He completed his residency training in neurology at the University of California, San Francisco, and joined the Stanford Neurocritical Care program after completing fellowship training in neurocritical care at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. He has a clinical and research interest in traumatic brain injury and disorders of consciousness. In addition, he maintains a strong interest in improvement science, quality improvement, and patient safety.

Sonia Tikoo-Schantz

BioI utilize paleomagnetism and fundamental rock magnetism as tools to investigate problems in the planetary sciences. By studying the remanent magnetism recorded within rocks from differentiated planetary bodies, I can learn about core processes that facilitate the generation of dynamo magnetic fields within the Earth, Moon, and planetesimals. Determining the longevities and paleointensities of dynamo fields that initially magnetized rocks also provides insight into the long-term thermal evolution (i.e., effects of secular cooling) of planetary bodies. I also use paleomagnetism to understand impact cratering events, which are the most ubiquitous modifiers of planetary surfaces across the solar system. Impact events produce heat, shock, and sometimes hydrothermal systems that are all capable of resetting magnetization within impactites and target rocks via thermal, shock, and chemical processes. Therefore, I am able to use a combination of paleomagnetic and rock magnetic characterization to investigate shock pressures, temperatures, structural changes, and post-impact chemical alteration experienced by cratered planetary surfaces.

BioDaniel Ting, MD, PhD, Stanford Adjunct Associate Professor and Duke-NUS Jong Soy Leong Professor, is one of the world's leading clinician-AI scientists, vitreoretinal surgeons, technology innovators and entrepreneurs, with expertise spanning retinal medicine and surgery, AI and healthcare technology. His work sits at the intersection of medicine, AI, innovation and technology translation. A former US-ASEAN Fulbright Scholar at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory and School of Medicine, his research spans machine learning, deep learning, large language models, multimodal foundation models, explainable AI and privacy-preserving technologies, alongside safe, responsible and ethical clinical AI. He has contributed to international consensus and reporting initiatives including STARD-AI, QUADAS-AI and DECIDE-AI.
Professor Ting works across the full translational spectrum of AI in healthcare, from algorithm development and multimodal foundation models to generative and agentic AI, clinical implementation, regulatory science, health economics and commercialization. He is Founding Co-Director of the SingHealth Duke-NUS Artificial Intelligence in Medicine Institute (AIMI), Director of the SingHealth AI Office, Chief Data & Digital Officer of the Singapore National Eye Centre, and Head of AI & Digital Innovation at the Singapore Eye Research Institute. He serves on Singapore's Ministry of Health AI Steering Committee and is a core leader of SIMFONI, Singapore's national programme for sovereign multimodal foundation models in healthcare.
His research has advanced the development, validation and real-world deployment of medical AI, including national-scale AI-enabled diabetic retinopathy screening, health-economic evaluation, privacy-preserving AI, medical imaging foundation models and responsible generative AI. More recently, his work has expanded into sovereign agentic AI and enterprise AI orchestration, combining frontier models, specialised agents, institutional knowledge, verification and structured human oversight for regulated environments.
Professor Ting has authored more than 400 peer-reviewed publications, attracting more than 45,000 citations with an H-index above 86, including influential work in JAMA, The Lancet, Nature Medicine, Nature Biomedical Engineering, The Lancet Digital Health and NEJM AI. He was recognised in the World's Top 100 AI Power List (2024) alongside AI leaders including Jensen Huang, Fei-Fei Li and Yann LeCun. He has been named among Stanford University's World's Top 2% Scientists (2022–2026), the Top 100 Power List in Ophthalmology, and the World's Top 10 Ophthalmic Innovators (2025). Rebecca Lauren Tisdale
Assistant Professor of Medicine (PCPH)
BioBecca Tisdale, MD, MPA is an internist, obesity medicine specialist, and health services researcher with interests in cardiovascular disease, global health, and health systems. As a VA Health Services Research & Development fellow (2020-2023) and Investigator in the VA Center for Innovation to Implementation (Ci2i) and Stanford Cardiovascular Outcomes, Policy, & Implementation Research Group (COPIR), her work has focused on value, access, and equity in cardiovascular disease care and the role of virtual care in achieving these goals. She additionally serves as Medical Director of the Evaluation Sciences Unit (ESU) with the Division of Primary Care and Population Health.
Previously, she received a BA with distinction in Human Biology from Stanford in 2009, followed by a master of public administration (MPA) joint degree from Sciences Po, Paris and the London School of Economics. She then matriculated at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons for medical school, where she was active in global health activities, researching multidisciplinary teams in HIV care in Ethiopia and serving on the board of the student international health organization. As a global health track resident at Stanford, Becca spent time working in Rwanda through the Johnson and Johnson program and participated in the inaugural Women Leaders in Global Health conferences at Stanford and in London. In 2019-2020, she comprised one third of Stanford’s first all-woman internal medicine chief resident cohort. Outside of work, she enjoys all things French as well as running, both in races and after her young children. -
Christina (Christy) Tise, MD, PhD

