Aadhityaa Mohanavelu

BioAadhityaa Mohanavelu is a Ph.D. candidate in the Osman Lab at Stanford University, where he works on quantifying water and infrastructure challenges and developing more equitable and resilient infrastructure systems. His research uses tools and techniques from diverse disciplines, including computational modeling, artificial intelligence, qualitative methodology, spatial analysis, and sensor-based experiments, to better understand infrastructure and environmental problems and develop innovative solutions.
He has a strong background in modeling hydro-climatic systems, studying infrastructure resilience, and assessing environmental hazards. Aadhityaa is a 2023 Quad Fellow in the inaugural cohort. Outside research, he loves to hike, read books and travel. -

BioI was born, raised, and trained in Nashik, India where I completed my formal Medical Education before moving to New York City where I completed my residency in Internal Medicine at New York Downtown Hospital in New York, NY. My interests are in preventative medicne, health and wellness, occupational and environmental safety. In Stanford's Occupational Health Department, I practice clinical occupational medicine while working toward identifying health and safety issues within our enviroment to prevent further injury and illness to our employees.

Parviz Moin
Franklin P. and Caroline M. Johnson Professor in the School of Engineering
BioMoin is the founding director of the Center for Turbulence Research. Established in 1987 as a research consortium between NASA and Stanford, Center for Turbulence Research is devoted to fundamental studies of turbulent flows. Center of Turbulence Research is widely recognized as the international focal point for turbulence research, attracting diverse groups of researchers from engineering, mathematics and physics. He was the founding director of the Institute for Computational and Mathematical Engineering at Stanford.
Professor Moin pioneered the use of direct and Large Eddy Simulation techniques for the study of turbulence physics, control and modelling concepts and has written widely on the structure of turbulent shear flows. His current interests include: Computational physics, Physics and control of turbulent boundary layers, hypersonic flows, propulsion, flow control, large eddy simulation for aerospace applications and aircraft icing. -
James M. Mok, MD
Clinical Associate Professor, Orthopaedic Surgery
BioDr. Mok is a board-certified, fellowship-trained spine surgeon with the Stanford Medicine Spine Center in Redwood City. He is also a clinical associate professor of medicine in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.
Dr. Mok diagnoses and treats a wide range of degenerative spine conditions, including disc herniations, spinal stenosis, myelopathy, and spondylolisthesis, as well as patients who have had previous spine surgery. He specializes in minimally invasive surgical techniques and strives to perform the least invasive procedures with the highest chances of success. His surgical specialties include minimally invasive microdiscectomy and laminectomy, minimally invasive spinal fusion, and artificial disc replacement.
Prior to Stanford, Dr. Mok worked as an orthopaedic spine surgeon with the NorthShore Orthopaedic and Spine Institute, the only dedicated orthopedic specialty hospital in the Chicago region. He was previously Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Chicago.
Dr. Mok served on active duty in the United States Army Medical Corps with the rank of Major. His military experience included deployment to the Iraq theater as an orthopaedic surgeon and spine surgery consultant.
Dr. Mok has published work in many leading journals in his field, including The Spine Journal, Spine, and Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. He has presented to his peers at international, national, and regional meetings, including annual meetings of the North American Spine Society, the Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery, and the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
Dr. Mok is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Association, the North American Spine Society, the Scoliosis Research Society, and the Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery. -
Mahati Mokkarala
Assistant Professor of Radiology (Body Imaging)
Current Research and Scholarly InterestsMy research focus as a new attending will be on evaluating and implementing new technology in the radiology workplace including how technology can benefit private practice and academic radiologists.
This research focus is based on my current and previous research projects and interests. As an abdominal imaging fellow at the University of Pennsylvania, I worked on projects understanding how to apply spectral CT data in a clinical and research setting. Current projects include determining if spectral CT data can quantify normal organ characteristics. Understanding the age-old question of ‘what is normal’ is essential for determining if spectral CT data can help radiologists identify and characterize pathology.
Other previous research projects with interventional and diagnostic radiology colleagues at MIR include improving and evaluating the efficacy of multiple embolization agents. Additional diagnostic radiology projects as a resident included optimizing artificial intelligence programs that streamline radiology critical action items and better characterize glioblastoma imaging patterns. All projects had a common theme, focusing on implementing technology that could benefit both clinical and radiology practice and making sure that these tools would be useful for radiologists and other specialists. Radiology is unique because of how essential imaging interpretation is for modern medicine. An academic radiologist should be the leader in both developing and successfully integrating technology in the clinical world. -

