Elizabeth Wig
Ph.D. Student in Electrical Engineering, admitted Autumn 2020
BioHi, I’m Elizabeth Wig! I’m a PhD student in electrical engineering at Stanford, and I research how we can use radar remote sensing to understand more about processes on Earth. I work mainly on InSAR (interferometric synthetic aperture radar), which looks at how radar phase changes from one image to another to tell us how Earth is changing. I’m particularly interested in measuring how vegetation and soil moisture change in dynamic environments, like agricultural areas and permafrost regions. My favorite types of problems involve modeling how electromagnetic waves interact with their environment, and then combining those models with real-world data to learn more about the environment by analyzing the waves that pass through it.

Jeffrey P. Wilde
Affiliate, Electrical Engineering - Solid State Photonics Laboratory
BioJeffrey P. Wilde received a Ph.D. degree in Applied Physics from Stanford University, with thesis work in the area of holographic data storage. In 1996, he co-founded Quinta Corporation to develop high-capacity optical disk drive technology; the company was acquired by Seagate Technology in 1997, and he subsequently served as the Director of Research West for Seagate. In 2000 he co-founded Capella Photonics, a manufacturer of wavelength switching products for the telecommunications industry. Capella was acquired by Alcatel-Lucent in 2013.
Since 2005 he has provided optical design consulting services to numerous companies, as well as serving as a Research Consultant with Ginzton Laboratory at Stanford University, where he has participated in research on advanced fiber communication technologies, optical superresolution imaging, and helped establish a program on X-ray phase-contrast imaging for security applications. He has also served as an adjunct lecturer for EE236A (Modern Optics) and EE347 (Optical Methods in Engineering Science, aka Lens Design). Dr. Wilde has 31 journal publications, 39 issued US patents, and is a Senior Member of OSA. -

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsKindle is a postdoctoral researcher in Prof. William Tarpeh's group. She studies nutrient recovery from wastewaters, with a particular focus on electrochemical techniques for the conversion and recovery of inorganic nitrogen species. She is interested in translating technologies for nutrient recovery to practice.

Terry Winograd
Professor of Computer Science, Emeritus
BioProfessor Winograd's focus is on human-computer interaction design and the design of technologies for development. He directs the teaching programs and HCI research in the Stanford Human-Computer Interaction Group, which recently celebrated it's 20th anniversary. He is also a founding faculty member of the Hasso Plattner Institute of Design at Stanford (the "d.school") and on the faculty of the Center on Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law (CDDRL)
Winograd was a founding member and past president of Computer Professionals for Social Responsibility. He is on a number of journal editorial boards, including Human Computer Interaction, ACM Transactions on Computer Human Interaction, and Informatica. He has advised a number of companies started by his students, including Google. In 2011 he received the ACM SIGCHI Lifetime Research Award. -
Keith Winstein

BioKeith Winstein is an associate professor of computer science and, by courtesy, of electrical engineering at Stanford University. His research group creates new kinds of networked systems by rethinking abstractions around communication, compression, and computing. Some of his group’s research has found broader use, including the Mosh tool, the Puffer video-streaming site, the Lepton compression tool, the Mahimahi network emulators, and the gg lambda-computing framework. He has received the SIGCOMM Rising Star Award, the Sloan Research Fellowship, the NSF CAREER Award, the Usenix NSDI Community Award (2020, 2017), the Usenix ATC Best Paper Award, the Applied Networking Research Prize, the SIGCOMM Doctoral Dissertation Award, and a Sprowls award for best doctoral thesis in computer science at MIT. Winstein previously served as a staff reporter at The Wall Street Journal and worked at Ksplice, a startup company (now part of Oracle) where he was the vice president of product management and business development and also cleaned the bathroom. He did his undergraduate and graduate work at MIT.

Rahel Woldeyes
Basic Life Research Scientist
BioThe goal of my current research is to use high-resolution imaging techniques to interrogate outstanding questions in cardiac cell biology, with a focus on the signaling pathways that trigger heart muscle contraction. I currently use cryo-electron tomography-based imaging approaches to connect the molecular and cellular scales of biology and accelerate our understanding of human health and disease.

BioH.-S. Philip Wong is the Willard R. and Inez Kerr Bell Professor in the School of Engineering at Stanford University. He joined Stanford University as Professor of Electrical Engineering in 2004. From 1988 to 2004, he was with the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center. From 2018 to 2020, he was on leave from Stanford and was the Vice President of Corporate Research at TSMC, the largest semiconductor foundry in the world, and since 2020 remains the Chief Scientist of TSMC in a consulting, advisory role.
He is a Fellow of the IEEE and received the IEEE Andrew S. Grove Award, the IEEE Technical Field Award to honor individuals for outstanding contributions to solid-state devices and technology, as well as the IEEE Electron Devices Society J.J. Ebers Award, the society’s highest honor to recognize outstanding technical contributions to the field of electron devices that have made a lasting impact.
He is the founding Faculty Co-Director of the Stanford SystemX Alliance – an industrial affiliate program focused on building systems and the faculty director of the Stanford Nanofabrication Facility – a shared facility for device fabrication on the Stanford campus that serves academic, industrial, and governmental researchers across the U.S. and around the globe, sponsored in part by the National Science Foundation. He is the Principal Investigator of the Microelectronics Commons California-Pacific-Northwest AI Hardware Hub, a consortium of over 40 companies and academic institutions funded by the CHIPS Act. He is a member of the US Department of Commerce Industrial Advisory Committee on microelectronics.