BioDr. Christina (Christy) Tise is a physician scientist and Assistant Professor in the Division of Medical Genetics at Stanford with subspecialty training in Clinical Biochemical Genetics. Dr. Tise has developed multiple research projects focused on the clinical impact of biochemical genetic conditions in pregnancy and newborn health, including a project focused on unforeseen diagnoses in individuals initially identified through state newborn screening which has resulted in a number of publications.
Dr. Tise also researches the genetic etiologies of recurrent pregnancy loss and the impact of inherited metabolic conditions on human reproduction. She is involved in several research initiatives including contributing to the development of TRIOS, a multi-site, NIH-funded research study to evaluate the genetic causes of recurrent pregnancy loss. In serving as the primary research mentor for a recent Masters of Genetic Counseling graduate, Dr. Tise’s research on carrier and newborn screening has highlighted areas of ancestry-related healthcare inequities specific to the field of Medical Genetics.
Dr. Tise’s primary academic and advocacy interests are embodied in this work, specifically the overlap between biochemical and molecular analysis, and the clinical utility of innovative technologies for diagnosis and treatment of genetic disease. This is an unbelievably thrilling time for the field of Medical Genetics, as it promises immense progress and opportunity for all fields of medicine, and Dr. Tise is determined, honored, and incredibly excited to be a part of it!

Fouad Tobagi
Professor of Electrical Engineering
BioTobagi works on network control mechanisms for handling multimedia traffic (voice, video and TCP- based applications) and on the performance assessment of networked multimedia applications using user-perceived quality measures. He also investigates the design of wireless networks, including QoS-based media access control and network resource management, as well as network architectures and infrastructures for the support of mobile users, all meeting the requirements of multimedia traffic. He also investigates the design of metropolitan and wide area networks combining optical and electronic networking technologies, including topological design, capacity provisioning, and adaptive routing.

Adam Tobin
Senior Lecturer of Art and Art History
BioAdam Tobin is a screenwriter teaching courses in short and feature film writing, TV pilots, script analysis, fiction film production, and adaptation. He created the half-hour comedy series About a Girl and the reality series Best Friend's Date for Viacom's The-N network (now TeenNick), won an Emmy Award for Discovery Channel’s Cash Cab, and has written for ABC, ESPN, and the National Basketball Association. He was a story analyst for Jim Henson Pictures and has taught story and pitching seminars at Dreamworks Animation, Twentieth Century Fox/Blue Sky Studios, and Aardman Animations. He also teaches in the Arts Intensive program and offers an Improvisationally Speaking course in Stanford Continuing Studies.
His play She Persisted: The Musical, was a New York Times Critic's Pick and winner of the Off-Broadway Alliance award for Best Family Show. His new musical The Pigeon Gets a Big Time Holiday Extavaganza, co-written with and based on the characters of Mo Willems, bestselling author of Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus and the Elephant & Piggie books, will open in six cities in November 2025. -
Sara L. (Sally) Tobin

