Michael S Binkley, MD, MS
Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology (Radiation Therapy)
BioDr. Binkley is a radiation oncologist specializing in lymphoma treatment and an assistant professor in the Stanford University School of Medicine Department of Radiation Oncology.
His clinical expertise includes stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR), total lymphoid and total body irradiation, and intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT).
For each patient, Dr. Binkley develops a personalized, comprehensive, and compassionate care plan. His goals are to improve both health and quality of life.
Dr. Binkley has conducted extensive research to advance cancer treatment. In his post-doctoral fellowship at Stanford, he studied the use of genomic signatures to predict response to radiotherapy. His current clinical and laboratory research seek to identify prognostic and predictive clinical, radiographic, and genomic factors to inform individualized treatment strategies.
He has co-authored articles on his research discoveries published in Journal of Clinical Oncology, Cancer Discovery, Blood, the International Journal of Radiation Oncology*Biology*Physics, and elsewhere. Topics have included innovations in the treatment of lymphoma and lung cancer.
He also has made invited presentations to colleagues at national and international conferences. He has presented the latest findings on radiation therapy for lung cancer and lymphoma at meetings of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO), and International Conference on Malignant Lymphoma (ICML).
Honors for Dr. Binkley include the Malcolm A. Bagshaw Award for leadership and outstanding scientific achievement. This award is named for a pioneer in radiation therapy and former chair of the Departments of Radiology and Radiation Oncology at Stanford University School of Medicine.
Dr. Binkley is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society for Radiation Oncology, and American Association for Cancer Research. He is a founding member of the Global nLPHL One Working (GLOW) Working Group, an international collaboration studying nodular lymphocyte-predominant Hodgkin lymphoma (NLPHL) in children and adults. -
Brandon Birckhead MD
Clinical Assistant Professor, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences
BioDr. Brandon Birckhead is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. He works in the Stanford University's Virtual Reality and Immersive Technology Clinic and Stanford Anxiety and Depression Adult Psychological Treatment (ADAPT) clinic.
He was valedictorian for his graduating class of biological sciences at University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Followed by his medical degree at Mayo Clinic Medical School in Rochester Minnesota. He then received a master degree in healthcare delivery science at Cedars-Sinai. During this time he helped develop a set of recommendations for VR therapy clinical trials. He also helped design and implement some of the first remote CBT skills based VR therapy clinical trials for chronic pain. He was also the co-director of virtual medicine conference from 2019-2020. He then completed his psychiatry residency at Johns Hopkins. During his residency he was a consultant to Apple, providing guidance on the Apple Vision Pro. He then spent some time on the Apple Health team as a clinical project manager.
Clinically Dr. Birckhead offers a comprehensive approach to care, integrating evidence-based therapies such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). When appropriate he also provides medication management. He is interested in working with adults with anxiety disorders, PTSD, mood disorders, and OCD. He is committed to a collaborative, personalized treatment process—working closely with each individual to understand their unique challenges and develop a tailored plan to support their mental health and well-being. -

