Marina Del Cassio

BioMarina Del Cassio is a Ph.D. student in the Stanford Department of History and holds a J.D. from Harvard Law School. She is currently working on a legal and cultural history of wildfire and land burning in long-nineteenth-century California. Her interests more broadly lie in American legal history, indigenous history, environmental history, and history of capitalism. Before coming to Stanford, she represented tribes and municipalities in environmental law matters and clerked at the Ninth Circuit and the California Supreme Court.

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsMy research aims to understand digital behaviors and their relationship with well-being through computational models and in-situ behavior change interventions. For my research, I have been working on a large-scale smartphone dataset, Screenome. I work closely with Nick Haber and Roy Pea from the School of Education and Nilam Ram and Byron Reeves from the Communication Department.
In my work, I mostly use machine learning and human-centered design principles. -

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsMy research interests center around the epidemiology, environmental determinants, and health services dimensions of heart disease, with an emphasis on vulnerable populations, both international and domestic. Current projects include the development of novel care quality metrics for use in rheumatic heart disease in East Africa, testing of low sodium salt substitutes in South Asia, and describing the cardiovascular impacts of cyclical climate change-associated major environmental events.
