Stefan Oliver Bassler

BioStefan is a Bridging Excellence Postdoctoral Fellow in the Petrov lab at Stanford University and in the Aulehla & Steinmetz labs at EMBL (2025-now). He is fascinated by how evolution can be used to probe the genomic plasticity of biological systems. During his PhD with Nassos Typas at EMBL supported by the Joachim Herz Add-on Fellowship, he mapped the Genomic landscape of resistance evolution by performing high-throughput resistance evolution of the genome-wide KO library in E. coli. He discovered that evolvability genes constrain resistance evolution through gene-gene and gene-gene-drug interactions. In his postdoctoral work, he will Assess the inter-kingdom conservation of lifespan variants evolved in yeast.

Luca Bellodi
Postdoctoral Scholar, Political Science
BioLuca Bellodi is a research fellow at the Hoover Institution and a postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Political Science at Stanford University. His current research focuses on American political institutions, specifically the interaction between politics, bureaucracy, and populism, and its consequences for the quality of government.
In Bellodi’s primary line of research, he studies politicians’ incentives to control the behavior of bureaucratic agencies, lawmakers’ reliance on bureaucratic expertise, and the role of bureaucracy in shaping the political agenda. He introduces innovative measurement strategies that combine natural language processing techniques and machine learning to address novel questions in the study of oversight, rulemaking, and the use of information in the policymaking process.
In a related line of research, Bellodi investigates why politicians adopt populist behaviors and examines the consequences of populism for government performance and the quality of bureaucracy.
Luca Bellodi holds a PhD in political science from University College London. Before joining Stanford, he was a postdoctoral research fellow at Bocconi University in Milan. -

BioClaire Augusta Bergey researches how people understand each other's communicative intent and how children expand the types of meaning they can convey and interpret over development. She uses naturalistic observation, corpus analysis, computational modeling, and controlled lab experiments to examine adults' and children's communicative abilities.

Yvonne Boesch

BioYvonne received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from ETH Zurich and obtained her PhD in Biology, specializing in fungal denitrification, from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in Uppsala under the guidance of Prof. Sara Hallin.
In January 2025, she joined the Peay Lab as a postdoctoral scholar, supported by the Swedish Wallenberg postdoctoral scholarship program.
Yvonne is fascinated by the intricate interactions among microbes and their relationships with higher organisms, such as plants. Her research focuses on exploring how these complex relationships impact plant health, forest productivity, and resilience in the face of changing environments. -

Yunwei Chen

BioYunwei Chen is a Postdoctoral Scholar at Stanford University, affiliated with the Stanford Center on China's Economy and Institutions at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies. She is also a Postdoctoral Fellow with the Stanford Impact Labs and a Global Health Postdoctoral Affiliate with the Stanford Center for Innovation in Global Health.
Her academic training is in global health economics. Prior to joining Stanford, she earned a PhD in Health Policy and Management (Economics Track) from the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2024.
Her research explores innovative solutions for effective delivery of public health interventions in resource-limited settings through rigorous experimental and quasi-experimental designs. Her current research agenda is centered on integrating digital health technologies to develop comprehensive and tailored interventions for children and mothers living in resource-limited settings during crucial developmental stages, aiming for both effectiveness and scalability. -
Jennifer Chien

BioJennifer Chien earned a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California, San Diego, and a bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Wellesley College. They were a recipient of the Graduate Fellowship for STEM Diversity. Jennifer is an interdisciplinary researcher focused on preserving user agency across AI/ML pipelines by linking technical decisions with their social consequences. Their work connects technical decisions with social and societal consequences to characterize, measure, and mitigate disparities in autonomy and support safer, more responsible AI. This includes exploring instrumental, cognitive and affective, and epistemic forms of agency. At UCSD, they served as President of Graduate Women in Computing, leading mentorship, outreach, and community-building initiatives and received the Doctoral Awards for Contributions to Diversity and to Service and Leadership, as well as the Xilinx Women in Technology University Grant. Jennifer is currently an Embedded Ethics Fellow in partnership with HAI and the Computer Science department.

