    BioDr. Perin Kothari, is a Clinical Associate Professor of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine and a specialist in cardiothoracic anesthesiology. He completed medical school at Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine, anesthesiology residency training at the Cleveland Clinic where he served as Chief Resident, and cardiothoracic anesthesiology fellowship at the University of California, San Diego.

    Dr. Kothari is a Fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography and American Osteopathic College of Anesthesiologists, and he is committed to education and mentorship at all career stages. He serves as the residency rotation director for cardiac anesthesiology, where he focuses his teaching on advanced perioperative transesophageal echocardiography and organ preservation strategies for heart and lung transplantation, and he mentors residents in the Stanford Medical Education Pathway. He has received the Educator of the Year Award from the Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Fellowship program and is Director of his Department's faculty mentorship program and the Anesthesiology Speaker Program Inter-Exchange (ASPIRE), which provides early career faculty with national speaking opportunities.

    Dr. Kothari has nearly 30 publications, which mostly focus on educating the practicing physician on updated evidence-based guidelines. He is an invited speaker at national medical conferences, serves on several committees of national organizations such as the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists, American Society of Anesthesiologists, and American Society of Echocardiography, and is an Editorial Board member of the Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia.

    BioNataliya Kovalchuk is a Clinical Professor at Stanford Radiation Oncology department and an Adjunct Professor at MD Anderson Cancer Center. She completed her residency at Mayo Clinic and worked at Massachusetts General Hospital/Boston Medical Center/Harvard Medical School. Dr. Kovalchuk is one of the leaders in the clinical implementation of Biology-Guided Radiotherapy and auto-planning techniques for Total Body Irradiation (TBI), Total Marrow Lymphoid Irradiation (TMLI), and Cranio-Spinal Irradiation (CSI), with more than 200 publications and presentations. She serves on multiple committees at AAPM, ASTRO, NRG, COG, and volunteers for ABR as an examiner. She is also a physics chair for four NRG and COG clinical trials, physics lead for the NRG Head and Neck committee and the VMAT TBI workgroup. In recognition of her educational efforts, she has been honored with six teaching awards from ARRO, AAPM, Stanford, and Harvard. Since the full-scale russian invasion of Ukraine, Nataliya directed her efforts to helping Ukraine as a co-founder and president of Help Ukraine Group. Her dedication was recognized with the Richard Hoppe Leadership Award and the Parliament of Ukraine Certificate of Merit for the Service to the People of Ukraine.

    BioDr. Kozal is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases and Geographic Medicine and is the Director of Operations for the Department of Medicine Clinical Research Hub. He previously served as Senior Associate Dean for Veteran Affairs at Stanford School of Medicine and Chief of Staff at VA Palo Alto Health Care System. Prior to coming to Stanford, he was a Professor of Medicine at Yale University School of Medicine and served as Associate Dean for Veteran Affairs at Yale University School of Medicine and the Chief of Staff at VA Connecticut Healthcare System.

    Dr. Kozal is a translational researcher who has focused his research career on three areas: 1) investigating the genetic determinants of HIV and HCV drug resistance, 2) the development of new molecular methods to detect viral mutations, and 3) HIV and HCV clinical trials involving new drugs and diagnostic technology. Dr. Kozal is an expert in microarray and deep sequencing technology receiving patents for his work in genotyping. Dr. Kozal previously directed the Yale HIV Clinical Trials Group and has more than 20 years of experience in running clinical trials, serving as the principal investigator or site investigator on >40 HIV and Hepatitis C trials. He has served on multiple VA and NIH/NCI review panels and was a member of the DHHS/NIH Panel on Antiretroviral Guidelines for Adults and Adolescents from 2015-2024.

    Dr. Kozal is currently serving as the overall Director of Operations for the Department of Medicine Clinical Research Hub. The key hub functions include research navigation, enhanced pre-award support for budgeting and submission strategy, streamlined contracting with research sponsors, a multisite clinical coordination center to coordinate and monitor complex studies, and a centralized digital platform for study design, data access, and analytics.

