Somalee Datta
Director of Research IT, Technology & Digital Solutions
Current Role at StanfordI am currently the Director of Research IT at School Medicine. Research IT is a critical part of Stanford's Precision Health Strategy and exists to supply infrastructure, tools, and services used by researchers, patients/participants, and clinicians to collect and combine data to make discoveries and to improve human health and wellness. Our team builds and maintains STARR (STAnford medicine Research data Repository), Stanford REDCap, CHOIR and mHealth platforms and builds custom applications to streamline hundreds of studies.
I joined Stanford in Oct 2012 as the Director of Bioinformatics at Stanford Center for Genomics and Personalized Medicine (SCGPM). My responsibility at the Center was to develop and lead the bioinformatics team and establish a genomics data analysis facility. Currently, SCGPM bioinformatics team is comprised of a dozen scientists and software engineers. The team has a wide range of skill sets including omics, computational biology, machine learning, software engineering, data management, Databases, Visualization, High Performance Computing, IT, and Cloud DevOps. The team is currently supporting several large scale research and clinical programs at Stanford including prestigious consortium efforts and inter-disciplinary collaborations. The team also supports Genetics Bioinformatics Service Center (2013-), a facility that provides best-in-class high performance computational systems, scalable Cloud computing and cutting edge bioinformatics services for the Stanford community. -

Current Role at StanfordBee provides all administrative support to Profs Gross, Walton, Goodman, Dweck and Thomas. This also includes students and research groups in the areas of travel and human subject reimbursements, payments of invoices, verification of PCard and Travel card transactions. She also handles domestic and foreign travel arrangements and in-charge of ordering supplies in the area. She process Visiting Student Researcher and Visiting Scholar paper works.
Bee has been with Stanford for more than 20 years. She started working for Department of Urology, then moved to Department of Medicine as a Residency Coordinator. In 2004, she ventured to Department of Pediatrics to run the Fellowship Program. After working for School of Medicine, she decided to join the other side of the campus in the Department of Theater and Performance Studies and explore her creative side. Bee loves to dance and listen to different kinds of music (except for heavy metal). When she is off from work, she loves to watch various concerts around the Bay Area. She loves dogs and will stop, pet or sometimes talk to dogs that walk around campus. email -

BioI am interested in processes that impact the evolution of the Antarctic ice sheet and could ultimately lead to wide spread mass loss and unstable retreat. Ice flow is modulated by conditions at the ice-bed interface however the basal environment is very challenging to directly measure due to the remote location, vast size, and extreme thickness of the ice sheet. As a result, it's unknown how the ice sheet could evolve to changes in basal forcing. I am particularly interested in the basal thermal regime and the ability of basal thawing to drive changes in ice flow and stability. The integration of radar analysis and numerical modeling is a powerful way to investigate this problem. With these techniques, I am investigating the ice sheet’s response to changes in the extent of thawed basal regions in order to project possible mass loss and contribution to sea level rise.

Francisco M. De La Vega
Adjunct Professor, Biomedical Data Science
BioFrancisco De La Vega is a distinguished geneticist and computational biologist, and an experienced technical executive, widely recognized for his expertise in clinical and population genomics, and bioinformatics. Currently serving as the Vice President of Hereditary Disease at Tempus Labs, Francisco is spearheading the development of comprehensive germline genetic tests and conducting innovative research into racial disparities in cancer leveraging Tempus’ multimodal Real-World Data. His work focuses on uncovering the connections between genetic ancestry and cancer genome mutational profiles that may help explain the differences in cancer incidence and outcomes across races and ethnicities. In addition to his role at Tempus Labs, Francisco is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Biomedical Data Science at Stanford University School of Medicine and is a member of the Board of Directors of the International Society of Computational Biology, serving from 2022 to 2025.
Francisco teaches BIODS-235: "Best practices for developing data science software for clinical and healthcare applications" every Winter quarter.
