Georgios E. Hilaris

BioGeorgios "George" Hilaris MD is a Gynecologic Oncology and Minimally-invasive Gynecologic Surgery Specialist.
He received his residency training at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, in Los Angeles California and RUSH University Medical Center of RUSH Medical College in Chicago, Illinois. He completed his fellowship training at Stanford University in Palo Alto California.
In his home country Greece, he is considered an innovator in Gynecologic Oncology and Laparoscopic/Robotic Gynecologic Surgery.
Some of his pioneering work include the first in Greece laparoscopic radical hysterectomy with systematic pelvic and paraaortic lymph node dissection in 2004 as well as first Robotic-assisted surgical staging for endometrial cancer in 2009.
In 2018 he also led the team that described the first in Greece, Robotic-assisted interval cytoreduction for advanced stage ovarian cancer.
He has also published the first series of Laparoscopic staging of early stage cervical and endometrial cancers in Greece in 2008.
He is Adjunct Faculty at Stanford University School of Medicine, since 2007.
Since February 2018, he serves as the Director and Head of the 2nd Department of Gynecologic Oncology in Hygeia Hospital, the largest private medical center, in Athens Greece -
Paula Hillard
Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology (General Gynecology), Emerita
BioPaula J. Adams Hillard, M.D., is Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Stanford University School of Medicine where she serves as Associate Chair for Medical Student Education. She earned a B.S. in Zoology from the University of North Carolina and obtained her M.D. from Stanford University School of Medicine. She completed a residency in OB/Gyn at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She was on the faculty at the University of Virginia, and served as Professor in the Departments of OB/Gyn and Pediatrics at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital (CCHMC) /University of Cincinnati Medical Center for 23 years. At CCHMC she was the founder of a postgraduate fellowship training program in Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology. She currently directs the program in Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology at the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford.
She has been active on a number of national medical committees, including chair of the American College Obstetricians and Gynecologists' (ACOG) Committees on Patient Education, Adolescent Health, and Guidelines for Women’s Health; she is a past member of the Gynecologic Practice Committee, the Gynecology Document Review Committee, and the Ethics Committee. She was been an examiner for the American Board of Obstetricians and Gynecologists from 1991-2015. She is a Board Member of the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics, and was elected a fellow of the American Gynecological and Obstetrical Society. She is a past president of the North American Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology, and is an active contributor to the literature in adolescent gynecology and contraception with over 200 journal articles and abstracts published. She serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology. She is the sole editor of two textbooks: the 5-Minute Consult in Obstetrics and Gynecology (2008) and Practical Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology (2013). She is the author of over 120 book chapters on women’s health. She has been a consultant and a member of tasks forces and committees for the CDC, the U.S. FDA, the NICHD, the AMA, American Cancer Society, and ACOG. In addition to her work as a member of editorial boards and as an ad hoc reviewer for professional publications, Dr. Hillard has extensive experience with the consumer press. She was a contributing editor to Parents magazine from 1982-1990, writing a monthly column on pregnancy and birth--and currently acts as an editorial consultant to women’s publications such as Good Housekeeping, Family Circle, Woman’s Day, Cosmopolitan, Redbook, Glamour, YM, and Seventeen, as well as ABC News. She is a consultant to and a member of the medical advisory board of Clue, a menstrual cycle tracking app. She has been recognized for her teaching, and has been selected as one of 18 senior faculty master teachers/mentors for medical students at the Stanford University School of Medicine in a formal mentoring program called Educators for CARE: Compassion, Advocacy, Responsibility, and Empathy. -

BioLeila Hozhabrzadeh is a physician assistant who received her joint MSPAS/MPH degree from Touro University California. She has always had an interest in Women's Health and received extensive OB/GYN training through both her general and elective clinical rotations. Her public health field study included participating in research for a longitudinal study on Cervical, Anal, and Oral HPV Prevalence and Risk Factors Among Adolescents at Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center in Manhattan, NY. Prior to PA school, she worked as a medical assistant and scribe in Obstetrics and Gynecology for Dr. Thaïs Aliabadi at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. She practices evidence-based and patient-centered medicine to improve health and wellness. She is also Safe Zone trained and dedicated to providing compassionate care that ensures patient dignity. In addition, she is fluent in Farsi and intermediate in Spanish.