    BioDr. Kraler is a board-certified neurologist with subspecialty training in vascular neurology, and a Clinical Assistant Professor at Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. Kraler is also the Associate Program Director for the Vascular Neurology Fellowship at Stanford.

    Before joining the faculty at Stanford, Dr. Kraler attended medical school at Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California where she was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha National Honor Society. She completed her residency training at Stanford Hospital where she served as chief resident, followed by her Vascular Neurology fellowship training at Stanford. She then completed a post-doctoral research fellowship at Stanford University’s Clinical Excellence Research Center (CERC) focused on addressing the high cost of care in US Hospitals.

    Her research interests include improving access and quality of population health and developing high-value innovations in care delivery that decrease the cost of care while improving the quality to patients. In addition, she has a strong interest in medical education. Dr. Kraler has received recognition for outstanding medical student teaching from the Department of Neurology.

    BioDr. Kratter is an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University School of Medicine. He is also an adult psychiatrist and fellowship-trained neuropsychiatrist and provides ongoing mentorship and leadership in the Stanford Brain Stimulation Laboratory.

    His clinical interests include the psychiatric and cognitive aspects of movement disorders like Parkinson's and Tourette's as well as depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and non-invasive and invasive neuromodulation for neuropsychiatric illness.

    His research interests focus on assessing outcomes and understanding the mechanisms of both neuromodulatory and novel pharmacological treatments. This includes both clinical and more mechanistic studies, such as using techniques like repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) and deep brain stimulation in combination with neuroimaging and electrophysiology. He has been a co-investigator for such studies focusing on obsessive-compulsive disorder, major depressive disorder, and suicidal ideation, and traumatic brain injury.
    His work has appeared in a number of scientific journals including Nature Medicine, American Journal of Psychiatry, Journal of Clinical Investigation, Translational Psychiatry, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Science. He also co-authored the chapter on major depression in the textbook Deep Brain Stimulation: Techniques and Practice.

    BioDr. Kraus is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Stanford Children’s Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Center trained in the specialty of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) sports medicine. She has research and clinical interests in endurance sports medicine, injury prevention, running biomechanics, prevention of bone stress injuries, and the promotion of health and wellness at any age of life. Dr. Kraus is the director of the FASTR Program, which stands for Female Athlete Science and Translational Research. The FASTR program is supported by the Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance and seeks to close the gender gap in sports science research with an emphasis on early identification and interventions to prevent injury and identify ways to optimize performance in female athletes. Dr. Kraus is also a member of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee Women's Health Task Force and is the medical director of the Stanford Children's Motion Analysis and Sport Performance Lab. She has completed nine marathons including the Boston Marathon twice and one 50k ultramarathon. With running and staying physically active as one of her personal passions, she recognizes the importance of fitness for overall wellbeing and the prevention of chronic medical conditions.

    BioDr. Krishnamohan is a board-certified, fellowship-trained neurologist. He is a clinical assistant professor of neurology and neurological sciences and, by courtesy, of neurosurgery at Stanford University School of Medicine. In addition, he is Medical Director of the Neurosciences Service Line at Stanford Health Care – ValleyCare and is Medical Director of its Stroke program.

    Dr. Krishnamohan excels in the diagnosis and treatment of neurological conditions. His clinical interests include the management of stroke, epilepsy, concussion, and coma. With every patient, his goal is to provide personalized care designed to optimize neurological function for the best possible clinical outcome and quality of life.

    He has published extensively on topics including innovations in stroke care quality management and measurement, rapid bedside evaluation of seizures in the ICU, and EEG metrics in comatose cardiac arrest patients. Articles by Dr. Krishnamohan have appeared in Neuroanesthesia and Neurocritical Care, Quality Management in Healthcare, Current Infectious Disease Reports, and other journals. He has presented his research findings at the annual meetings of the Neurocritical Care Society and American Academy of Neurology.
    He has authored chapters on post-concussive syndrome, stroke, and other conditions for the guidebook Ferri’s Clinical Advisor. In addition, he is a reviewer for the Journal of Neuroscience Nursing, Neurohospitalist, and the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Psychiatry.