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsTobin is a Senior Research Scholar at the Stanford Center for Biomedical Ethics. She obtained her Ph.D. in Developmental Biology from the University of Washington and did postdoctoral research in Genetics at the University of California, Berkeley and in Biochemistry at the University of California, San Francisco. She became a faculty member at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in 1983 and moved to Stanford University in 1996. Her research contributions have been published in prestigious journals such as Cell, Nature, Genes & Development, Neuron, and Journal of Cell Biology.
Projects
With her collaborator, graphic designer Ann Boughton, Tobin has completed the production of three educational multimedia CD-ROM discs about the genetic revolution in medical care sparked by the rapid advances in our knowledge about the human genome. An on-line version derived and updated from these CDs is pending release through Twisted Ladder Media, and is entitled: "The New Genetics: Medicine and the Human Genome. Molecular Concepts, Applications, and Ramifications." In addition, Tobin and Boughton have collaborated on educational websites on inherited risk of breast cancer and on hereditary colorectal cancer with the Stanford Cancer Genetics Clinic.
Tobin's current major research interests include an educational project funded by the National Science Foundation to create and evaluate innovative modules for undergraduates entitled, "The New Genetics: Electronic Tools for Educational Innovation." The modules are presented in on-line form as an electronic course and are accompanied by workbook exercises and problem sets. The content includes principles of genetics, molecular genetic technologies, applications in medicine, environmental biology, agriculture, and society, as well as implications. In addition, she is collaborating on two projects that are exploring the ramifications of using genetic information about addiction risk in the judicial system.
Tobin is a member of the Benchside Consultation Team for the Center for the Integration of Research on Genetics and Ethics, and she evaluates clinical protocols for ethical issues for the Clinical Translational Research Program. -
Andreas Tolias
Professor of Ophthalmology
BioAndreas Tolias is a faculty member at Stanford University, where he co-leads the Enigma Project. His research lies at the interface of neuroscience and AI, combining large-scale neuroscience experiments with machine learning to uncover the principles of natural intelligence. By focusing on perceptual inference and decision-making, his lab integrates systems and computational neuroscience with AI to decipher the network-level principles of intelligence. Dr. Tolias’s work aims to reverse-engineer these principles to create AI systems that are smarter, more robust, trustworthy, and efficient, while providing a powerful platform to test brain algorithms under complex natural tasks. He earned his B.A. and M.A. in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge, a Ph.D. in Systems and Computational Neuroscience from MIT, and completed postdoctoral training in Neuroscience and Machine Learning at the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics in Tübingen.

Kimberley Tolias
Professor (Research) of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine
Current Research and Scholarly InterestsThe human brain is composed of billions of neurons connected through trillions of synapses that form the neural circuits underlying thought, emotion, learning, memory, and behavior. These synaptic connections are not static - they are continuously shaped and remodeled throughout life in response to experience, a processes critical for learning and memory. When neural circuits fail to develop or function properly, the consequences can be devastating, contributing to conditions ranging from autism spectrum disorder and intellectual disability to chronic pain, depression, schizophrenia, Alzheimer's disease, and cognitive decline.
Research in the Tolias laboratory seeks to understand the fundamental molecular and cellular mechanisms that govern how neural circuits form, adapt, and repair themselves in the mammalian central nervous system (CNS). Our work focuses on how neurons sense signals from their environment and convert them into intracellular signaling pathways that drive synapse formation and remodeling, dendritic and axonal growth, and cell migration. We are also interested in how disruption of these pathways contributes to neurological and neuropsychiatric disease, and whether targeting specific signaling mechanisms can promote recovery following CNS injury or disease.
The laboratory combines mouse genetics with molecular, cellular, biochemical, electrophysiological, genomic, and behavioral approaches to bridge fundamental neuroscience with translational discovery.

Arielle Woloshin Tolman
Lecturer, Legal Research and Writing
BioAri’s research interests center on the intersection of criminal law, health law, and constitutional law. Her current project uses mixed empirical methods — analyzing administrative data, interviews, and ethnographic observations — to examine the national scope and consequences of the criminal prosecution of incarcerated people with mental illness for their behavior inside prison. This project received support from the American Bar Foundation, the Horowitz Foundation for Social Policy, and the Kellogg Dispute Resolution Research Center. Ari’s previous scholarship has been published in a broad range of journals including Law and Society Review, Law and Social Inquiry, Northwestern University Law Review, Lancet, and Schizophrenia Bulletin.
Prior to joining Stanford Law, Ari clerked for Judge William A. Fletcher on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and for Justice Goodwin Liu on the Supreme Court of California. She also worked as an associate attorney at Rosen Bien Galvan & Grunfeld LLP in San Francisco, where she represented two classes of incarcerated people in federal court.
Ari graduated summa cum laude from Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law with a JD/PhD in Sociology. She received the John Paul Stevens Prize for highest GPA of graduating law students. While a law student, she served as Editor-in-Chief of the Northwestern University Law Review and worked in the Children and Family Justice Center clinic. Ari received her BA with High Honors in Sociology and High Honors in Neuroscience and Behavior from Wesleyan University. -
Lauren Tompkins
Associate Professor of Physics
Current Research and Scholarly InterestsProfessor Tompkins’s research focuses on understanding the relationships which govern matter’s most fundamental constituents. As a member of the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), she utilizes the world’s highest energy person-made particle collisions in order to understand the mechanism that gives particles mass, whether or not our current model of elementary particle interactions is a complete description of nature, and if dark matter can be produced and studied in colliders.
In order to search for the exceedingly rare interactions which may provide insight to these questions, the LHC will produce a blistering rate of 50 to 80 proton-proton collisions every 25 nanoseconds in 2015 and beyond. Professor Tompkins works on the design and implementation of custom electronics which will improve the ATLAS experiment’s ability to pick out the collisions which produce the Higgs bosons, dark matter particles and other rare events out of the deluge of ordinary interactions. Her group focuses on particles called heavy flavor fermions, the most massive particles not responsible for mediating interactions. Because they are so heavy, they may have a special connection to the origin of mass or physics beyond our current models of particle interactions.
She is additionally a member of the Light Dark Matter Experiment (LDMX), a proposed experiment to produce and detect dark matter in the laboratory utilizing an accelerated beam of electrons, and the Heavy Photon Search Experiment, which searches for visible decays of dark photons.