Julius Bishop, MD
Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery
Current Research and Scholarly InterestsDr. Bishop specializes in treating fractures of the upper extremity, lower extremity, pelvis and acetabulum as well as the management of post-traumatic problems including malunion, nonunion and infection.
He received his undergraduate and medical school degrees from Harvard University and went on to complete the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program. He pursued his subspecialty training in Orthopaedic Traumatology at the world-renowned Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Washington.
His research interests include applying decision analysis models to orthopaedic trauma problems, studying clinical outcomes after musculoskeletal injury, orthopaedic biomechanics, the basic science of fracture healing, and evaluating new strategies and techniques in fracture surgery. -
Mahamaya Biswal
Postdoctoral Scholar, Molecular and Cellular Physiology
BioMahamaya is a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Physiology at Stanford University, where she specializes in Cellular and structural biology with a focus on membrane protein biogenesis, quality control, and the development of innovative nanobody technologies. Her research integrates advanced cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), cell biology, and nanobody engineering to unravel the mechanisms governing the assembly and maturation of membrane protein biogenesis factor hubs with a focus on Voltage gated ion channels as a model substrate.
Dr. Biswal’s scientific journey began with an integrated M.Tech in Biotechnology degree from D.Y. Patil University, India, where she conducted foundational research on bacterial persister cell formation at BARC and characterized breast cancer proteins ZBRK1 and BRCA1 at ACTREC,. After spending a brief time in biotech industry at Yashraj Biotechnology Ltd., Mumbai, optimizing purification pipelines for cancer antigens used in diagnostic kits and facilitating technology transfer from R&D to manufacturing, she moved to US to join UC Riverside’s PhD program under Department of Biochemistry and supervision of Dr. Jikui Song. She made significant advances in understanding the structural dynamics of SARS-CoV-2 proteins. Notably, she solved the X-ray crystal structure of the NSP7-8 complex, a key cofactor for the viral replicase, and also elucidated the interaction between the viral nucleocapsid protein and human G3BP1. Her doctoral and postdoctoral work has also contributed to studies on viral immune evasion, including the structural basis for STAT2 antagonization by DENV2 NS5.
At Stanford, Dr. Biswal has expanded her expertise to the structural and functional study of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and currently focusing on gaining mechanistic insights on Membrane protein biogenesis factor hubs by combining cell biology and structural biology expertise. She is also developing nanobody libraries targeting synaptic vesicles and bacterial death effectors for in situ tomography and potential therapeutic applications respectively. Dr. Biswal is a committed mentor, having supervised graduate and undergraduate students, and is dedicated to fostering diversity and inclusion in science through active involvement in organizations such as AWIS, BioAIMS, and BSS (India). Her scientific contributions have been recognized with honors including the HEERF Dissertation Year Fellowship, the Mary K. and Randolph T. Wedding Prize, and best poster awards at UC Riverside. Dr. Biswal’s long-term vision is to lead a research program that translates structural insights into therapeutic strategies for neurological and infectious diseases, advancing both scientific knowledge and the next generation of scientists. -

Kameron C. Black

Fellow in Peds/Clinical InformaticsBioDr. Kameron Black is an ABIM board-certified, first-generation Latino physician-scientist and clinical informatics fellow with a commitment to the safe deployment of agentic artificial intelligence in real-world healthcare systems. He completed his internal medicine residency at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) and is currently in a fellowship program in clinical informatics at Stanford University, expected to graduate in 2026. His work has been covered by Forbes, Anthropic (“The Briefing: Healthcare and Life Sciences” virtual event) and the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered AI (HAI).

Alexandria Blacker

BioAlexandria Blacker, PhD, MPH is the Director of the Stanford Department of Medicine’s Community Partnership Program and adjunct fauclty in the Milken School of Public Health at George Washington University. As a public health professional, Dr. Blacker has worked in breast cancer behavioral research, primary care redesign, community health, health care worker well-being, and program implementation.
In her current role, she focuses on building bi-directional, equitable, and sustainable partnerships to advance local health equity. Dr. Blacker’s research focuses on understanding processes to developing sustainable community-academic partnerships and exploring the complexity of interprofessional health care teams including teaming behaviors and contextual influences.
Dr. Blacker has had the pleasure of working with Stanford in both the health care and University settings. As a Stanford Health Care employee, Dr. Blacker worked for the Stanford Coordinated Care clinic and managed the disease management program for employees and staff. She also worked closely with her colleagues to assist in the change management efforts for the Primary Care 2.0 redesign implementation by developing educational curriculum and go-live execution with physicians, clinic managers, and team members.
As a University employee, Dr. Blacker previously worked as part of the HealthySteps to Wellness team as the Wellness Manager for Stanford Health Care. In this role, she worked cross-functionally with department heads to design and manage wellness-based trainings. She has developed curricula in positive psychology, stress management, and behavior change. She has conducted over 100 trainings and conducted programmatic evaluations to streamlining processes to increase overall effectiveness. -
Andreas Blaha

BioOriginally from a tiny village in Northern Germany, Andreas moved to the city for his bachelor’s from the University of Hamburg. After graduating with a master’s in biochemistry from the University of Tübingen in Southwestern Germany, Andreas moved abroad for his PhD to Vienna, Austria. At the Research Institute of Molecular Pathology (IMP), he discovered a complex on the sperm surface that connects to the egg membrane. Having studied the function of intricate membrane protein complexes, Andreas made the journey overseas to join the Pleiner lab and investigate how the cell manages and coordinates their production. In his free time, Andreas enjoys hiking in summer and skiing in winter.

