Jake J. Lee, MD
Clinical Assistant Professor, Otolaryngology (Head and Neck Surgery)
BioDr. Lee is a fellowship-trained head and neck surgical oncologist with Stanford Medicine Cancer Center’s Head and Neck Cancer Program. He is also a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Otolaryngology—Head & Neck Surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine.
He treats benign and malignant tumors of the head and neck, including oral cancer, tonsil cancer, throat cancer, and thyroid cancer. As a result of his fellowship training, he also specializes in minimally invasive transoral surgery, organ preserving laryngeal surgery, and microvascular free flap reconstruction. Microvascular free flap reconstruction involves moving a piece of tissue, with blood vessels included, to a different part of the body to preserve function after cancer therapy.
Dr. Lee’s research interests include assessment of head and neck cancer treatment outcomes and development of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) in order to optimize form and function. He has also studied new therapies for smell and taste loss, including the design and implementation of randomized controlled trials (RCTs).
He has published in several peer-reviewed journals, including JAMA Otolaryngology—Head & Neck Surgery, Head & Neck, Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery, and Laryngoscope. He has presented to his peers at international, national, and regional meetings, including the annual meetings of the American Head and Neck Society (AHNS), American Rhinologic Society (ARS), and the American Academy of Otolaryngology—Head & Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS).
Dr. Lee is a member of the AHNS, AAO-HNS, and Triological Society. He has previously served as the chair of the AAO-HNS Foundation Section for Residents and Fellows-in-Training. -

The VA has the US's largest health care system and longest running EHR. I prioritize enabling multiple partners (industry, government, academia, foundations), to innovate/R&D in the VA health care system. Jinwoo Lee, MD, PhD, FAAD

BioDr. Jinwoo Lee is a physician-scientist and board-certified dermatologist on the clinical faculty in the School of Medicine. He received his B.S. in biology from Caltech and his M.D./Ph.D. from the UCSF Medical Scientist Training Program. Dr. Lee completed his residency in dermatology at Stanford, where he joined the Investigative Training Track to conduct basic science research in autoimmunity and inflammation. Dr. Lee’s scientific research focuses on identifying the mechanisms underlying the onset and progression of autoimmune diseases. His clinical interests include medical management of complex dermatologic conditions, autoimmune skin diseases, as well as general dermatology.
Dr. Lee is currently only seeing patients on Monday afternoons at the Stanford Medicine Outpatient Center in Redwood City. -

Clinical Assistant Professor, Emergency MedicineBioDr. Lee is board-ceritfied in emergency medicine, pain medicine, and addiction medicine. He works clinically as pain medicine and emergency medicine specialist at Stanford University.
Dr. Lee offers employs multi-modal medication utilization, injection therapies, radiofrequency ablation, and neuromodulation, to help patients manage their pain and improve their quality of life. Dr. Lee’s academic interests include interventional pain management in acute care settings, ED utilization and management for acute and chronic painful conditions, and transitions of care between inpatient and outpatient settings. He is actively involved in medical education, including programs for national pain conferences, focusing on training acute care providers in evidence-based, opioid-sparing approaches to pain management. -

What do we mean by the words, phrases, and concepts that we invoke in daily life?

Research:
His research focuses on the causes and consequences of, as well as solutions to, rising skepticism and distrust in sources of expert information (e.g., science, health). He has a special interest in exploring skepticism and persuasion at the intersection of health and politics, which includes studying phenomena such as the politicization of science and health, political polarization, filter bubbles/echo chambers, the emerging post-truth world, and information warfare. It also includes seeking heteorgeneity in the findings across particular demographics at high socioeconomic and health risk. He draws on theories and methods from his uniquely interdisciplinary set of educational, research, and professional experiences, including those from experimental and behavioral economics, political science, psychology, philosophy, and machine learning. He is currently using machine learning-based text analytics to explore how trust/distrust in sources of expert information is discussed on traditional and social media -- followed by the use of online randomized controlled survey experiments to test the causal effects of particular persuasion strategies on perceptions of trust/distrust, as well as other important behavioral outcomes of interest. -
Julie Jung Hyun Lee
Clinical Assistant Professor, Medicine - Primary Care and Population Health
BioDr. Julie J. Lee is a board-certified physician in Internal Medicine, Obesity Medicine, and Clinical Informatics at Stanford, where she works at the intersection of technology, precision health, and real-world clinical care.
As Health Equity Informaticist in Stanford's Division of Primary Care and Population Health, she leads data-informed strategies to evaluate and integrate digital health tools into clinical environments. Her work spans AI in healthcare, remote patient monitoring, patient portal communication, and clinical decision support, with a focus on ensuring these tools are clinically grounded, operationally feasible, and built around how patients and clinicians actually work. She advises industry and innovators on what it takes to move from promising technology to real-world impact.
Her clinical practice centers on obesity medicine and cardiometabolic health, where she applies precision and individualized approaches to challenge one-size-fits-all frameworks. She advocates for moving beyond outdated BMI-driven care toward more meaningful measures such as body composition, while helping build evidence that better reflects the diversity of patients, including Asian and Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities.
Health equity and ethics shape how she approaches research, clinical care, and technology evaluation. As a physician who speaks both the language of medicine and the language of technology, Dr. Lee is interested in designing healthcare systems that strengthen clinical reasoning, improve communication between patients and clinicians and across interprofessional care teams, and ensure technology enhances the human practice of medicine. -