    Dr. Krishnamohan has won recognition from Stanford Health Care, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement Open School, the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, and PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research – the latter two his alma maters.

    Dr. Krishnamohan is a member of the Neurocritical Care Society, American Academy of Neurology, and American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. He volunteers as a community health educator with numerous organizations.

    BioDr. Krishnan is a translational scientist with experiences in engineering, biosciences, molecular genetics and hematology. Having recently completed her NIH clinical scientist career development award (NHGRI 1K08HG010061-01A1, 2018-24), and NIH-supported research re-entry (NCATS 3UL1TR001085-04S1, 2016-18), Anandi’s interests are in expanding our understanding of the multifaceted function of anucleate blood platelets and their parent megakaryocytes in human disease.

    Her current work, applying platelet transcriptome profiling and machine learning principles, aims to nominate novel clinically relevant strategies for personalized cancer and antiplatelet/antithrombotic therapy. Continued development of this research is likely to identify key mechanistic variables in platelet- and megakaryocyte-specific response to health and disease.

    Recent contributions in both computational and mechanistic components of platelet and blood research lay the groundwork for sustaining contributions to the field of hematology genomic medicine (e.g. Shen et al PMID 34755136, Seetharam et al PMID 36712071, Kelliher et al PMID 37961700, Thomas & Krishnan PMID 38175681, Abbonante et al PMID 38165147, Jutzi et al PMID 35763665, Campbell et al PMID 36194487). Anandi was also was one of the first non-MD PhD scientist to be awarded the NHGRI K08 Clinical Scientist Research Career Development Award, the HTRS Mid-Career Research Award, and the MPN Research Foundation Challenge Grant Award, reflecting her consistent efforts bridging basic and clinical disciplines.

    BioSara M. Krzyzaniak, MD, is a Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine and the Program Director for the Stanford Emergency Medicine Residency. She has held progressive leadership roles in undergraduate and graduate medical education since completing her Emergency Medicine residency training at Denver Health Medical Center, with prior faculty appointments at the University of Illinois College of Medicine before joining Stanford.

    Dr. Krzyzaniak’s scholarly work focuses on medical education, with particular emphasis on gender equity, assessment and feedback, faculty development, and leadership training within academic medicine. She has authored more than forty peer-reviewed publications, multiple book chapters, and several volumes within the Education Theory Made Practical series. Her academic contributions also include more than one hundred invited national and international presentations.

    At Stanford, Dr. Krzyzaniak teaches and mentors across all stages of medical education and holds administrative, curricular, and clinical teaching responsibilities. She serves on numerous institutional and national committees, contributes as an editorial board member and ad hoc reviewer for journals in both emergency medicine and medical education, and maintains an active portfolio of professional service.     BioDr. Andre Kumar is a Clinical Professor in the Stanford Division of Hospital Medicine with a passion for improving patient care through Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS), clinical research, and education. He earned his MD from Tulane University and completed his residency, chief residency, and a Master's in Education at Stanford University.

    Dr. Kumar has extensive experience in creating, operationalizing, and leading multi-center clinical trials, including investigations related to POCUS, COVID-19 therapeutics, procedural safety, and the long-term health consequences of infections on the heart and lungs. He continues to conduct research and teach POCUS on a local and national level, and is committed to improving the science and education that underlie the next generation of diagnostic tools. Currently, his research focuses on the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on numerous healthcare applications, particularly for the improving the accuracy of clinician diagnosis, evidence-based management, and medical imaging.

    Dr. Kumar is also a committed educator and mentor to the next generation of physicians. His contributions to medical education have been recognized with several awards, including the Lawrence H. Mathers Award for Exceptional Commitment to Teaching (2023), the Henry J. Kaiser Foundation Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching (2018, 2022), and the David A. Rytand Clinical Teaching Award (2018, 2022, and 2025). Dr. Kumar has contributed to the creation of free educational content for POCUS, including videos for the Stanford Medicine 25 series, New England Journal of Medicine, and JAMA, which have amassed over 1,000,000 views worldwide.