BioDr. Blair is a licensed clinical psychologist and is board certified in behavioral sleep medicine. Her clinical and research expertise are in behavioral medicine with specializations in sleep and sexual health. She has made numerous presentations, developed workshops, written chapters and published articles in the area of sleep and sexual medicine. Dr. Blair is a Stanford sleep consultant and is on the adjunct faculty at The Stanford Center for Sleep Sciences and Medicine. She is also the Clinical Director of The Clinic.
Dr. Blair completed her postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford University Medical School and her pre-doctoral internship at the VA Greater Los Angeles Health Care System. Dr. Blair received her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the PGSP-Stanford Psy.D. Consortium. She received a bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley. Her research on nuclear reprogramming and demonstrating the plasticity of cell fate using cell fusion is well known and her laboratory has also pioneered the design of biomaterials to mimic the in vivo microenvironment and direct stem cell fate. Nathaniel Aidan Blecher
Clinical Assistant Professor, Ophthalmology
BioDr. Nathaniel Blecher is a board-certified, fellowship-trained ophthalmologist who specializes in glaucoma care at Stanford Health Care. He is also a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at Stanford University School of Medicine.
His clinical interests include innovative surgical treatments for glaucoma—including minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS)—as well as the connection between lifestyle and ocular health. Dr. Blecher provides comprehensive care for the full spectrum of glaucoma, both early-stage and particularly advanced disease.
His individualized approach includes laser therapy, medical management, MIGS procedures, and more complex interventions such as tube shunt placement and trabeculectomy. He also treats coexisting conditions like cataracts, ensuring patients receive coordinated, whole-eye care.
Dr. Blecher’s research interests include treatments for pseudophakic angle closure, which is a rare situation when high pressure inside the eye suddenly develops despite cataract surgery. He has also studied the finer details of correctly detecting glaucoma progression based on optical coherence tomography (OCT) analysis, considering the changes that can be seen from comorbid conditions such as hypertension and diabetes.
Dr. Blecher’s research has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals, including Ophthalmology, Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, and Ophthalmology Case Reports. He has presented internationally on topics such as MIGS and complex glaucoma management.
He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Glaucoma Society. -

Catherine Blish

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsThe major goal of our research is to gain insight into the prevention and control of HIV and other viral pathogens by studying the interplay between the virus and the host immune response. We investigate the role of various arms of the immune response, but with a particular focus on NK cells. We hope to gain additional insights into control of infectious diseases by studying how pregnancy modulates immune responses.

Daniel Bloch

BioI received my PhD. in Mathematical Statistics in 1967. I joined the research community at the Stanford University School of Medicine, Division of Immunology & Rheumatology, in 1984 as head statistician directing the biostatistics consulting and analytic support of the Arthritis Rheumatism Aging Medical Information System (ARAMIS) and Multipurpose Arthritis Center (MAC) grant-related research programs. In 1993 I was appointed Associate Professor with a joint appointment in the Departments of Medicine and of Health Research & Policy, and am currently Professor of Biostatistics at Stanford University, emeritus since 2007. My contributions to the statistics literature span numerous fields, including methods of sample size estimation, efficiency and bias of estimators, research methods for kappa statistics, non-parametric classification methods and methods of assessing multi-parameter endpoints. I have over 200 peer-reviewed publications. I have been directly involved with the development of numerous criteria rules for classification of diseases and with establishing guidelines for clinical trial research and in proposing responder criteria for osteoarthritis drugs. Since 1987, I have been a consultant on an ad hoc basis to pharmaceutical and biotechnical firms, including both start-up and established companies. I have extensive experience with devices, drugs and biologics and have participated in all aspects of applying statistics to implement investigational plans; e.g.: for protocol development, design of trials, database design. I’ve been a member of the FDA Statistical Advisors Panel, the statistical member on numerous data safety monitoring boards, and frequently represent companies at meetings with the FDA

Dr. Blomkalns has a long-standing history of scholarship and publication on cardiovascular emergencies, point-of-care testing, innate immunity, and obesity. She has authored or contributed to more than 14 chapters and more than 40 journal articles in peer-reviewed publications on topics influential to administration and organization, clinical best practices, and scientific exploration. Additionally, her grant portfolio diversity reflects her multi-pronged, collaborative approach, and includes institutional, investigator-initiated industry, and federal funding.

