    BioDr. Yohannes W. Woldeamanuel M.D. is a translational physician scientist, currently Instructor at Department of Neurology and Neurological Sciences and Senior Fellow at the Center for Innovation in Global Health, Stanford University School of Medicine. He obtained his M.D. from Addis Abeba University Medical Faculty in 2007. Following graduation, Dr. Woldeamanuel was Head of Department of Anatomy, Histology, Embryology at Jimma University School of Medicine where he successfully instructed medical students and other health profession disciplines for a year and a half. Afterwards, he did Clinical Neurology residency training at Addis Abeba University Medical Faculty combined with Basic Science and Clinical Research Fellowships concentrating in the areas of Neuroinfectious Diseases, Neuropathic Pain, Epilepsy, and Neuroepidemiology at Karolinska Institutet - Sweden, Albert Einstein College of Medicine - USA, University of Heidelberg - Germany, and Imperial College London - UK. He completed his PostDoctoral Fellowship in Headache Medicine at the Stanford Headache Program. He is Awardee of several prestigious Fellowships, namely, the International Brain Research Organization (IBRO) John G. Nicholls 2012, International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) Scan|Design Foundation 2010, European Neurological Society (ENS) 2011, and International Headache Society (IHS) 2014. He also has vested interest and expertise in Digital Health as shown by his recent developments of clinically-validated self-management apps for neuropathy (CHANT) and migraine. He has strong track record of publishing many peer-reviewed first-authored articles in several high impact medical journals including The Lancet Oncology, Neurology, Pain, Journal of Neurology, Cephalalgia, and Journal of Neurological Sciences. He has been awarded the 2016 Emerging Leader in Global Health Innovation Award, Consortium of Universities for Global Health from Drs. Anvar and Pari Velji Family Foundation based on his leading role in the development, validation, and field-testing of a clinical instrument for the diagnosis of sensory neuropathy and neuropathic pain (Clinical HIV-Associated Neuropathy Tool or CHANT (Woldeamanuel et al., 2016)). He currently serves as the academic editor for Frontiers in Neurology, BMC Neurology, and BioMed Research International and regularly peer reviews for journals such as Neurology, JNNP, Cephalalgia, Headache. He is an invited editorial board member for the highest impact factor headache journal - The Journal of Headache & Pain. He has received the Publons Peer Review Award for 2017-18 as the Top 1% Reviewer on Publons Global Reviewers Database. He is ranked 3rd among headache and migraine experts from Stanford (see Expertscape rankings at https://expertscape.com/ex/migraine+headache/i/stanford_university). He is the first to receive NINDS/NIH award (K01) for headache research at Stanford. He is a certified Quantitative Sensory Testing investigator in accordance with the world-renowned German Research Network on Neuropathic Pain. He is an elected Member of the Juniors Special Interest Group at the International Headache Society since 2015. Dr. Woldeamanuel consults for his clinic in Addis Abeba, Advanced Clinical & Research Center, where he provides his expertise to neurological and general medical patients.

    Clinical Assistant Professor, Medicine - Primary Care and Population Health

    BioDr. Tem (Temesgen) is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Primary Care and Population Health. He obtained his medical degree at UCSF and continued his residency training at UCSF in Family and Community Medicine. He was selected as Chief Resident, where he further developed as a clinical educator and administrator, prior to joining the faculty group at Stanford. His academic interests include alternative models of care, clinical informatics, and digital health equity.

    Dr. Tem Woldeyesus practices full-spectrum family medicine, which includes care for the entire age spectrum. He is driven to provide evidence-based, high quality, culturally competent care.

    He is a native of the Bay Area. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his fiancée, playing (and watching) basketball, and exploring national parks.

    Julian Wolf MD, MS

    Postdoctoral Scholar, Ophthalmology

    BioDr. Julian Wolf M.D., M.S. is a clinician-scientist, ophthalmologist, and postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Ophthalmology, Stanford University. Dr. Wolf engages in translational research with the goal of finding new therapies for blinding eye diseases, including age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. His interests include combining cutting-edge omics technology, systems biology, and artificial intelligence to assess the mechanisms of aging and disease of the human eye that he validates in animal and in vitro models.

    Dr. Wolf graduated medical school in Germany and started his ophthalmology residency training at the University of Freiburg, where he was awarded the Henning Zügel Foundation Award for excellence in research. He identified a new therapeutic target for neovascular age-related macular degeneration and developed a web resource (https://www.eye-transcriptome.com) that allows scientists to explore his data covering gene expression profiles of human eye diseases. For his work, he was awarded the prestigious Helmholtz Research Award of the German Society of Ophthalmology.

    As a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Ophthalmology at Stanford University, Dr. Wolf developed computational methods that integrate liquid biopsy proteomics, single cell transcriptomics, and artificial intelligence to investigate aging and disease mechanisms at the cell level in living patients (Wolf et al., Cell, 2023). For his work, he was awarded the Research Award of the VitreoRetinal Surgery Foundation. Dr. Wolf graduated with a Master of Science in Translational Research and Applied Medicine from Stanford University. Together with world-class scientists, industry leaders, and successful entrepreneurs, he developed strategies how his scientific discoveries in the laboratory could one day improve his patients' lives.

    Dr. Wolf has published 38 peer-reviewed manuscripts, among them first-authorships in Cell, BBA Molecular Basis of Disease, and Genomics.

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsOur goal is to define targets for cancer therapeutics by identifying alterations in signal transduction proteins. We first identified a naturally occurring mutant EGF receptor (EGFRvIII) and then delineated its unique signal transduction pathway. This work led to the identification of Gab1 followed by the discovery that JNK is constitutively active in tumors. We intiated using altered proteins as the target for vaccination, where an EGFRvIII based vaccine appears to be highly effective.

    BioDr. Becky Wong is an adult and pediatric anesthesiologist at Stanford University Hospitals and Clinics and The Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital in Stanford, California. She received her medical school degree at The University of California at San Diego and her anesthesia residency and pediatric anesthesia fellowship training at Stanford. She provides anesthesia care for a wide range of ages with a focus on neuroanesthesia. She co-chairs the Neuroanesthesia Special Interest Group in the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia. As an Associate Director for Quality Improvement in the Stanford Anesthesia Department, she has a deep interest in improving patient care.
