Meng Chen, MD
Clinical Assistant Professor, Medicine - Pulmonary, Allergy & Critical Care Medicine
BioDr. Chen is a double board-certified, fellowship-trained specialist in allergy and immunology and internal medicine. She is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine.
With training in pediatric and adult allergy/immunology, Dr. Chen provides expertise in chronic urticaria, angioedema, drug allergy, severe asthma, food allergy and allergic rhinitis. She excels at addressing the impact of allergies on quality of life and productivity. Driven by a desire to help people and deliver exceptional care, Dr. Chen takes great pride in the effectiveness and efficiency of her services, her attention to detail, and the excellent patient satisfaction scores she earns. She has trained and worked in a broad range of clinical care settings, including private practice, the Veterans Administration, major health systems, and academic medical centers, like Stanford Health Care.
Dr. Chen has extensive research experience, from study start-up to manuscript preparation. Dr. Chen has authored numerous scholarly publications on topics including urticaria, angioedema and food allergies. She has presented the findings of her research to the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology Annual Scientific Meeting and other conferences. Her work has appeared in the journals Pediatric Allergy; the Annals of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology; JAMA; as well as book chapters on immunology. Dr. Chen has received honors and awards for her scholarship. She is a member of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology; the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology; and, the Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology Foundation of Northern California.
Dr. Chen’s academic passion is medical education and fostering the growth of medical trainees. She is particularly interested in harnessing the power of coaching to promote self-efficacy and wellness in medicine. She serves as the Well-Being Director for the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine and also as a Faculty Coach in the School of Medicine’s Student Guidance Program. -

Paul Cheng MD PhD
Assistant Professor of Medicine (Cardiovascular Medicine)
BioDr. Cheng is a Cardiologist at Stanford University School of Medicine in the Department of Medicine and a member of the Cardiovascular Research Institute. Dr. Cheng received his BEng in Chemical Engineering and BSc in biology at MIT. He subsequently completed his MD/PhD at UCSF working in the Srivastava lab studying how extracellular morphogenic signals affect cardiac development and fate determination of cardiac progenitors. Dr. Cheng completed internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at Stanford, including a post-doctoral training in the Quertermous lab. His current clinical focus is in amyloidosis and cardio-oncology.
Dr. Cheng pioneered the application of single cell transcriptomic and epigenetic techniques to study human vascular diseases including atherosclerosis and aneurysm, and applied these techniques to investigate molecular mechanisms behind genetic risk factors for several human vascular diseases including atherosclerosis, and aortopathies such as Marfan's and Loey-Dietz syndrome. The Cheng lab takes a patient-to-bench-to-bedside approach to science. The lab focuses on elucidating new pathogenic mechanisms of human vascular diseases through combing human genetics and primary vascular disease tissues, with high-resolution transcriptomic and epigenetic profiling to generate novel hypothesis that are then tested in a variety of in vitro and in vivo models. The lab is focused on two broad questions: (1) understanding the biological underpinning of the differences in diseases propensities of different arterial segments in an individual (i.e. why do you have atherosclerosis and aneurysms in certain segments but not others), and (2) understanding the role of perivascular fibroblast in human vascular diseases.

Xingxing Shelley Cheng

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsDr. Xingxing Cheng's expertise is in applying the tools of decision science to clinical practice and policy analysis. Her current research is in the following areas:
1) the costs, effectiveness, and implementation of work-up before kidney transplantation, including pretransplant cardiovascular screening;
2) ethics of and decision-making in in multi-organ transplantation. -
Annie Bertha Chao

Staff, Medicine - Primary Care and Population HealthBioDr. Annie Chern grew up in Wichita, Kansas, and remains a Midwestern girl at heart. After attending Washington University in St. Louis for her undergraduate degree, she received her M.D. from Stanford University School of Medicine. She has a special interest in helping patients of all ages with weight management, obesity prevention, and chronic disease care.
Dr. Chern has volunteered her time as a physician at Arbor and Pacific Free Clinics, the two Stanford-associated free clinics that provide basic healthcare for underserved patients. In her leisure time, she enjoys running in all forms - most of all - chasing after her fleet-footed twin toddlers! -

Ramsey Cheung

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsDr. Cheung's research interests focus on liver diseases, with emphasis on viral hepatitis. His past research include investigating the mechanism of viral neutralization of hepatitis B virus at the molecular level and immune response to hepatitis C virus. Dr. Cheung is studing various aspects of hepatitis C, both clinical and translational research.

Michelle Chiu, MD

BioMichelle Chiu graduated medical school from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and completed internal medicine residency at Stanford University. She is currently a clinical assistant professor in the Division of Hospital Medicine at Stanford Hospital. Outside her clinical work, Dr. Chiu is involved in medical education at the graduate and post-graduate level. She teaches IM Bedside Clinical Reasoning and Physical Diagnosis Rounds, an elective for second-year PA and medical students that focuses on the bridging the gap between classroom physiology and bedside pathology. Additionally, she is involved in APP post-graduate education with current projects in hospital medicine onboarding, CME, and scholarship.

Mildred Cho, PhD

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsDr. Cho's major areas of interest include: ethical and social issues in genetic research, including those arising from gene therapy and editing, synthetic biology, microbiome research, the use of artificial intelligence to analyze genomic and medical data, the effects of gene patenting on clinical genetic testing and research, and the impacts of academic-industry ties on biomedical research.

