Lama El Halabi

BioI am a PhD candidate in the Department of Energy Sciences and Engineering and a Data Science Scholar, advised by Adam Brandt. My research is driven by the crucial role renewable energy must play in sustainably meeting our energy demands. The major challenge in transitioning to renewable energy lies in the intermittent and inherently uncertain nature of these energy sources. My current research focuses on predicting energy outputs from these stochastically behaving sources, with an emphasis on uncertainty quantification and volatility. Specifically, I employ computer vision models and statistical techniques to develop short-term probabilistic photovoltaic (PV) power forecasts from sky images and time-series PV data. I hold an MS in Energy Resources Engineering from Stanford and a BE in Mechanical Engineering and a BS in Physics from the American University of Beirut. Previously, my research involved using machine learning to model water resources.

Ahmad Elhaija

BioAhmad Elhaija is an MD candidate at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine and an MBA candidate at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. He graduated with honors from UCLA with a BS in Psychobiology.
As an undergraduate, Ahmad founded the International Healthcare Organization (IHO), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that develops innovative safety-net healthcare systems and expands access to care in under-resourced communities. He continues to lead IHO and founded Wellness Capital, the organization’s nonprofit investment fund supporting healthcare innovation and social impact.
Ahmad’s work focuses on designing, evaluating, and scaling solutions to healthcare access challenges, particularly those involving health literacy, care navigation, and structural barriers. His experience spans digital health, health informatics, health technology development, and data analytics, with an emphasis on translating evidence into practical care-delivery models. His research examines care delivery and health outcomes among populations facing barriers to care, with published work in mental health, preventive care, medical education, health disparities, and digital health.
As a board advisor to the California Telehealth Resource Center, Ahmad has contributed to statewide efforts to strengthen digital care strategy and telehealth access. His broader interests include public policy, foreign policy, and economic development. -
Emily Ellefson

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsI am a palynologist, that is, I study fossilized pollen and spores! Previously I have worked on Permian-Triassic and Jurassic-Cretaceous palynology, but here at Stanford I'm excited to be exploring a new time interval and will be working on Silurian-Devonian palynology. My research will focus on how the evolution of terrestrial plants affected the marine redox record through palynology, paleobotany, and geochemistry.

Jess Fairlie
Ph.D. Student in Civil and Environmental Engineering, admitted Winter 2026
BioJess Fairlie is a PhD student in the Baker lab, studying cross-shore sediment transport under infragravity waves. Jess completed her BS in Environmental Systems Engineering in 2024, and her MS in Environmental Engineering in 2025, both at Stanford University. Beyond her academic passion for waves, Jess loves everything related to the ocean, from surfing to tidepooling to SCUBA diving. In her free time she can be found enjoying the waves, rock climbing, and knitting.

Haoquan Fang
Ph.D. Student in Computer Science, admitted Autumn 2026
BioHaoquan is a CS PhD student at Stanford University, advised by Prof Fei-Fei Li as part of the Stanford Vision and Learning Lab. Currently, he is also a research intern at NVIDIA Cosmos Lab, working with VP Ming-Yu Liu and Dr Haotian Zhang.
Previously, he has spent time at Ai2 PRIOR and Ai2 Robotics. He obtained his BS degree from the University of Washington, where he double majored in computer science (with honors) and statistics, and minored in mathematics. He was advised by Prof Ranjay Krishna, Prof Ali Farhadi, Prof Dieter Fox, and Prof Jenq-Neng Hwang. He was also mentored by and collaborated with Prof Jiafei Duan and Dr Ying Jin.
His research interests lie broadly in robot learning. In particular, he focuses on developing foundation models for robotic manipulation that are deployable in the real world and unlock novel capabilities. -
Ke 'Kay' Fang

BioI am a PhD student in the Cognitive Science Area of the Department of Psychology. My research focuses on computational approaches to understanding how distributed individual minds give rise to emergent collective phenomena, including cooperation, norms, and polarization. Before Stanford, I got my master’s degree at New York University, where I worked on topics in social psychology. Prior to that, I received my bachelor’s degree in Management from Lanzhou University in China.

Safari Fang
Ph.D. Student in Environment and Resources, admitted Autumn 2020
BioSafari Fang is a Ph.D. candidate in the Emmett Interdisciplinary Program in Environment and Resources (E-IPER). She is an interdisciplinary scientist and ocean conservation leader with proven experience and passion for connecting people from diverse backgrounds to facilitate deep, meaningful collaborations aimed at solving environmental challenges. Growing up next to a polluted Yangtze River in China, Safari aspired from an early age to work in environmental conservation, and she connects deeply with communities that live the real consequences of pollution and habitat destruction. Her current research focuses on aquaculture and fisheries, food security, and community-based marine conservation. Through her research and action, Safari is engaging diverse stakeholders in the global seafood system and fostering collaborations among sectors for the sustainable use of ocean resources.
Safari is an alumna of the Blue Pioneers Program, a leadership development program for ocean conservationists from Asia. She sits on the board of directors of Demos Education Hub, an environmental education and community development NGO in Hainan, China. Safari has lived and worked in several countries, including China, the U.S., Iceland, Germany, and France. She speaks fluent Chinese and English and enjoys reading, swimming, kayaking, hiking, whale watching, yoga, meditation, and creative writing.