Todd Molz

BioTodd Molz spent two decades in senior leadership at Oaktree Capital Management, a global alternative asset manager that grew from $30 billion to more than $200 billion in assets under management during his tenure. As Chief Operating Officer and a member of its Executive Committee, he oversaw all non-investment functions, including finance, technology, legal, compliance, and human resources, across 26 offices worldwide. He led investments in the firm's technology infrastructure and the establishment of Oaktree's Hyderabad office, which grew to become the firm's second-largest office in under a year.
Previously, as General Counsel and Chief Administrative Officer, Todd led several defining milestones, including Oaktree’s 2007 listing as the first company on Goldman Sachs' GSTrUE private trading platform, its 2012 NYSE listing, and its 2019 go-private transaction with Brookfield.
Earlier in his career, Todd was a partner in the tax and transactional practice at Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP, advising on tax and structuring in complex private equity, M&A, and financial transactions. He began his legal career clerking for Judge Alfred T. Goodwin on the Ninth Circuit and was one of six inaugural recipients of the ABA's John S. Nolan Fellowship.
Todd's interests include the evolution of alternative asset managers into global institutions, with a focus on corporate governance and organizational leadership. He holds a J.D. with Honors from the University of Chicago Law School, where he was Order of the Coif and a member of the Law Review, and a B.A. in Political Science from Middlebury College. He has served on the boards of Oaktree Capital Management and 17Capital, and as a trustee of Children's Hospital Los Angeles and other nonprofit organizations. -
Hylton Molzof, PhD, MPH
Clinical Assistant Professor, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences - Sleep Medicine
BioDr. Molzof is a Clinical Assistant Professor and Licensed Psychologist in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Stanford School of Medicine. She specializes in the assessment and treatment of sleep disorders via behavioral sleep medicine interventions, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) and positive airway pressure (PAP) desensitization. She also utilizes evidence-based techniques to help patients better manage circadian rhythm disorders, such as delayed sleep-wake phase disorder and shift work sleep disorder. Inspired by her background in public health, she has a strong interest in quality improvement and program development projects aimed at enhancing the quality and accessibility of sleep and circadian medicine for the diverse patient population served by Stanford Sleep Medicine Center.

Shadi Momtahen

BioShadi Momtahen holds a BSc and MSc in Computer Science and Engineering, and a Ph.D. in Mechatronic Systems Engineering from Simon Fraser University, where she collaborated with the BC Cancer Agency on deep learning applications for cancer detection and treatment. She previously served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Medicine at the University of British Columbia, working with the International Collaboration on Repair Discoveries (ICORD) to develop machine learning models for biosensor-based health monitoring.
Currently, Shadi is a Postdoctoral Scholar at the Aghaeepour Lab at Stanford Medicine. Her research focuses on applying deep learning to large-scale medical datasets—including wearable vital signs—to identify clinically relevant patterns and enable predictive, personalized healthcare. -
Denise M. Monack

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsThe primary focus of my research is to understand the genetic and molecular mechanisms of intracellular bacterial pathogenesis. We use several model systems to study complex host-pathogen interactions in the gut and in immune cells such as macrophages and dendritic cells. Ultimately we would like to understand how Salmonella persists within certain hosts for years in the face of a robust immune response.

