    BioDr. Patricia Rodriguez Espinosa, PhD., MPH, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Population Health and also serves as the Associate Director of Research for the Office of Community Engagement at Stanford Medicine. Dr. Rodriguez Espinosa is also the Associate Core Lead for the Outreach, Recruitment, and Engagement Core of the Stanford Alzheimer's Disease Research Center. The ultimate goal of her research is to improve the health of diverse populations - including Latinxs, under-resourced communities, and older adults - through transdisciplinary and community-engaged scholarship. Her research aims to develop novel multi-level interventions and health promotion programs to improve health outcomes (e.g., around aging, multiple chronic conditions, cardiovascular disease) and that include multi-sectoral collaborations. Dr. Rodriguez Espinosa's research has also centered around developing the science of Community-Based Participatory Research, citizen/community science, and other participatory research approaches.

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsOur team is fascinated by how cells make growth decisions — to grow or not to grow. In order to grow, cells require nutrients, and we are unraveling how cells use specialized protein sensors and transporters to sense and traffic nutrients in between various compartments. We use approaches from structural biology, chemical biology, biophysics, biochemistry, and cell biology — to reveal the mechanisms of basic biological processes, and we develop chemical probes that modulate them.

    BioDr. Rogers is a board-certified, fellowship-trained cardiologist with the Cardiac Arrhythmia Service at Stanford Health Care. He is also an instructor of medicine in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, Department of Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine.

    As a clinical cardiac electrophysiologist, Dr. Rogers’ training includes evaluating issues involving electrical activity in the heart and how these can lead to an abnormal heart rhythm (arrhythmia). His expertise includes mapping regions in the heart associated with arrhythmias and then applying a minimally invasive therapy (ablation) that targets the responsible areas causing the problem. He also performs procedures to implant cardiac devices, such as pacemakers and defibrillators, designed to synchronize heart contractions and reset irregular heartbeats.

    Dr. Rogers specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, and other arrhythmias. In collaboration with Stanford Medicine cardiovascular surgeons, he performs hybrid surgical-catheter ablation procedures as a more permanent treatment for persistent forms of atrial fibrillation and for inappropriate sinus tachycardia. During this procedure, ablation therapy is applied to areas both inside and outside of the heart responsible for the arrhythmia.

    As a physician-researcher, Dr. Rogers’ translational research applies biomedical engineering and machine learning approaches to explore the mechanisms underlying cardiac arrhythmia. These efforts include research funded by the National Institutes of Health and the American Heart Association to investigate novel methods for diagnosing and treating heart rhythm disorders. Dr. Rogers has over 10 years of experience with medical technology innovation and development.

    Dr. Rogers serves as associate editor of the Journal of Invasive Cardiovascular Electrophysiology. He is also a peer reviewer for multiple prestigious journals, including Heart Rhythm, The Lancet: Digital Health, the Journal of the American College of Cardiology: Clinical Electrophysiology, and Frontiers in Physiology. He has been an invited guest speaker at national and international meetings, including those for the American Heart Association and the European Cardiac Arrythmia Society.

    BioDr. Rogo-Gupta is a urogynecologist and Associate Division Director of Gynecology and Gynecologic Specialties, Clinic Chief of the Ambulatory Gynecology Service Line, and Well-Being Director for the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. In her current roles, Dr. Rogo-Gupta seeks to incorporate physician well-being into strategic decisions impacting all parts of the academic mission—clinical care, education, and research. She is particularly proud of operational changes to increase efficiency and improve both patient and physician experience. Under her leadership gynecology was recognized as one of the TOP 10 patient experience drivers across the enterprise. Dr. Rogo-Gupta is passionate about teaching and mentoring and has received numerous awards throughout her career and enjoys lecturing locally and abroad.

    Dr. Rogo-Gupta’s experiences in clinical operations and medical education have given her a unique perspective on faculty development needs at academic medical centers. She is actively involved in the design and implementation of department-wide programs including mentorship and coaching, critical event support, faculty didactics, and the Obstetrics and Gynecology Stanford Network for Advancement and Promotion program.

    Dr. Rogo-Gupta proudly joined Stanford in 2013 following residency at Columbia University and fellowship at the University of California, Los Angeles, where she also completed the NIH K30 Graduate Research Training Program. Dr. Rogo-Gupta’s research interests include surgery outcomes and institutional and national levels her work has been widely published and recognized by the American Board of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. She currently serves on the Editorial Board of her specialty journal, Urogynecology.