    Dr. Kumar has held numerous leadership positions that reflect his commitment to advancing medical education and clinical practice. He is also the Co-Founder and Director of the SHAPE Program in the Stanford Internal Medicine Residency Program and Co-Director of Clinical Reasoning at Stanford School of Medicine.     Current Research and Scholarly InterestsMy main interest is in understanding the biology of human neoplasms, using traditional histopathology, molecular genetic techniques, and other modalities. In particular, I am interested in soft tissue and genitourinary neoplasms, especially prostate cancer.

    I am also interested in the classification and nomenclature of neoplasms and in practical research that helps us refine these, using a variety of techniques but still principally guided by histopathology.

    I also work on developing next generation sequencing-based tests for genotyping tumors and in expanding the scope of this testing with the goal of identifying patients eligible for novel targeting therapies.

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsWe study cancer biology, intestinal stem cells (ISC), and angiogenesis. We use primary organoid cultures of diverse tissues and tumor biopsies for immunotherapy modeling, oncogene functional screening and stem cell biology.     BioDr. Kuo is a physician-scientist with expertise in single-cell genomics and pulmonary medicine. She has made pioneering contributions to pulmonary neuroendocrine cell (PNEC) biology by developing innovative strategies that established the first comprehensive framework for understanding the molecular and cellular diversity of normal PNECs and their roles in health and disease. Her discoveries have laid the foundation for this emerging field and her contributions are recognized internationally.

    PNECs are exceedingly rare lung epithelial cells with specialized airway sensory, secretory, and stem cell functions. These neurosensory cells are thought to monitor airway oxygen, chemicals, mechanical deformation, infection, and injury, and serve as sentinels that signal this sensory information locally in the lung, to the brain through synapses with pulmonary sensory neurons and potentially globally throughout the body via secretion of myriad local signals and hormones. PNECs are also known to play critical roles in the control of breathing, cough, and respiratory physiology. Among their diverse physiologic functions, their response to injury has been most intensively studied in murine models and they are a cell of origin for high grade lung neuroendocrine tumors.

    Dr. Kuo performed the first comprehensive anatomical mapping and lineage tracing studies of PNECs in mice which generated a foundational understanding of PNEC development (Kuo and Krasnow, Cell 2015). She also led single cell transcriptomic profiling studies that revealed a surprising diversity in PNEC sensors and signals (Kuo et al, eLife 2022). PNECs express over 25 different sensory receptor genes ("sensors") and over 40 different neuropeptide and peptide hormone genes ("signals"). Her scRNA-seq analysis of PNECs revealed a remarkable number and diversity of PNEC neuropeptide signals and their predicted cellular targets both within the lung and to innervating sensory neurons (Kuo et al., 2022, eLife).

    In contrast to the advanced understanding of PNEC development, stem cell, and signaling function in mouse, little is known about human PNECs. To compare the findings of PNEC development, diversity, and function in mouse models to human diseases, her lab recently established a platform to systematically construct a human PNEC atlas. This foundational work created a molecular and anatomic framework for the entire human pulmonary neuroendocrine system and the diseases that are predicted to originate from distinct PNECs. Her lab has recently used this new PNEC atlas combined with single cell transcriptomic approaches to identify the molecular diversity of anatomically and functionally distinct human PNECs.

    Dr. Kuo's studies with human models extends her lab’s current research aims to define the diverse neuroendocrine sensory and signaling interactions and the molecules that mediate them to their roles in lung cancer, neuroendocrine proliferative disorders such as diffuse idiopathic neuroendocrine cell hyperplasia (DIPNECH), neuroendocrine cell hyperplasia of infancy (NEHI) and major inflammatory and obstructive pulmonary diseases. Dr. Kuo’s lab engages a network of collaborators to develop and implement clinical protocols and strategically apply cutting-edge technologies to studying minor, but physiologically diverse airway sentinels.