Curtis R. Chong, MD, PhD, MPhil, FACP
Clinical Assistant Professor, Medicine - Oncology
BioDr. Chong was recruited to Stanford from the Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK) Cancer Center, where he led MSK's launch of the early drug development and immunotherapy clinical trials program in New Jersey. At MSK, Dr. Chong was a member of the gastrointestinal oncology service and was one of two MSK physicians in New Jersey who specialized in treating melanoma. Prior to joining MSK, Dr. Chong was a member of the thoracic oncology service at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and an attending physician at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital, all ailiates of Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Chong completed his categorical residency in internal medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School, his oncology fellowship at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and is board-certified in internal medicine and medical oncology. He has received research support from the American Society of Clinical Oncology (Young Investigator Award), Uniting Against Lung Cancer, and the American Cancer Society. Dr. Chong has been published in the New England Journal of Medicine, Nature, Nature Medicine, Nature Chemical Biology, JAMA Oncology, and his research on drug discovery has been featured in the New York Times and Popular Science.
Born and raised in Honolulu where he attended public schools, Dr. Chong sang in the Honolulu Boy Choir, and was the 1993 Honolulu Star Bulletin Newspaper Boy of the Year. He received his A.B. in biochemical sciences from Harvard University magna cum laude followed by an M.Phil. in Chemistry with Sir Alan Fersht at the University of Cambridge (Emmanuel College). He then received his MD and PhD in pharmacology from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
An intrepid traveler and avid long-distance runner, Dr. Chong has visited 54 countries and completed 126 marathons in all 50 states, 18 countries, and 6 on continents. -
Ilias Chrissochoidis

BioIlias Chrissochoidis is a scholar, author, composer and pianist. He received his Ph.D. in Music from Stanford University where he has been teaching since 1997 (as Lecturer since 2005). A Geballe Dissertation Prize Fellow at Stanford's Humanities Center (2001-2), he was appointed a 2010 Fellow of the American Council of Learned Societies, and, in 2010-11, Kluge Fellow at the Library of Congress. In 2009, he became the first musicologist to be hired at an Economics department (University College London) and in 2015 he joined the Berlin Social Science Center. As a Research Associate at the Center for Economic Learning and Social Evolution, he engaged in innovative research on game theory applications in Wagner’s operas. A leading expert on Handel, he also has championed Greek composer Nicolas Astrinidis and introduced Spyros P. Skouras in American and film historiography, editing his memoirs. Chrissochoidis has received over 30 grants and fellowships from world-renowened universities and research centers, professional societies, private foundations, and the Greek state. He has authored more than 50 research articles and essays, which can be found in leading musicological journals. In recognition of his musicological activity, the Academy of Athens awarded him a special commendation in 2005. As an author, Chrissochoidis has written six non-academic books in Greek and has published dozens of articles on educational, social, and political issues in the Stanford Daily, the Chronicle of Higher Education, and in the Greek newspapers Ta Nea, Kathimerini, Sunday Vima, and Vima Ideon. Composing music since his teens, he has written extensively for the piano and has released four albums of instrumental music. His listening-oriented course "A practical introduction to music theory and harmony" has been offered through Stanford Continuing Studies since 2005.

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsMy research focuses on understanding how extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling in liver fibrosis, particularly in the context of aging, diabetes, and metabolic-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), disrupts tissue mechanical homeostasis and drives hepatocellular carcinoma pathogenesis. The goal is to translate these mechanobiological insights into novel therapies targeting mechanotransduction to prevent or reverse fibrosis and improve patient outcomes with liver cancer and other desmoplastic tumors

Alvina Dor-Yan Chu

BioAlvina Chu, MD, is an adjunct clinical faculty member within the Division of Immunology and Rheumatology. She has practiced rheumatology for more than 10 years, specializing in treatment of a wide range of chronic inflammatory conditions including rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, vasculitis, and gout.
She holds a longstanding scientific interest in immunology, especially the role of B-cell signaling mechanisms in lupus and other autoimmune diseases.
In addition to taking care of patients in clinic and in the hospital, Dr. Chu enjoys teaching and mentoring fellows, residents, and medical students. -
Gilbert Chu

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsAfter shuttering the wet lab, we have focused on: a point-of-care device to measure blood ammonia and prevent brain damage; a human protein complex that juxtaposes and joins DNA ends for repair and V(D)J recombination; and strategies for teaching students and for reducing selection bias in educational programs.

Weihan Chu

BioAlex Weihan Chu, M.D. serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Stanford School of Medicine and is the Associate Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Quality, Health Equity, and Clinical Affairs at Stanford Health Care Tri-Valley.
Dr. Chu has been a dedicated member of SHC Tri-Valley since 2015, joining as a Hospital Medicine physician after completing his residency at Stanford Hospital. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Clinical Informatics. Since 2016, he has served as the Medical Informatics Director, a role he continues to oversee, ensuring that technology enhances clinical workflows and patient care.
Dr. Chu has held multiple leadership roles, including serving on the Medical Executive Committee and as Vice Chief of Medicine. He previously served as Associate Chief Medical Officer for Patient Safety, Infection Control & Accreditation, Regulatory & Licensing, where he played a key role in supporting Joint Commission surveys, ensuring CDPH compliance, and leading hospital safety initiatives to address regulatory findings.
In 2024, Dr. Chu transitioned to his current role, the Associate Chief Medical Officer and Vice President for Quality, Health Equity, and Clinical Affairs where he is responsible for coordinating a comprehensive system of quality monitoring and improvement to achieve excellent patient care. He works closely with Kathleen Carrothers, Senior Director of Quality Management and Performance Improvement, to oversee clinical outcomes, data management, and performance improvement initiatives. He also leads health equity efforts and manages physician agreements, ensuring sustained high-quality care and strategic physician engagement.
Dr. Chu brings expertise in physician engagement, clinical oversight, clinical informatics, and quality improvement. His experience in driving multi-disciplinary change and advancing health equity to aligns with the hospital’s mission and vision.
Outside of work, Dr. Chu enjoys hiking, scuba diving, photography, and exploring the latest advancements in technology.