Samsuzzoha Mondal

BioSamsuzzoha Modal is a Research Associate at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory and a Ph.D. chemist specializing in advanced microscopy and biophysical chemistry. His research integrates protein engineering, structural biology, and quantitative imaging to understand how protein organization across length scales regulates biological activity, and to translate these mechanistic insights into therapeutic and diagnostic approaches.
Samsuzzoha earned his Ph.D. at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (Mumbai, India), where he developed chemical tools to image signaling phospholipid dynamics in live biological systems. He then completed postdoctoral training at the University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia), building in vitro reconstitution models to study the molecular basis of membrane trafficking. Since 2023 at SLAC, he has been combining X‑ray crystallography, small‑angle X‑ray scattering, and advanced optical methods to uncover design principles for quantum biosensing tools and to support structure‑guided small‑molecule therapeutic development.
A committed educator and mentor, Samsuzzoha has taught bioanalytical chemistry and led diverse student teams, emphasizing inclusive, hands‑on training, reproducible data practices, and translational problem‑solving. -

Tamara Montacute, MD, MPH

BioTamara Kailoa Montacute is a board certified Family Medicine physician. She enjoys taking care of the entire family (including kids), and has special interest in women’s health, adolescent health, community health, chronic disease management, mental health and office based procedures. She also speaks Spanish.
She was born in New Zealand, grew up in England and moved to Seattle when she was twelve. Prior to attending medical school at Stanford, she completed her Masters in Public Health at Columbia University and spent several years working on public health programs in Mexico, Panama, Ethiopia and Rwanda. After medical school, she completed a Family Medicine Residency at O’Connor Hospital in San Jose. She is the co-medical director of Arbor Free Clinic, teaches several primary care focused medical student courses and spends part of her time caring for patients at the Samaritan House Free Clinics in Redwood City and San Mateo.
Outside the clinic, she enjoys hiking, biking, gardening and playing with her daughter and 2 dogs. -

BioDena Montague is an Environmental Justice Lecturer at Stanford University. She is also the Founder and Executive Director of ÉnergieRich, an early-stage start-up establishing community based local manufacturing of solar energy systems in Ghana. ÉnergieRich develops collaborative research partnerships between Ghanaian engineers and engineers in the African Diaspora to implement innovative energy solutions that center community voices. Her research focuses on energy justice through decentralized production; impacts of Global North clean energy transition on climate/environmental justice in the Global South. Prior to her position at Stanford, she was a Postdoctoral Scholar at Duke University and Lecturer at The Bren School of Environmental Science and Management at UC Santa Barbara.

Samuel Montalvo

BioAs a clinical exercise physiologist, sport scientist, and biomechanist, I study the mechanical, physiological, and molecular determinants of human performance and health. I am certified as a Performance and Sport Scientist (CPSS), Strength and Conditioning Specialist with Distinction (CSCS,*D), and Clinical Exercise Physiologist.
I am a Postdoctoral Scholar in Cardiovascular Medicine at Stanford University and a member of the Stanford Bioinformatics Core and Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance. My training has been supported by the Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance Postdoctoral Fellowship, the NIH T32 Research Training in Myocardial Biology at Stanford, and a two-year NIH/NHLBI Loan Repayment Program award in Research in Emerging Areas Critical to Human Health.
My research integrates clinical exercise physiology, cardiopulmonary exercise testing, biomechanics, and multi-omics to better understand how physical activity influences cardiovascular health, biological adaptation, and athletic performance. Through the NIH-funded Molecular Transducers of Physical Activity Consortium, I analyze large clinical, multi-omic, multi-tissue, multi-modality, and multi-species datasets to identify mechanisms and biomarkers of exercise response.
I also collaborate on projects involving sports cardiology and electrocardiography, cardiopulmonary exercise testing, exercise and neuromuscular disease, and athlete performance, including work with Stanford Baseball and external sports-science collaborators.
Teaching and mentoring are central to my academic work. As a first-generation college graduate and Mexican American with Indigenous heritage, I am committed to creating supportive and inclusive pathways for trainees from underrepresented backgrounds. I serve as a Postdoctoral Mentoring Coach with the Stanford Office of Postdoctoral Affairs, participate in the Stanford PRISM program, and mentor prospective and current medical students through the MAVERICs program within the Stanford Cardiovascular Institute.
My long-term goal is to lead an independent research program that combines exercise physiology, multi-omics, physical activity, nutrition, cardiovascular science, and sports performance while mentoring the next generation of scientists. -

I am also working on applications of these techniques to healthcare data analytics.
