Warren Hausman
Professor of Management Science and Engineering, Emeritus
BioProfessor Hausman performs research in operations planning and control, with specific interests in supply chain management. Most of his contributions are based upon quantitative modeling techniques and emphasize relevance and real world applicability.
He has recently studied how RFID technology can revolutionize the management of supply chains. He has investigated the value of RFID applications in retail environments, in logistics, and in manufacturing and assembly operations. He has also studied how Supply Flexibility in retail supply chains affects a company's financial performance and market capitalization.
He is an active consultant to industry and is involved in numerous executive education programs both at Stanford and around the world. He was the founding director of a two-day executive program on Integrated Supply Chain Management held semi-annually in Palo Alto, California from 1994 to 2003. His consulting clients represent the following industries: general manufacturing, electronics, computers, consumer products, food & beverage, transportation, healthcare, and high technology. He is also a co-founder of Supply Chain Online, which provides web-based corporate supply chain management training. He serves on the technical advisory boards of several Silicon Valley startups. He has also served as an Expert Witness for litigation involving operations management
In 1994 he was elected President of the Operations Research Society of America (ORSA). He has also served on the Board of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) and on several National Science Foundation Advisory Panels and Committees. He is a Fellow of INFORMS, a Distinguished Fellow of the Manufacturing and Service Operations Management Society, and a Fellow of the Production & Operations Management Society. He has also won several teaching awards, including the Eugene Grant Teaching Award in Stanford's School of Engineering in 1998.
He earned a BA in Economics from Yale and a PhD from MIT's Sloan School of Management. -
John Lyon Havlik
Postdoctoral Medical Fellow, Psychiatry
Resident in Psychiatry and Behavioral SciencesBioHello! I'm the inaugural Humanities and Social Medicine research track resident at Stanford University.
Psychiatric and substance use disorders are usually caught only after substantial, sometimes irreparable, harm has already occurred. My work is about changing that: I build artificial intelligence models that identify people earlier, and I evaluate whether the systems that receive them, like health plans, treatment facilities, and now generative AI chatbots, are equipped to respond appropriately. I believe this kind of early intervention will one day be commonplace and prevent a great deal of human suffering.
On the building side, I'm technical lead and first author on a supervised model that detects substance use disorders from EHR-like data, published in Nature Mental Health; related work uses multimodal data to flag who will go on to develop opioid use disorder and to predict imminent psychiatric emergency-department visits. I also co-authored a Nature Medicine paper on how to rigorously test the true capabilities of medical AI. I work across a wide range of deterministic and probabilistic methods, including the transformer architectures behind modern "chatbots." My work has been featured in 40+ peer-reviewed publications and featured in national news outlets.
In production, spinout AI-enabled clinical workflow automation software I developed is in use at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and here at Stanford. The aim of my work is to move advances in artificial intelligence out of publications and into the clinic.
On the evaluating side, I serve as an expert reviewer of AI-in-medicine trials for the State of Utah's Office of Artificial Intelligence Policy, and I am a sought-after health-tech advisor for Silicon Valley's leading venture capital firms and companies. I write on psychiatric services and health policy, recently in JAMA Health Forum on private-equity residential treatment and JAMA Network Open on the economics of telemedicine "house calls". Alongside my research, I founded and lead Research Roundtable, a mentorship group whose undergraduates have published 10+ first-author papers. Before medicine, with Peggy Mason at UChicago, I found the human bystander effect in rats (Science Advances). -
Kristina Elizabeth Hawk
Clinical Assistant Professor, Radiology - Rad/Nuclear Medicine
BioKristina Elizabeth Hawk, MS MD PhD is a Nuclear Medicine Physician and Neuroradiologist. As a physician scientist, integrated MD/PhD training helped build a foundation to explore translational research efforts, using a full and intricate understanding of the research process, and the developed ability to understand, discuss and teach new emerging concepts. Dr. Hawk’s dissertation in Neuroscience focused on the regulation of Nitric Oxide Synthase in the dorsal and ventral striatum, exploring the neurochemical role of nitric oxide producing interneurons, and their ability to coordinate dopaminergic and glutamatergic signaling in areas of the brain relevant to cognition and motivated behavior.
Eager to expand her passion into the field of Medical Radiation Physics, she also completed a separate Masters degree in Medical Radiation Physics. This provided her with in depth training of how therapeutic and diagnostic instruments use both ionizing and non-ionizing radiation in the clinical setting. She then completed her Medical Doctorate and Diagnostic Radiology Residency at the University of Southern California (USC), learning the art of medicine while serving the diverse population at Los Angeles County Hospital.
Dr. Hawk completed clinical fellowship requirements in Nuclear Medicine at USC, and is now Board Certified by the American Board of Nuclear Medicine. She also completed a Neuroradiology fellowship at USC, and is Board Certified the American Board of Radiology. She served as both the Chief Resident and Chief Neuroradiology Fellow.
Dr. Hawk has held multiple local and national leadership positions, including positions in the American College of Radiology (ACR), the American College of Nuclear Medicine (ACNM) and the Society of Nuclear and Molecular Medicine (SNMMI). Dr. Hawk is an editorial board member of the Journal of the American College of Radiology (JACR). She has served as the Vice-Chair for Education for the Nuclear Medicine Resident Organization of the ACNM, and the Educational Liaison for the Resident and Fellow Section of the ACR. Currently, she serves on the national ACR Commission for Women and General Diversity as well as the ACR Commission on Nuclear Medicine. Dr. Hawk also sits on the ACR Council Steering Committee.
Dr. Hawk is committed to continually exploring the beautiful applications of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation to image and treat the human body.