Daniel Michael Blonigen

BioDr. Blonigen is a Research Career Scientist and an Associate Director at the Center for Innovation to Implementation (Ci2i), VA Palo Alto Health Care System. He is also an Affiliate Investigator with the VA National Center for Homelessness Among Veterans, and an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Stanford University School of Medicine. He received his doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Minnesota and is a former VA Career Development Awardee. He is licensed as a clinical psychologist in the State of California.
Dr. Blonigen’s research mission is to identify and develop innovations to increase access and engagement in substance use and mental health care for vulnerable populations. In particular, he is interested in testing the effectiveness and implementation potential of mobile health and peer-based interventions for justice-involved and homeless veterans. He is currently leading or co-leading multisite trials of behavioral interventions for justice-involved and homeless veterans. He is also funded by VA Health Systems Research to tailor smartphone applications for self-management of unhealthy drinking for veteran primary care patients and use of peer specialists to increase patient engagement with these apps.
In addition to research, Dr. Blonigen is actively involved in mentoring and teaching VA research fellows and Stanford University residents. These roles include serving as a faculty mentor for the Stanford Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship Program and the Ci2i VA Palo Alto Training Program. He is a member of several VA management and oversight committees and has served as a grant reviewer for national and international funders. He is an invited speaker at national conferences and cyberseminars devoted to substance use and mental health research, and he holds editorial positions for leading addiction, personality, and assessment journals. -
Gordon Bloom

BioGordon founded the Social Entrepreneurship Collaboratory (SE Labs) at Stanford, Harvard and Princeton. He teaches about the design, development and leadership of innovative social impact ventures in global health and environmental sustainability.
At Stanford, Gordon is director of the Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation Lab (SE Lab)- Human & Planetary Health and is a faculty fellow of the Center for Innovation in Global Health. He is a Lecturer in the School of Medicine, Division of Primary Care and Population Health/Dept. of Medicine, and an advisor in the Distinguished Careers Institute (DCI), and the Knight-Hennessy Scholars Program, and cofounder of the Stanford Sustainable Societies Lab.
At Harvard, Gordon taught jointly on the faculties of the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health (Health Policy & Management) and the Harvard Kennedy School (Management, Leadership & Decision Sciences) and served as an Expert-in-Residence (EiR) at the Harvard Innovation Lab (i-Lab), and affiliated faculty at the Center for Primary Care, Harvard Medical School (HMS). He was faculty director of the Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation Lab (SE Lab) for US & Global Health, an incubator course taught in a new interdisciplinary, collaborative model based at the i-Lab. Gordon served as one of the founding faculty of the $10 million Reynolds Fellows Program in Social Entrepreneurship, a Center for Public Leadership and Harvard President’s interdisciplinary fellowship initiative that paid full tuition and stipend for graduate students from the Harvard Kennedy School, School of Public Health and Graduate School of Education.
At Princeton, Gordon served as Dean’s Visiting Professor in Entrepreneurship in 2009-2010. Working together with the School of Engineering & Applied Science, the [Woodrow Wilson] School of Public & International Affairs, and the Faculty of Arts & Sciences, he launched a new set of programs and prizes in social innovation and entrepreneurship in collaboration with students, faculty and alumni.
At Stanford in 2001-2002, Gordon created the SE Lab, a Silicon Valley and technology–influenced, interdisciplinary incubator for social impact ventures and global problem solving. Gordon taught on the Public Policy Program and Urban Studies Program faculties (School of Humanities & Sciences) and served as a faculty affiliate at the Center for Social Innovation at Stanford Graduate School of Business, and a Program Officer at Stanford’s Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies.

My primary areas of interest are in the diagnosis, medical and surgical treatment of vitreal retinal diseases. These principally include age-related macular degeneration and other diseases of the macula, and tractional syndromes, diabetic retinopathy, and complex forms of retinal detachment. I have been interested in the development of novel technology to diagnose and treat these diseases, including new forms of imaging, laser delivery systems, other microsurgical tools, and new drugs and drug delivery systems that inhibit new blood vessel growth, scarring and intraocular inflammation. I have been actively involved in translational research in the laboratory as well as technology transfer associated with that research for a variety of new therapies that have received FDA clearance and been introduced into clinical practice over the past 30 years.

Through a collaboration with Population Services International, the Stanford Program for International Reproductive Education and Services (SPIRES) provides technical direction in a program designed to improve access to and uptake of family planning, particularly Long Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) such as IUDs and implants, in 14 developing countries globally. The first year saw insertion of over 280,000 IUDs. -

BioFernando Boada is a Professor of Radiology and Associate Chair for Basic Science Translational Research at Stanford University Medical School. [1] He joined Stanford in 2021 after being Professor of Radiology, Psychiatry and Neurosurgery at New York University Medical School and the Director of the Center for Advanced Imaging Innovation and Research. [1] Prior to joining NYU in 2012, Dr. Boada directed the MR Research Center (MRRC) at the University of Pittsburgh for ten years. [1] His research efforts have been focused on the development of novel MRI techniques for addressing open neuroimaging questions in a translational setting.

