Ankita Patil

BioAnkita Patil is a public health researcher focused on advancing health equity through a social justice–centered framework. She holds a B.A. in Social Psychology from The College of New Jersey and an M.S. in Community Health and Prevention Research from Stanford University. Her research experience includes work at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Johns Hopkins University, where she examined the health impacts of incarceration, trauma-informed care, and reproductive health among incarcerated populations. Ankita is a co-author of an American Public Health Association policy statement calling for an end to shackling incarcerated patients and has peer-reviewed work on COVID-19 in Massachusetts prisons. Her work bridges research, policy, and community-based advocacy to advance humane public health solutions.

Staff, Med/Residency and Educational ProgramsBioTeja Patil completed her MD and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco and an MPH in Epidemiology at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She has been a hospital medicine attending since 2015 and serves at the Director of Nocturnists and Director of Surgical Comanagement at VA Palo Alto.
Her professional interests include medical education, night medicine and physician wellness. She coteaches the Resiliency Curriculum Series for the internal medicine residency program and is a certified Physician Coach.

Selvi R. Paulraj, PhD
Clinical Assistant Professor (Affiliated), Adult Neurology
BioDr. Selvi R. Paulraj is a fellowship-trained neuropsychologist at Stanford Health Care. She is also a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Neurology and Neurological Sciences at Stanford University School of Medicine.
Dr. Paulraj specializes in assessing a variety of neurological conditions, including Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, stroke, and Parkinson’s disease. She also conducts presurgical neuropsychological evaluations for deep brain stimulation in Parkinson’s disease and surgical interventions for epilepsy.
Dr. Paulraj’s research focuses on mindfulness-based stress reduction techniques to improve aging and stroke recovery. She also explores emotional and psychosocial factors that impact health in patients with multiple sclerosis and dementia, along with patient caregivers.
Dr. Paulraj has been published in several peer-reviewed journals, including Clinical Gerontologist, Journal of Neurolinguistics, and Frontiers in Psychology. She has also presented to peers at regional, national, and international meetings, including annual meetings of the American Psychological Association (APA), National Academy for Neuropsychology, and American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology (AACN). -
Jeffrey Peng, MD

BioDr. Peng is a board-certified specialist in sports medicine and family medicine. He provides care for athletes of all ages and enjoys helping everyday patients achieve and sustain a healthy, active lifestyle. His expertise includes orthobiologics, such as platelet-rich plasma, and ultrasound-guided minimally invasive techniques to treat osteoarthritis, tendinopathies, and other musculoskeletal conditions.
Outside of work, Dr. Peng enjoys reading, exercising, cooking, spending time with his wife, and creating fun mischief with his daughter and son. He is also fluent in Mandarin. -

Eric Peterson

BioI am a researcher with 10 years of experience in magnetic resonance imaging, which includes project management, data analysis, digital signal and image processing, image reconstruction, and pulse sequence design. I currently manage the day-to-day operations of a small animal MRI facility and work to ensure reliable data are collected for both human and animal imaging. I also work on MRI pulse sequence development, reconstruction, and analysis to better understand the sources and effects of alcohol addiction. I have also worked on clinical stroke imaging in CT and MRI, as well as techniques for high resolution 3D Diffusion-weighted MRI of the brain to better visualize white matter tracts in order to better detect the subtle changes associated with degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease. I earned my PhD with a variety of work including cancer metabolism using hyperpolarized 13C, and data analysis of the effects of asthma on the lungs. My interests are research, technology, and healthcare.

Senior Research Scientist, Adult NeurologyCurrent Research and Scholarly InterestsThe Petritsch lab broadly investigates underlying causes for the intra-tumoral heterogeneity and immune suppression in brain tumors from a neuro-developmental perspective. Defective cell fate decisions fuel the intra-humoral heterogeneity and plasticity in human brain tumors and may contribute to immune suppression. We use patient-derived models as avatars to study how brain cells control the fate of their progeny, whereby we unravel novel points of vulnerabilities in brain tumor cells.

BioAfter completing his residency training in neurosurgery and a fellowship in Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery at UCLA, Dr. Pezeshkian joined the faculty at Kaiser Permanente Neurosurgery & Neuroscience department at Redwood City, California.
Dr. Pezeshkians’ areas of expertise and neurosurgical focus are Deep Brain Stimulation surgery for movement and neuropsychiatric disorders, adult epilepsy surgery,, neuromodulation procedures for chronic refractory craniofacial pain syndromes and peripheral nerve surgeries for tumors and trauma.
Dr. Pezeshkian is the Regional Director of the Functional Neurosurgery Program at the Northern California Kaiser Permanente healthcare system. -

Lisa Pineda
Senior Simulations Specialist, Pediatrics - Neonatology
BioLisa received a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Athletic Training from San Jose State University, a Master of Science in Perinatal Clinical Nurse Specialist/Neonatal Emphasis from the University of California San Francisco, and a Post-Graduate Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate from San Francisco State University.
Lisa started her nursing career at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital in the Labor and Delivery Unit. It became clear early in her career that research-driven high-quality patient-centered care was integral to her learning and passion for nursing. As a staff nurse, she participated in multiple obstetric simulations at CAPE, and she was immediately drawn to the systematic approach, clear communication, and debriefing process within the simulation methodology. For more than two decades, Lisa’s work has included bedside nursing, advanced practice nursing for women and children, and public health nursing with a particular passion for research dedicated to improving patient outcomes. -

Danielle Polevoi

BioDanielle Polevoi is a recently board certified physician assistant who graduated from Stanford University School of Medicine’s Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies program with a concentration in Medical Education. During PA school, she was selected as one of fifteen students nationwide to participate in The PAEA’s Future Educator Fellowship program. She was also chosen by Stanford MSPA faculty as one of three students in the Class of 2022 to represent our program in the AAPA Virtual Challenge Bowl in 2021.
Prior to getting her master's degree, Danielle attended UCLA where she received a B.S. in Biology. In order to gain patient care experience for PA school, she worked as an Emergency Department Scribe at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center and as a medical assistant in a gynecologic surgery group.
Danielle was born and raised in San Francisco. She is eager to begin her career at SHC in the Medical ICU taking care of critically ill patients.