Michael Tomz
William Bennett Munro Professor of Political Science and Senior Fellow at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research
BioMichael Tomz is the William Bennett Munro Professor in Political Science and Chair of the Department of Political Science at Stanford University. He is also a Senior Fellow at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research, a Senior Fellow at the Stanford Center on Global Poverty and Development, and the Landreth Family University Fellow in Undergraduate Education.
Tomz has published in the fields of international relations, American politics, comparative politics, and statistical methods. He is the author of Reputation and International Cooperation: Sovereign Debt across Three Centuries and numerous articles in political science and economics journals.
Tomz received the International Studies Association’s Karl Deutsch Award, given to a scholar who, within 10 years of earning a Ph.D., has made the most significant contribution to the study of international relations. He has also won the Giovanni Sartori Award for the best book developing or applying qualitative methods; the Jack L. Walker Award for the best article on Political Organizations and Parties; the best paper award from the APSA section on Elections, Public Opinion and Voting Behavior; the best paper award from the APSA section on Experimental Research; and the Okidata Best Research Software Award. His research has been supported by the National Science Foundation.
Tomz has received numerous teaching awards, including the Dean’s Award for Distinguished Teaching and the Cox Medal for Excellence in Fostering Undergraduate Research. In 2017 he received Stanford’s highest teaching honor, the Walter J. Gores Award for Excellence in Teaching. He founded and continues to direct the Summer Research College program for undergraduates in political science.
Tomz holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University; a master’s degree from the University of Oxford, where he was a Marshall Scholar; and an undergraduate degree from Georgetown University. Diana Tordoff

BioDiana M. Tordoff, PhD, MPH is an epidemiologist with expertise in LGBTQ+ health equity and gynecological health research. Dr. Tordoff completed her PhD and MPH in Epidemiology at the University of Washington and received a BA with honors in Mathematics from Vassar College. She is also an affiliated researcher with The PRIDE Study (pridestudy.org), where she recently completed a postdoctoral fellowship. Her current research focuses on the impact of exogenous hormones (gender affirming hormones and menopause hormone therapy) on sexual and gynecological health. Her research interests include sexual and reproductive health, menopause, the vaginal microbiome, molecular epidemiology, intersectionality, and community-engaged research methods.

BioDr. Lénie Torregrossa is a clinical psychologist and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Stanford University School of Medicine. At Stanford, she works on the inpatient psychiatric units and in the INSPIRE clinic.
Dr. Torregrossa specializes in schizophrenia spectrum disorders, psychosis, and serious mental illness. Her approach to treatment is person-centered and recovery-focused, grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and informed by acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). She is a CBT for Psychosis (CBTp) trainer and a member of the early psychosis coordinated specialty care team (INSPIRE360) at INSPIRE. Dr. Torregrossa's research focuses on risk and protective factors for schizophrenia spectrum disorders, self-disturbances in schizophrenia, and improving treatments for psychosis. She serves on the steering committee of the North America CBT for Psychosis Network (NACBTpN) and is a member of the Schizophrenia International Research Society, the Society of Biological Psychiatry, and the American Psychological Association.