Ani Chiti

BioI am a Brinson Prize Fellow at Stanford University, primarily interested in the formation of the first stars and galaxies, the formation of heavy elements, the early Milky Way, and local dynamical tracers of dark matter. I observe and characterize nearby stars and galaxies that formed at early times to understand these topics, in an approach known as "Near-field cosmology" or "Galactic archaeology".
Before joining Stanford, I was the inaugural Brinson Prize Fellow in Observational Astrophysics at the University of Chicago. I obtained a PhD in Physics from MIT in 2021, and received bachelor's degrees in Physics and Mathematics from Cornell University in 2014. -
Suchetha Cooray

BioSuchetha Cooray is a KIPAC Postdoctoral Fellow at Stanford University. His research operates at the intersection of observational data, galaxy formation physics, cosmological theory, and artificial intelligence.
Suchetha is broadly interested in decoding the "cosmic ecosystems" that drive galaxy growth and evolution. His work seeks to reveal the complete lifecycle of galaxies—tracing their origins from density peaks of dark matter, through the complex interaction of their baryonic components, to their eventual cessation of star formation. Galaxy formation presents a profound computational challenge, as physical processes span at least 14 orders of magnitude, from the sub-parsec scales of black hole accretion disks to the vast web of cosmic large-scale structure.
To navigate this complexity, Suchetha employs numerical simulations and machine learning to build statistically robust models of the Universe, connecting the first galaxies revealed by JWST to the mature populations of the present day. As the field enters a transformative decade for precision cosmology, his research focuses on maximizing the scientific insights from upcoming major surveys—including PFS, Euclid, Rubin LSST, SPHEREx, and Roman.
Previously, Suchetha was a JSPS Postdoctoral Fellow at the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan and earned his doctorate at Nagoya University. -

I'm interested in understanding better how different kinds of epithelial cells, like the cells that line your gut and the cells that make up your skin, are able to correctly connect to one another and form fully continuous organs.

Onja Davidson Raoelison

BioOnja Davidson Raoelison is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the King Center on Global Development. Prior to joining Stanford, she earned her PhD in Environmental Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles. She holds a joint MSc in Civil and Environmental Engineering from UCLA and in Civil Engineering from ESTP Paris, France.
Her overarching research focuses on the connection between wildfires, the environment, and human health, aiming to develop sustainable engineering solutions to mitigate the negative impacts of wildfires on water quality. Specifically, her research agenda at the Stanford Department of Medicine aims to understand how wildfires increase the risk of infectious diseases through their impacts on the environment -

Roberta Leonie Claude Fischli

BioRoberta Fischli is a postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Political Science at Stanford University. Her research focuses on the social and political impact of artificial intelligence (AI), with a particular focus on how novel AI systems can promote personal freedom and democracy.
Roberta was previously a Visiting Faculty Researcher at Google, where she worked on AI agents and value alignment. Previous research appointments include the University of California Berkeley, Georgetown University, and the University of St. Gallen. She is a research affiliate at the Machine Intelligence and Normative Theory (MINT) Lab at Australian National University, led by Seth Lazar.
Roberta holds a PhD (summa cum laude) in International Affairs and Political Economy from the University of St. Gallen. Her dissertation monograph "Freedom after Algorithms" investigates the changing role of freedom in the digital age. Her research has appeared in Perspectives on Politics, the European Journal of Political Theory, and History of Political Thought, among others. Roberta also works as a freelance journalist. -
Philipp Frank

BioPhilipp Frank is an Astronomy and Machine Learning researcher who is developing and applying statistical and ai methods to help deepen our understanding of the structure of the Milky Way and the Cosmos. He did his PhD and a followup Postdoc in Germany at Ludwig Maximilians University and the Max-Planck-Institute for Astrophysics where he worked on probabilistic ML and numerical inference methods and contributed to applications ranging from radio interferometry, X- and gamma-ray imaging, Cosmic Ray air-shower reconstructions, and 3d maps of the dust and gas content of our local Galactic neighborhood.
As a KIPAC Fellow at Stanford he aims to push 3D mapping of the interstellar medium to unprecedented scales in both size and resolution, and incorporate multiple additional tracers for a more comprehensive picture of local structures. This aims to shed light on the mechanisms of star formation and galaxy dynamics across scales only accessible through our unique vantage point within the Galaxy.