BioDr. Huang received his pre-medicine and medical degrees from McGill University. He completed his obstetrics and gynecology residency training at McGill University Health Center. Dr. Huang also completed his Ph.D. degree in Experimental Medicine from McGill University during his residency training. Dr. Huang subsequently completed his reproductive endocrinology & infertility fellowship training at the Center for Reproductive Medicine and Infertility at Weill Cornell Medical College/New York Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Huang is board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in both Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. Dr. Huang is the editor of the book “Development of In-Vitro Maturation of Human Oocytes”. Dr. Huang has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and published in leading scientific journals. Dr. Huang has also authored a large number of book chapters. Additionally, he has presented his research projects at numerous leading international medical conferences in the U.S., Europe and Asia. Irogue I Igbinosa
Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology (Maternal Fetal Medicine & Obstretrics)
BioIrogue Igbinosa, MD, MS, is a Maternal-Fetal Medicine physician at Stanford University. Her research focus includes iron deficiency anemia in pregnancy, severe maternal morbidity and mortality, and health equity. She was also a former NIH Women's Reproductive Health Scholar (K12) and is currently a Physician Implementation Science Scholar with AMETHIST (Achieving Maternal Empowerment and Transforming Health through Implementation Science and Training ) at University of Pennsylvania (Penn). Recently, she was also recognized as the Duan Family Faculty Scholar in Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
She graduated from the University of Houston and earned her medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine. She subsequently completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency at Louisiana State University School of Medicine Baton Rouge. After residency, she was an AAMC-CDC Public Health Policy Fellow able to serve in the CDC Emergency Operations Center and contribute to research for healthcare providers regarding the management of the Zika virus in pregnant persons. She completed her Maternal Fetal Medicine fellowship at Stanford in 2022.
Dr. Igbinosa is passionate about community-engaged approaches to bridge gaps in evidence-based care for birthing communities and collaborates with local and national policy committees to raise awareness for reproductive justice in maternal health. Her current research endeavors include co-investigator for Stanford's PHRISM: preventing inequities in hemorrhage related severe maternal morbidity, primary investigator for NOURISH - prenatal nutrition education for community health workers and doulas, as well as several hospital quality initiative efforts to improve the screening, management, and treatment of iron deficiency anemia in pregnancy. BioDr. Anjali Jotwani is an obstetrician and gynecologist at Stanford Health Care and a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Division of Gynecology & Gynecologic Specialties at Stanford University School of Medicine.
Dr. Jotwani offers comprehensive obstetric and gynecologic care for patients at every stage of life, from adolescence to menopause. She specializes in obstetric care, preventive care, the perimenopause transition and menopause, and sexual health. Dr. Jotwani’s approach is rooted in trauma‑informed care and reproductive justice. Amer Karam

BioDr. Amer Karam is a board-certified, fellowship-trained gynecologic surgeon and clinical professor in the Stanford Medicine Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Division of Gynecology Oncology. He specializes in gynecologic oncology, hospice and palliative care, hereditary gynecologic cancers, laparoscopic and robotic gynecologic surgery, and obstetrics and gynecology.
Dr. Karam attended medical school at the American University in Beirut. He completed his internship and residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, before completing a fellowship in gynecologic oncology at the University of California Los Angeles and a fellowship in breast surgery at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Karam has a vested interest in minimally invasive and robotic surgery with a practice centered on this approach for the treatment of patients with gynecologic malignancy and complicated pelvic surgery. He is currently director of Robotic Surgery and Outreach in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology. -

Magdalena Ladrón de Guevara
Postdoctoral Scholar, Reproductive Biology
BioMagdalena Ladrón de Guevara is a postdoctoral scholar in reproductive biology whose research investigates the molecular and cellular mechanisms driving early human embryo implantation and trophoblast behavior. Her work integrates single-cell and spatial transcriptomics, live imaging, CRISPR-based functional genomics, and genome editing to explore embryo–maternal interactions within the implantation niche.
Originally trained as a veterinarian in Argentina, Magdalena earned a master’s in Animal Genetics and Reproductive Biotechnology in Spain and completed her Ph.D. in Reproductive and Developmental Biology at the Università degli Studi di Milano as part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie EUROVA network. Her experience spans both veterinary and human assisted reproduction, with deep expertise in embryo culture, oocyte maturation, gene regulation, genome editing, and the generation of genetically engineered mouse models. She brings a translational perspective to developmental biology and fertility research. -