    BioDr. Kwon joined the Stanford Pain Medicine faculty in 2021. He is board-certified in Anesthesiology, Pain Medicine, and board-eligible in General Pediatrics. His clinical focus is in chronic pain care transition from adolescence to adulthood and chronic pain syndromes of young adults (below age 30). Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team and leveraging digital health solutions, he is building the Stanford Adolescent and Young Adult Pain Program to bridge the Pediatric Pain Management Program at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford and the Stanford Pain Management Center at Stanford Hospital and Clinics.

    Dr. Kwon completed his B.S. degree in Biology at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA. As an undergraduate student, he pursued bone tissue engineering and stem cell research within the MIT Langer Lab and drug delivery research within the Laboratory for Biomaterials and Drug Delivery at Boston Children's Hospital. He then received his medical degree at Harvard Medical School and the Harvard-MIT Program in Health Sciences and Technology. As a medical student, he did research in neuroengineering and optogenetics in the MIT Media Lab. He completed a combined residency in Pediatrics and Anesthesiology at Boston Children's Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital and a fellowship in Pain Medicine at Stanford Hospital.

    With his diverse research background in various engineering fields, he continues to collaborate with colleagues across academia and industry in medical device and technology development. During the first wave of COVID-19 pandemic and when a critical shortage of ICU ventilators was looming in the United States, he co-led the clinical team for the MIT Emergency Ventilator project (https://emergency-vent.mit.edu/), which published an open-source reference design for converting any manual resuscitator bag into a basic ventilator. This open-source reference design has given rise to multiple spin-off ventilator designs across the globe and continues to save countless patient lives in countries where limited critical care resources are available. Dr. Kwon is interested in building more resilient critical care healthcare systems leveraging technology that is actually designed to meet the infrastructural challenges in developing countries.

    Dr. Kwon received her Bachelors of Science in Biology from Brown University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude and then received her medical degree at Stanford University. After medical school, Dr. Kwon completed an internship in Medicine at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore before completing her dermatology residency at the University of Washington in Seattle. She runs the Supportive Dermato-Oncology Program at the Stanford Cancer Center, where she manages skin side effects of cancer therapies including chemotherapy-related skin reactions, radiation dermatitis, and graft-versus-host disease. Dr. Kwong completed medical school at Yale University, and completed her dermatology residency at Stanford University in 2012.

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsArthropod-borne viruses are emerging and re-emerging infections that are spreading throughout the world. Our laboratory investigates the epidemiology of arboviral infections, focusing on the burden of disease and the long-term complications on human health. In particular, Dr. LaBeaud investigates dengue, chikungunya, and Rift Valley fever viruses in Kenya, where outbreaks cause fever, arthritis, retinitis, encephalitis, and hemorrhagic fever. Our main research questions focus on the risk factors for arboviral infections, the development of diagnostic tests that can be administered in the field to quickly determine what kind of arboviral infection a person has, and the genetic and immunologic investigation of why different people respond differently to the same infection. Our long-term goals are to contribute to a deeper understanding of arboviral infections and their long-term health consequences and to optimize control strategies to prevent these emerging infections. Our laboratory also investigates the effects of antenatal and postnatal parasitic infections on vaccine responses, growth, and development of Kenyan children.

    My lab at Stanford supports the field work that is ongoing in Kenya, but we also have several projects that are based locally. We strive to improve diagnostics of arboviral infections and are using Luminex technology to build a new screening assay. We also have created a Luminex based platform to assess vaccine responses against multiple pathogens.

    BioDr. Lahijani is a Clinical Professor at Stanford University School of Medicine and a nationally recognized leader in psycho-oncology. With extensive training and expertise in internal medicine, psychiatry, and consultation-liaison psychiatry, she has made significant contributions to the integration of psychiatric care within oncological settings.

    Since her appointment at Stanford in 2015, Dr. Lahijani has served as the lead psychiatric oncologist at the Stanford Cancer Center, where she provides medical psychiatric consultation services and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to enhance patient outcomes. In her capacity as Medical Director of the Stanford Cancer Center Psychosocial Oncology Program, a position she has held since 2019, she is responsible for the strategic development and implementation of comprehensive psychiatric services tailored to the unique needs of patients with cancer.

