Current Research and Scholarly InterestsI am a Ph.D. candidate in Aeronautics and Astronautics studying how learned robot policies can be made reliable once they leave the lab. Rather than retraining a policy to make it safer, I am interested in methods that monitor a policy as it runs, predict when it is heading toward failure, and recover before that failure occurs. My current interests include safety for locomanipulation, multi-robot collaboration, and fault recovery for learned policies.

Bachelor of Science, Human BiologyBioVictoria Cuéllar is a junior at Stanford University majoring in Human Biology with a concentration in Holistic Approaches to Health and Well-Being. She aspires to become a bilingual, culturally competent internal medicine physician who integrates science, empathy, and equity to improve care for underserved communities. Raised low-income and uninsured along the U.S.–Mexico border, Victoria brings lived insight to her commitment to holistic, patient-centered care that empowers people to feel agency and comfort in caring for their long-term well-being.
Her research spans neurodegenerative disease, gender equity in healthcare, and the intersections of neuroscience, psychology, and music, particularly how music-based interventions, including digital music medicine, can serve as culturally translatable and accessible approaches to mental health. Beyond research, she serves as a Patient Health Navigator and Preclinical Volunteer at Stanford’s Cardinal Free Clinics and as a STEMentor for introductory chemistry, roles through which she supports underrepresented groups in both clinical and classroom settings. Outside of academics, Victoria plays the cello and finds her greatest joy in time spent with friends and family. -

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsPreviously, I developed a platform for joint communications and sensing (JCAS) with mmWave beamforming systems as part of the UCLA Wireless Lab under Professor Ian Roberts. Then, as a DSP engineer intern at Anduril, I worked to enhance detectors for frequency-hopping OFDM and chirp-spread-spectrum signals. From these experiences, I found a strong interest in optimization methods and statistical inference techniques for signal processing systems, mainly wireless communications and radar.

Ph.D. Minor, Computer ScienceBioMateus Gheorghe de Castro Ribeiro is a PhD candidate in the Stanford Sustainable Systems Lab. He has worked on various topics at the intersection of engineering applications and artificial intelligence (AI). His main area of research focuses on AI applied to sustainable energy systems, specifically using data-driven methods to accelerate the electrification of bus fleets, ensure reliable operations with minimal costs, and achieve 24/7 carbon-free operations. Mateus obtained his bachelor's and master's degrees in mechanical engineering from the Federal University of Juiz de Fora and the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, respectively. In 2022, he was awarded the CAPES/Fulbright Scholarship to pursue his PhD in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Stanford University.

BioCassandra (Casey) Mendoza Decosto (she/they) is a proud first-generation Filipina American from Los Angeles, California. A Pasadena City College alumna who transferred to CSU-Los Angeles, she previously studied singlet-oxygen photochemistry with Prof. Matthias Selke. Now, as a Chemistry Ph.D. candidate in Prof. Laura Dassama’s lab, she leverages bioinformatic and biochemical approaches to discover novel proteins that drive metabolite trafficking, membrane remodeling, and antibiotic evasion in bacterial pathogens such as Treponema pallidum. As a CBI ChEM-H and EDGE fellow, Casey works to increase educational and research access on and off campus through programs like Stanford’s Community College Outreach Program (CCOP).