BioStephanie Leonard, PhD, MS, is an Assistant Professor in the Dunlevie Maternal-Fetal Medicine Center for Discovery, Innovation, and Clinical Impact (https://dunleviemfm.stanford.edu/) and holds a courtesy appointment in Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine.
The goal of Dr. Leonard’s research is to advance equitable, positive health experiences and outcomes for pregnant individuals and newborns. She is interested in applying transdisciplinary methods to perinatal health research, with a focus on studying pregnancy-related morbidities in large data sources. Currently, her primary research interests are in building an infrastructure for distributed data network studies of perinatal health and improving treatment of chronic hypertension in pregnancy. To this end, she co-launched the OHDSI Pregnancy and Reproductive Health Work Group (https://www.ohdsi.org/workgroups/) and collaborates closely with the Harvard Program on Perinatal and Pediatric Pharmacoepidemiology (http://www.harvardpreg.org/). She also serves as a collaborator and mentor on a variety of obstetrics studies, including clinical trials, prospective and retrospective observational studies, and qualitative studies. Dr. Leonard's research program is currently funded by NHLBI (K01) and NICHD (U54).
Dr. Leonard trained in epidemiology at UCLA (MS) and UC Berkeley (PhD), where her research focused on nutrition in pregnancy and was completed in partnership with the WIC program and the Nutrition Policy Institute. She completed a postdoc in Neonatal and Developmental Medicine at Stanford as part of the Stanford Center for Population Health Sciences. -

Babak Litkouhi

BioDr. Litkouhi joined the Stanford Women's Cancer Center in 2019. He was previously faculty at Yale and Harvard universities, and co-chief of gynecologic oncology at John Theurer Cancer Center in NJ. His expertise is in gynecologic cancer surgery and chemotherapeutic management of gynecologic cancers, including HIPEC. He has expertise in open, laparoscopic, and robotic radical surgery. He is the director of the gynecologic oncology fellowship program at Stanford. He has been the recipient of numerous patient-care and teaching awards, and is an active researcher and clinical trialist.

BioDr. McClung is a fellowship trained, board certified Gynecologic Oncologist with the Stanford Medicine Cancer Center and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Stanford Medicine Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Division of Gynecologic Oncology.
She graduated from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City and she completed residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Stanford Medicine. She then pursued sub-specialty Gynecologic Oncology fellowship at Moffitt Cancer Center and the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida.
Prior to joining Stanford Health Care, Dr. McClung was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Arizona Banner University Medical Center in Tucson, Arizona.
Dr. McClung actively contributes to gynecologic cancer research. She has studied prevention of surgical site infections, gene expression prediction of lymph node metastasis in endometrial cancer, treatment resistance in ovarian cancer, and additional topics. She co-authored articles on her findings for peer-reviewed publications such as the International Journal of Gynecologic Cancer, International Journal of Women’s Health, and Gynecologic Oncology Reports.
She authored the chapter on the diagnosis and management of vaginal cancer in the textbook Handbook of Gynecology and has made invited presentations at meetings of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology and other associations. She works to improve patient access to state-of-the-art care as an investigator in cooperative group clinical trials.
She has won multiple teaching awards for her work with medical students and residents. She is passionate about increasing awareness of gynecologic cancer in medical trainees.
Dr. McClung provides comprehensive care with a personalized approach for patients with gynecologic cancer and pre-cancer including surgery, chemotherapy, cancer risk reduction, and palliative care. She has a strong clinical interest in patient safety and quality of life both during and after cancer treatment. -

BioColleen Moreno holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice in Certified Nurse Midwifery. She developed, launched and continues to grow Stanford's Faculty Nurse Midwifery Service with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Colleen also has developed, launched and continues to grow Stanford's CenteringPregnancy program. Her interests include providing Nurse Midwifery care to Stanford's community and families through traditional 1:1 prenatal care as well as group prenatal care. Colleen has a strong passion for interprofessional education. She is actively involved with the Obstetric and Gynecology resident education and training program, Stanford's Physician Assistant reproductive health didactic and women's health clerkship curriculum, as well as a preceptor for multiple Nurse Midwifery clinical programs across the nation.