    Additionally, Dr. Lahijani serves as the Section Chief of Psycho-Oncology in the Division of Medical Psychiatry where she oversees psych-onc faculty development and leads the training of medical psychiatry fellows in psycho-oncology. She is the Faculty Director of the Psychosocial Oncology Clerkship for medical students. She serves as the Service Director for the Psycho-Oncology Track for the Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Fellowship. Dr. Lahijani also supervises advanced practice providers and behavioral health clinicians while working as an attending psychiatric oncologist to provide care for patients with complex medical and psychiatric comorbidities across all hematology and oncology services.

    Dr. Lahijani's academic credentials include her graduation from Brown Medical School, followed by the completion of a combined residency in Internal Medicine and Psychiatry at Rush University Medical Center. After completing residency, she practiced internal medicine and psychiatry with a focus on triple diagnosis (HIV, addiction medicine, mental health). She then further advanced through a Psychosomatic Medicine Fellowship at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine, during which time she received specialized training in psychiatric oncology at the Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

    Her clinical expertise encompasses psychopharmacology and a range of treatment modalities, including Meaning Centered Psychotherapy and Dignity Therapy. Dr. Lahijani is committed to fostering relationship-centered skills and promoting provider wellness. As a faculty member of Advancing Communication Excellence at Stanford, she has led workshops designed to enhance communication competencies among faculty and staff.

    Dr. Lahijani's scholarly pursuits are at the intersection of medicine and psychiatry, with a particular emphasis on the neuropsychiatric sequelae of cancer treatment, innovations in care, and medical education.     BioDavid D. Laitin is the James T. Watkins IV and Elise V. Watkins Professor of Political Science at Stanford University. He received his BA from Swarthmore College, and then served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Somalia and Grenada, where he became national tennis champion in 1970. Back in the US, he received his Ph.D. in political science from UC Berkeley, working under the direction of Ernst Haas and Hanna Pitkin.

    He has taught at three great universities: UCSD (1975-87), the University of Chicago (1987-1999) and now at Stanford. Over his career, as a student of comparative politics, he has conducted field research in Somalia, Yorubaland (Nigeria), Catalonia (Spain), Estonia, and France, all the time focusing on issues of language and religion, and how these cultural phenomena link nation to state. His books include Politics, Language and Thought: The Somali Experience (1977), Hegemony and Culture: Politics and Religious Change among the Yoruba (1986), Language Repertoires and State Construction in Africa (1992), Identity in Formation: The Russian-Speaking Populations in the Near Abroad (1998); Nations, States and Violence (2007); Why Muslim Integration Fails in Christian-Heritage Societies (2016); and African Politics Since Independence (2019).

    In collaboration with James Fearon, he has published several papers on ethnicity, ethnic cooperation, the sources of civil war, and on policies that work to settle civil wars. Laitin has also collaborated with Alan Krueger on international terrorism and with Eli Berman on suicide terrorism.

    In 2008-2009, with support from the National Science Foundation, and with a visiting appointment at Sciences-Po Paris, Laitin conducted ethnographic, survey and experimental research on Muslim integration into France, seeking to assess the magnitude of religious discrimination and isolate the mechanisms that sustain it. In collaboration with Claire Adida and Marie-Anne Valfort, they published the results in Why Muslim Integration Fails in Christian Heritage Societies (Harvard Press, 2016).

    In 2016, Laitin became co-director of Stanford's Immigration Policy Lab, and has co-authored several papers published in "Science", "Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences" and "Nature Human Behavior" that estimate the effects of policy on immigrant integration.

    Laitin has been a recipient of fellowships from the Howard Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation, the Guggenheim Foundation, and the Russell Sage Foundation. He is an elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences. In 2021 Laitin was the recipient of the John Skytte Prize in Political Science from the Johan Skytte Foundation in Uppsala University, Sweden.

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsMyelin is required for rapid nerve signaling by insulating axons to accelerate action potential propagation. Myelin-forming cells of the central nervous system, called oligodendrocytes, orchestrate one of the most complex morphological transformations in neurobiology. Each oligodendrocyte can extend multiple processes that selectively wrap axons in tens to hundreds of spiraling membrane layers, forming myelin sheaths that vary in thickness and length. Furthermore, oligodendrocytes can respond to neural activity by adding new sheaths or by changing the geometry of pre-existing sheaths to tune neural circuitry, a process known as adaptive myelination.