    BioNidhi Rohatgi, MD, MS, SFHM, is a Clinical Professor of Medicine and (by courtesy) Neurosurgery, Anesthesiology, Perioperative, and Pain Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine. She served as Chief of Surgical Co-management for Neurosurgery, ENT, and Orthopedic Surgery at Stanford. Dr. Rohatgi is Affiliate Faculty at Stanford's Center for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine and Imaging (AIMI) and Center for Digital Health. She served as Co-Director of Clinical Research in Hospital Medicine and Physician Lead of Stanford Health Care's Readmissions Committee.

    Dr. Rohatgi has authored peer-reviewed articles in high-impact journals (NEJM, Lancet, JAMA, Nature, Annals of Surgery), led workshops and webinars, and written book chapters in Perioperative Medicine. She is a global advisor on surgical co-management models and chaired the Society of Hospital Medicine's Global Technical Advisory Committee on co-management. Dr. Rohatgi serves as the Editor-in-Chief for JMIR Perioperative Medicine journal and is on the Editorial Board for Brown University's Journal of Hospital Medicine. She has been an invited speaker at several regional, national, and international meetings.

    Dr. Rohatgi has served as Medical Director for Clinical Advice Services in Patient Experience at Stanford for over 10 years, overseeing after-hours clinical support and triage for 30+ services and 180+ clinics, and handling 90,000+ calls annually. This award-winning service has a strong track record in patient safety, reducing unnecessary ED and clinic visits, and reducing pages to on-call teams by over 90%.

    She has served on multiple national committees: Society of Hospital Medicine's Research Committee, Hospital Quality and Patient Safety Committee, Perioperative Medicine Executive Council, Practice Management Committee, Perioperative and Consultative Medicine Educational Portal Planning Committee, and Leadership Committee for the Hospital Medicine National Writing Challenge. Dr. Rohatgi has served as a principal investigator and co-investigator for NIH and industry-sponsored trials. Recognized as a Top Hospitalist by the American College of Physicians, she has received numerous national and international awards for clinical care, quality improvement, teaching, and research.

    Dr. Rohatgi has written on LLMs for clinical text summarization and pharmacogenomics, multimodal in-context learning (presented at NeurIPS), promises and limitations of AI, and digital twins. In her upcoming book, Dr. Rohatgi shares a blueprint for AI in medicine: where AI can help and how, global health AI trends, and tackling costs. Her unique lens spans clinical experience in rural India to Silicon Valley, managing patients in medical and surgical specialties, research on millions of patient records, investigator for clinical trials, patient experience, clinical triage, and health system operations. Dr. Rohatgi is passionate about innovative, value-based, sustainable solutions, and exploring new frontiers in healthcare.

    BioDana Romalis has been a board certified Family Medicine physician since 2004. She enjoys taking care of families throughout all phases of life. Special interests include teaching, collaborative care, preventative medicine, behavioral change, and reproductive and adolescent health. Since 2017, she has been a primary care provider at the Life Connections Health Center in San Jose, caring for Cisco employees and their families.

    She was born and raised in Vancouver, Canada, where she also attended medical school at the University of British Columbia. As an undergraduate at Brandeis University, she double majored in Neuroscience and Psychology, and was captain of the women’s varsity diving team. She did her residency at Montefiore Medical Center’s Residency Program of Social Medicine in the Bronx, NY.

    Prior to joining Stanford’s primary care division in 2017, she worked for 10 years as a primary care physician on Santa Clara Valley Medical Center's interdisciplinary Homeless Healthcare Program. She is committed to comprehensive and compassionate care for all.

    In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and 2 college-aged children, reading, hiking, and volunteering in her community.

Roodman’s current research focuses on the study of Dark Energy using images from the Vera C. Rubin Observatory. He has played a major role in the construction of the LSST Camera, the world's largest digital camera, and is currently the leader of the LSST Camera program and Deputy Director of the Rubin Observatory for construction.

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsI am currently working on two book projects through which I am continuing to develop frameworks for understanding ethnoracial, linguistic, and educational formations. The first examines racial reckonings across distinctive societal contexts by interweaving ethnographic analysis of diasporic Puerto Rican experiences and broader constructions of Latinidad that illustrate race and ethnicity as colonial and communicative predicaments. The second spotlights decolonial approaches to the creation of collective well-being through educational and societal transformations based on longstanding community collaborations in Chicago.