BioChris has a proven record of accomplishment delivering results to pharmaceutical and scientific organizations, including 33 years of management experience at Eli Lilly and Company, within Lilly Research Laboratories (LRL), 3.5 years in a global leadership role at IQVIA, and now as Deputy Director and COO of a significant NIH/NIAID research grant at Stanford University Medical School.
Over the years, Chris has served as a leader of multiple global teams in drug development and R&D Operations, representing her organizations in multiple external settings, including scientific, academic, drug development and R&D Operations forums.
In, December 2017, Chris retired from Lilly as Sr. Director, External Sourcing, leading an enterprise-wide R&D operations group that partnered with LRL functions to assess, on-board, and govern third party organizations across the entire drug development value chain, from pre-clinical, through clinical, regulatory, safety, health outcomes, product and device development, and diagnostics. The division consolidated both corporate and external requirements to deliver high-quality, risk-based, third party governance, oversight and alliance management for the LRL Development organization.
In February 2019, Chris joined IQVIA as the Vice-President of Strategy & Operations for DSSR, and subsequently moved in the role of Vice-President, Global Regulatory Affairs.

Alexandria Boehm

BioI am interested in pathogens in the environment including their sources, fate, and transport in natural and engineered systems. I am interested in understanding of how pathogens are transmitted to humans through contact with water, feces, and contaminated surfaces. My research is focused on key problems in both developed and developing countries with the overarching goal of designing and testing novel interventions and technologies for reducing the burden of disease.
I am also interested broadly in coastal water quality where my work addresses the sources, transformation, transport, and ecology of biocolloids - specifically fecal indicator organisms, DNA, pathogens, and phytoplankton - as well as sources and fate of nitrogen. This knowledge is crucial to formulating new management policies and engineering practices that protect human and ecosystem health at the coastal margins. -

Raya Bogdanova

BioRaya Bogdanova joins the BRIDGE Lab as a Fulbright visiting student researcher from KU Leuven, where she is completing her Master of Medicine degree. With a long-standing interest in neurocognitive, developmental, and degenerative disorders, she has contributed to research in Alzheimer’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, and gestational diabetes. Her current work focuses on ADHD-related brain signatures in children with RASopathies. Passionate about student wellbeing, Raya also lead the ADHD peer support network at KU Leuven, bridging her clinical interests with community engagement. Outside the lab, she enjoys swimming, hiking, and exploring art museums in new cities.

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsOur lab uses chemical, biochemical, and cell biological methods to study protease function in human disease. Projects include:
1) Design and synthesis of novel chemical probes for serine and cysteine hydrolases.
2) Understanding the role of hydrolases in bacterial pathogenesis and the human parasites, Plasmodium falciparum and Toxoplasma gondii.
3) Defining the specific functional roles of proteases during the process of tumorogenesis.

Bryan Bohman
Clinical Professor, Medicine - Primary Care and Population Health
BioBryan Bohman is Associate Chief Medical Officer for Workforce Health and Wellness. Additional roles include Clinical Professor of Medicine and of Anesthesiology, Co-Director of the Clinical Effectiveness Leadership Training (CELT) program and Senior Advisor to the WellMD Center.
Bryan trained at Stanford in internal medicine and anesthesiology. After two decades of clinical practice in community-based anesthesiology, he served as SHC's first elected Chief of Staff from 2008-2011.
As Chief of Staff, Dr. Bohman established Stanford’s wellness committee and subsequently shepherded the founding of its WellMD Center in 2015, serving as the Center’s interim Director until 2017. The Center’s aim is to advance faculty, trainee and care team wellbeing across Stanford Medicine while also serving as an international leader of scholarship in occupational wellbeing. Bryan also led the establishment in 2014 of the CELT program, which continues to serve as a driver of clinical quality improvement across Stanford Medicine.
Dr. Bohman’s primary areas of interest include occupational wellbeing, process improvement, and the reciprocal influences between quality improvement, healthcare system performance, and the occupational wellbeing of healthcare personnel. -
Brian Boitnott

BioI am currently a Biomedical Physics PhD candidate in the Department of Radiology. In the two years prior to Stanford, I was at MIT Lincoln Laboratory, where I worked on remote sensing systems and was on the core team developing a laser-ultrasound system for medical imaging.
My interests revolve around health technology and perception. I started in neuroscience, studying attention and cognitive control, and now work on designing systems and algorithms for sensing and processing biomedical signals. My broader interests are at the intersection between emerging technology innovation, translation, and long-term innovation strategy.