    What are the membrane trafficking mechanisms that drive adaptive myelination in oligodendrocytes?

    How can these mechanisms be stimulated to promote myelin regeneration in disease?

    By using transgenic mouse models and primary oligodendrocytes, we have found that SNARE-mediated exocytosis drives membrane addition in myelin sheaths. Current research is focused on how these pathways in oligodendrocytes may be regulated during adaptive myelination.

    BioDr. Vinh Lam is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Primary Care and Population health. He earned his MD from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and chose to stay in Los Angeles to complete his family medicine residency training at UCLA. During his training, Dr. Lam developed a strong interest in teaching and medical education through his involvement with resident education and the graduate medical education committee. He also spent 1 year as a resident informaticist where he also became very interested in informatics, medical technology, and innovative solutions to improving patient health outcomes and decreasing physician burnout. Dr. Lam enjoys caring for patients of all ages from pediatrics to geriatrics, performing office-based procedures, and prioritizing preventative care.
    Outside of medicine, Dr. Lam loves to travel with his family, dabbles in photography and videography, and enjoys attempting to recreate meals he has had while traveling with his wife.

He is also a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Division of Medical Psychiatry at Stanford University School of Medicine. He is the lead psychiatrist in the Gastrointestinal Behavioral Medicine Program and the medical director of psychiatric emergency services at Stanford Health Care. In addition, Dr. Lamothe is a supervisor of the Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic.

    Dr. Lamothe specializes in addressing emotional, behavioral, and psychological factors that contribute to persistent gastrointestinal symptoms. He uses evidence-based therapies and medication management to help improve his patients’ quality of life.

    Dr. Lamothe’s research interests include health anxiety, nutritional support outcomes in patients with gastroparesis, and integrative care models for disorders of gut-brain interaction.

    Dr. Lamothe has published his research in peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, the Canadian Journal of Bioethics, and General Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. He has also presented his research at international, national, and regional meetings, including the annual meetings of the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry (ACLP), the American Psychiatric Association (APA), the Association for the Advancement of Philosophy and Psychiatry (AAPP), and the European Association of Psychosomatic Medicine (EAPM).

    Dr. Lamothe is a member of the American Academy of Psychodynamic Psychiatry and Psychoanalysis, the ACLP, the APA, the Canadian Psychiatric Association, the EAPM, the International Experiential Dynamic Therapy Association (IEDTA), and the Society for Biopsychosocial Science and Medicine (SBSM).

    BioDr. Landegger is a fellowship-trained clinician-scientist in otology, neurotology, and lateral skull base surgery and Instructor at Stanford University School of Medicine. After gaining clinical as well as research experience in various countries (US, UK, France, Spain, Germany, Singapore, Australia), he specialized in otology with translational hearing research in Vienna, Austria and for five years in Boston (Mass Eye and Ear, Harvard Medical School), leading to a PhD in Neuroscience. Apart from clinical projects, current basic research foci are funded by a grant obtained from the American Society of Gene & Cell Therapy and include inner ear gene therapy, vestibular schwannoma, noise-induced hearing loss, and others.

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsDeveloping gene therapy for genetic skin diseases is my major focus. Prior to that, we are developing methods to give effective and efficient care to infants with rare and disabling genetic skin diseases including epidermolysis bullosa and ichthyosis as well as infants and children with unusual and difficult to manage vascular malformations. I am also interested in clinical studies within the NICU protecting premature infants’ skin and clinical studies in children with common skin diseases.

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsAs a professor in the Medical Center Line, my primary investigative interest has been in clinical neuroradiology. This encompasses spinal cord and spine disease, degenerative and demyelinating diseases of the central nervous system, strokes and infarction, and chronic epilepsy syndromes. Facial and head and neck vascular malformations and hemangiomas have been a focus of interest for many years, with collaborative projects involving dermatology and functional restoration services.