    BioLisa Goldman Rosas, PhD MPH is an Associate Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Population Health and the Department of Medicine, Division of Primary Care and Population Health at Stanford School of Medicine. An epidemiologist by training, Dr. Goldman Rosas’ research focuses on addressing disparities in diet-related chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, depression, and cancer especially for those who face food insecurity. This research features rigorous quantitative and qualitative methodologies, participatory qualitative approaches, and shared leadership with patient and community partners. She is passionate about integrating patients, caregivers, community organizations, and other key stakeholders in the research process in order to affect the greatest improvements in health and well-being. As a reflection of this passion, Dr. Goldman Rosas serves as the Faculty Director for the School of Medicine Office of Community Engagement, Co-Director of Community-Engaged Research for the Office of Cancer Health Equity, and Director of the Outreach, Recruitment and Engagement Core for the Alzheimer's Disease Research Center. In these roles, she supports other faculty and patient and community partners to develop sustainable and meaningful partnerships to support transformative research. In addition to research, she teaches at the undergraduate and graduate levels and has a special focus on increasing capacity in community engagement methods.

Dr. Rose served on NIH Taskforce on Childhood Motor Disorders, AACPDM Research Committee, NIH Steering Committee on CDE for CP neuroimaging diagnostics, BOD of SBMT and serves on the IAACD Research Committee.

    BioSherri Rose, Ph.D. is a Professor of Health Policy and, by courtesy, of Computer Science at Stanford University, where she is Director of the Health Policy Data Science Lab. Her research is centered on developing and integrating innovative statistical machine learning approaches to improve human health. Within health policy, Dr. Rose works on algorithms in health care, risk adjustment, chronic kidney disease, and health program evaluation. She has published interdisciplinary projects across varied outlets, including Biometrics, Journal of the American Statistical Association, Journal of Health Economics, Health Affairs, and New England Journal of Medicine. In 2011, Dr. Rose coauthored the first book on machine learning for causal inference, with a sequel text released in 2018.

    Dr. Rose has been honored with an NIH Director’s Pioneer Award, NIH Director's New Innovator Award, the ISPOR Bernie J. O'Brien New Investigator Award, and multiple mid-career awards, including the Gertrude M. Cox Award. She is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association (ASA) and received the Mortimer Spiegelman Award, which recognizes the statistician under age 40 who has made the most significant contributions to public health statistics. In 2024, she received both the ASHEcon Willard G. Manning Memorial Award for Best Research in Health Econometrics and the ASA Outstanding Statistical Application Award. She was recently awarded the Open Science Champion Prize by Stanford University. Her research has been featured in The New York Times, USA Today, and The Boston Globe. She was Co-Editor-in-Chief of the journal Biostatistics from 2019-2023.

    BioJennifer Rose-Nussbaumer is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained cornea specialist at the Byers Eye Institute at Stanford University. Her clinical practice focuses on corneal transplant, complex cataract surgery and treatment of infectious keratitis. After completing her fellowship in Cornea and External Disease at the University of California, San Francisco, she stayed on faculty and remained there until she transitioned to Stanford in 2021. She continues to collaborate closely with the FI Proctor Foundation as an Associate Proctor Researcher.

    In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Rose-Nussbaumer is an NIH-funded researcher who focuses on randomized clinical trials in ophthalmology. She is the PI on a UG1 grant, Descemet Endothelial Thickness Comparison Trial (DETECT), a randomized clinical trial comparing UT-DSAEK to DMEK and ripasudil versus placebo in patients with endothelial disease such as Fuchs Endothelial Dystrophy. She is also the PI on the Steroids and Cross-linking for Ulcer Treatment Trial (SCUT II), a randomized clinical trial in collaboration with Aravind Eye hospital in India and the University of Sao Paulo looking at the benefit of adjunctive topical steroids, corneal crosslinking or rose bengal photodynamic therapy in the treatment of infectious ulcers.

    TRAINING
    Dr. Rosen is board certified in clinical neuropsychology with a geriatric focus. She completed college at Brown University, a clinical psychology Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University, clinical neuropsychology internship at the Long Island Jewish Hospital in New York, and clinical neuropsychology postdoctoral fellowship at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Dr. Rosen completed specialty research fellowship training at the National Institute on Aging (Intramural Research Training Award) and Stanford (NRSA F32, K01) in functional imaging and noninvasive brain stimulation with support from NIA.

