to 2022 was a Advanced Fellow in Mental Illness Treatment and Research via the Sierra Pacific Mental Illness Research, Education, and Clinical Center of the Palo Alto VA. Dr. van Roessel is a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a member of the American College of Psychiatrists. -
Benjamin Van Roy

BioBenjamin Van Roy is a Professor at Stanford University, where he has served on the faculty since 1998. His current research focuses on reinforcement learning. Beyond academia, he leads a DeepMind Research team in Mountain View, and has also led research programs at Unica (acquired by IBM), Enuvis (acquired by SiRF), and Morgan Stanley.
He is a Fellow of INFORMS and IEEE and has served on the editorial boards of Machine Learning, Mathematics of Operations Research, for which he co-edited the Learning Theory Area, Operations Research, for which he edited the Financial Engineering Area, and the INFORMS Journal on Optimization. He received the SB in Computer Science and Engineering and the SM and PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, all from MIT, where his doctoral research was advised by John N. Tstitsiklis. He has been a recipient of the MIT George C. Newton Undergraduate Laboratory Project Award, the MIT Morris J. Levin Memorial Master's Thesis Award, the MIT George M. Sprowls Doctoral Dissertation Award, the National Science Foundation CAREER Award, the Stanford Tau Beta Pi Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching, the Management Science and Engineering Department's Graduate Teaching Award, and the Lanchester Prize. He was the plenary speaker at the 2019 Allerton Conference on Communications, Control, and Computing. He has held visiting positions as the Wolfgang and Helga Gaul Visiting Professor at the University of Karlsruhe, the Chin Sophonpanich Foundation Professor and the InTouch Professor at Chulalongkorn University, a Visiting Professor at the National University of Singapore, and a Visiting Professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. -
Barbara Van Schewick

BioBarbara van Schewick is a professor of law, and by courtesy, electrical engineering at Stanford Law School. She is also the Director of Stanford Law School’s Center for Internet and Society.
Van Schewick is a leading expert on net neutrality. Her book Internet Architecture and Innovation (MIT Press 2010, Paperback 2012) is considered to be the seminal work on the science, economics, and policy of network neutrality.
Her research has influenced net neutrality debates in the United States, Canada, Latin America, Asia, and Europe, and has been cited by academics, stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and other public entities worldwide. The Federal Communications Commission’s 2010, 2015, and 2024 Open Internet Orders relied heavily on her work. She served as the lead technical advisor for California’s 2018 landmark net neutrality law that restored all of the protections the FCC abolished in 2017, and testified at every hearing on the bill. She wrote amicus briefs on novel questions of federal preemption of state broadband laws in cases challenging state broadband laws, including California’s net neutrality law that was upheld three times by federal courts.
Her work also shaped the European Union's 2015 and 2020 guidelines implementing the European Union's net neutrality law, the E.U.’s 2022 update that banned harmful zero-rating, and the 2016 and 2017 Orders on zero-rating by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India and the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission, respectively.
Van Schewick has testified before the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC), the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC), and the California Legislature, and has advised policy makers, legislators, and regulators in the U.S., Latin America, and Europe. She has submitted White Papers, ex parte letters and comments to network-neutrality-related proceedings in the U.S., Canada, India, and Europe, and was instrumental in FCC efforts to stop Comcast’s blocking of BitTorrent and Verizon’s blocking of tethering applications.
Her work has been discussed by leading print and online publications around the world, including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Politico, The Economist, BBC News, The Times of India, Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Die Zeit, BoingBoing, Wired, and Ars Technica, and has been featured on radio and television in the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Australia.
Van Schewick received the Scientific Award 2005 from the German Foundation for Law and Computer Science and the Award in Memory of Dieter Meurer 2006 from the German Association for the Use of Information Technology in Law (“EDV-Gerichtstag”) for her doctoral work. In 2010, she received the Research Prize Technical Communication 2010 from the Alcatel-Lucent Stiftung for Communications Research for her “pioneering work in the area of Internet architecture, innovation and regulation.”
Van Schewick holds a PhD in Computer Science, an MSc in Computer Science, and a BSc in Computer Science, all summa cum laude from Technical University Berlin, the Second State Exam in Law (equivalent of Bar Exam), summa cum laude, from the Higher Regional Court Berlin, and the First State Exam in Law (equivalent of J.D.), summa cum laude, from Free University Berlin.