Liesl Nel-Themaat, PhD, HCLD, MBA

BioDr. Nel-Themaat has been in the field of assisted reproduction for more than 20 years, with the past 11 years in clinical IVF. She possesses a unique combination of a strong academic background, broad technical experience and extensive leadership, and management training. Through a multi-dimensional approach, she has helped to improve patient care and outcomes in Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART).
Dr. Nel-Themaat was most recently employed as the Regional IVF Lab Director for Shady Grove Fertility in Colorado and served as the IVF Lab Director at University of Colorado Advanced Reproductive Medicine. She received her PhD from LSU, Baton Rouge and recently completed an Executive Masters of Business Administration program at the University of Denver.
Her goal is to advance the field “by building strong, high performing lab teams, by carefully evaluating and adapting appropriately to industry trends, by training and educating the current and next generations, and by participating in collaborative research that enhances our understanding of reproduction.”
In her free time, Dr. Nel-Themaat loves to spend time with her husband and two children, preferably in nature. With them, she enjoys skiing, hiking, biking, swimming and anything nature has to offer. She likes to cook out and introduce our American friends to South African cuisine, especially a “braai,” which is their version of a BBQ. During school holidays, she likes to visit family in South Africa, go on safari and enjoy the beautiful beaches. Dr. Nel-Themaat enjoys jamming on the piano, guitar, drums and microphone with her family. She also considers herself very competitive and loves playing and watching sports or playing board games. -

BioJuno Obedin-Maliver, MD, MPH, MAS, FACOG (she/her) is an Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Stanford University School of Medicine.
Dr. Juno Obedin-Maliver is a board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist who provides excellent clinical care, while advancing scientific knowledge through her research, and supporting personal and professional development as a physician coach.
She practices full-spectrum gynecology including outpatient, in-patient, operative, and emergency care services. This specifically includes collaborative management of cervical dysplasia and abnormal pap smears, abnormal uterine bleeding, contraception and family planning, pelvic pain, abnormal discharge, sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment, and more. She specializes in the gynecological and reproductive health care needs of sexual and gender minority people which include but are not limited to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning (LGBTQ+) people. This interest and experience drives her research interests towards promoting the health and well-being and equity of LGBTQ people.
Dr. Obedin-Maliver, is the Co-Director of The PRIDE Study (pridestudy.org), a multi-site online prospective longitudinal cohort of sexual and gender minority individuals based at Stanford. She also serves on the medical advisory board of the University of California San Francisco Center of Excellence for Transgender Health and is helping to author the next version of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) Standards of Care. Dr. Obedin-Maliver has also been active in health policy, including involvement in helping to legally redefine consideration of sexually intimate partner status and to remove the Medicare Non-Coverage Determination ruling on gender -affirming surgeries.
Additionally, Dr. Obedin-Maliver continues her long-standing commitment to growth, healing, and empowerment as a Master Certified Physician Development Coach (Physician Coaching Institute, ICF Level I). In her coaching, Dr. Obedin-Maliver uses personal and professional development tools, mindfulness, and somatic frameworks to enhance health, agency, and creativity in partnering with individuals to help them achieve their professional goals and design their personal lives. She rejoices in partnering with diverse healthcare providers to use her broad skills to supercharge their authentic learning and growth, especially in times of challenge and resistance.

Danielle Mari Panelli

She completed Ob/Gyn residency training at Harvard (Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Mass General Hospital), and both fellowship training in Maternal–Fetal Medicine and a Masters Degree in Epidemiology and Clinical Research at Stanford.
Dr. Panelli is a clinician–scientist whose work bridges clinical and translational research to understand how stress and mental health shape pregnancy outcomes and postpartum recovery. Her research program focuses on psychobiologic markers of stress—including telomere dynamics and epigenetic aging—to advance precision medicine approaches for perinatal mental illness and pregnancy complications.
Clinically, she cares for routine and high-risk obstetric patients and integrates trauma-informed, evidence-based approaches into care delivery. She is committed to mentorship and education, serves as Director of Research for the Maternal–Fetal Medicine Fellowship, and contributes to national leadership and scholarship in perinatal mental health. -

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsDr. Polan's research has centered around ovarian function during both the follicular and luteal phases. Studies of steroidogenesis, LH receptor synthesis, and the involvement of the plasminogen activator system in ovarian events have been performed.