Ramrada Lekwuttikarn MD

BioRamrada Lekwuttikarn, MD is a pediatric dermatologist and clinical investigator in the Division of Pediatric Dermatology at Stanford University School of Medicine and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. She serves as a Research Scientist and Clinical Instructor with expertise in vascular anomalies, genetic skin diseases, and inflammatory skin disorders.
Dr. Lekwuttikarn received her medical degree and pediatric training at Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University, Thailand, and completed subspecialty training in pediatric dermatology at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital in Thailand. She subsequently completed clinical research fellowships at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Stanford University. Prior to joining Stanford, she served as Chief of Pediatric Dermatology and Assistant Professor at Ramathibodi Hospital.
Her work focuses on translational research and clinical trials developing targeted therapies for complex pediatric skin diseases. -

BioDr. Anna Lembke received her undergraduate degree in Humanities from Yale University and her medical degree from Stanford University. She is currently Professor and Medical Director of Addiction Medicine, Stanford University School of Medicine. She is also Program Director of the Stanford Addiction Medicine Fellowship, Chief of the Stanford Addiction Medicine Dual Diagnosis Clinic, and a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the American Board of Addiction Medicine.
In 2016, she published "Drug Dealer, MD – How Doctors Were Duped, Patients Got Hooked, and Why It’s So Hard to Stop" (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2016), highlighted in the New York Times as one of the top five books to read to understand the opioid epidemic (Zuger, 2018).
Dr. Lembke appeared in the Netflix documentary The Social Dilemma, an unvarnished look at the impact of social media on our lives.
Her latest book, "Dopamine Nation: Finding Balance in the Age of Indulgence" (Dutton/Penguin Random House, August 2021) was an instant New York Times and Los Angeles Times bestseller and has been translated into 30 languages. Theodore Leng, MD, MS, FACS

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsDr. Leng was the first surgeon in California to perform a subretinal transplant of adult neural stem cells into patients with macular degeneration and is actively researching cell and gene regenerative therapies for macular degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa, Stargardt disease, and other degenerative conditions of the macula and retina. He also has an active program in imaging informatics, oculomics, and deep learning to identify patients who are at risk for eye and systemic disease. The end goal is earlier detection and rapid treatment to maximize outcomes.

BioMarc Leon (also known as Hongliang Liang), M.D., Ph.D., previously served as Chief Surgeon, Associate Professor of Cardiovascular Surgery, and Director of the Division of Coronary Artery Surgery at Xijing Hospital in Xi'an, China. Currently, he is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Stanford Hospital. Dr. Leon is a surgeon member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS), the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT), and the Chinese American Academy of Cardiology (CAAC). His clinical and research expertise includes the surgical management of cardiopulmonary failure, heart valve disease, and ischemic heart disease, along with the application of stem cell therapy for myocardial infarction. Current Research and Scholarly InterestsMy multidisciplinary research program is focused on (1) the detrimental effects of glucocorticoids, sarcopenia and inflammation on bone development in pediatric diseases, (2) the long-term effects of childhood cancer on bone and muscle quality, (3) the assessment of renal osteodystrophy using novel micro-imaging techniques, (4) the effects of vitamin D deficiency on physical function and cardiovascular disease, and (5) the evaluation of biomechanical interventions as anabolic bone therapies.