    CLINICAL AND RESEARCH ACTIVITIES
    Dr. Rosen is Director of Dementia Education at the Mental Illness Research Education and Clinical Center at the Palo Alto VAHCS. She is also a neuropsychologist and part of the consensus clinical group and education core at the Stanford’s Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (NIA). Dr. Rosen’s funded research has focused on applying cognitive neuroscience of aging to improve clinical practice in older adults by using cognitive measures, brain imaging, and noninvasive brain stimulation such as TMS. Studies include using fMRI as an outcome measure for cognitive training, studying how to improve the accuracy of transcranial magnetic stimulation targeting with and without image guidance, and using structural MRI to avoid postoperative cognitive decline and improve outcome from carotid vascular procedures. She has a longstanding commitment to neuroethics and leads a feature in the Journal of Alzheimer Disease that focuses on ethical issues in new and emerging AD applications.

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsMy research aims at improving processes and outcomes of mental health care for veterans other people suffering from post-traumatic stress and other mental disorders.

    My primary focus is improving access to evidence-based treatments PTSD and other psychiatric disorders. My second emphasis is using telemedicine technologies to expand access to effective care. My third interest is measurement-based care, using ongoing data on patient progress to inform patients' and clinicians' decisions.

    BioDr. Rosen is a pediatric gastroenterologist and physician scientist who has been devoted to advancing inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) research and care for 25 years. He is the inaugural Stanford University Endowed Professor for Pediatric IBD and Celiac Disease. He is also Director of the Stanford Medicine Children’s Health Center for IBD and Celiac Disease, which has achieved nationally leading clinical outcomes under his direction. Dr. Rosen’s research expertise crosses mucosal immunology and epithelial biology and clinical and translational investigation. His NIH-funded laboratory has demonstrated the protective role for type 2 cytokines in chronic intestinal inflammation and advanced intestinal organoids as a model to study IBD. His clinical research has demonstrated how proactive therapeutic drug monitoring can be incorporated into clinical practice to optimize ant-TNF therapy treatment response. Dr. Rosen led the multicenter ARCH Study, which demonstrated the importance of intensified anti-TNF drug dosing in pediatric acute severe ulcerative colitis. Presently, he is co-principal investigator for the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation’s Cohort for Pediatric Translational and Clinical Research in IBD (CAPTURE IBD) which will advance precision medicine for children with IBD.

    After graduating from Duke University, Dr. Rosen attended Harvard Medical School, followed by pediatrics residency at Boston Children’s Hospital and Boston Medical Center. He pursued his pediatric gastroenterology fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he received a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation. He started his faculty career at Vanderbilt and then moved to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. There he rose to Medical Director of the Schubert Martin IBD Center and Associate Director for Faculty Development in the Gastroenterology division before moving to Stanford in 2021. Dr. Rosen serves on the editorial board for Inflammatory Bowel Diseases and the National Scientific Advisory Committee for the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation. Outside of work, Dr. Rosen enjoys spending time with his wife and two children at their activities, watching movies, downhill skiing, and getting outside.

Her research interests and books focus on the intersections of social issues and their expression through performance.     BioGreg Rosston is Director of the Public Policy program at Stanford University, the Gordon Cain Senior Fellow at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research, and Professor of Economics (by courtesy). He teaches Economics and Public Policy courses on competition policy and strategy, economic policy analysis, and writing and rhetoric.

    Dr. Rosston served as Deputy Chief Economist at the Federal Communications Commission working on the implementation of the Telecommunications Act of 1996 and the design and implementation of the first ever spectrum auctions in the United States. In 2011, he was Senior Economist for Transactions for the Federal Communications Commission for the proposed AT&T – T-Mobile transaction. He served as a member and co-chair of the Department of Commerce Spectrum Management Advisory Committee.

    Dr. Rosston received his Ph.D. in Economics from Stanford University and his A.B. with Honors from the University of California at Berkeley. Dr. Rosston has written extensively on the application of economics to telecommunications and competition issues. He has advised companies and governments regarding auctions and served as a consultant to various organizations including the World Bank and the Federal Communications Commission, and as a board member and advisor to high technology, financial, and startup companies. He serves as Vice Chair of the Board of the Stanford Federal Credit Union, as a Board member of the Nepal Youth Foundation and as an Advisory Board member of Sustainable Conservation and the Technology Policy Institute.

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsThe Roth Lab develops, applies, and translates scalable genetic manipulation technologies in primary human cells and complex in vivo tissue environments. Working with students, trainees, and staff with backgrounds across bioengineering, genetics, immunology, oncology, and pathology, the lab has developed CRISPR-All, a unified genetic perturbation language able to arbitrarily and combinatorially examine genetic perturbations across perturbation type and scale in primary human cells. Ongoing applications of CRISPR-All in the lab have revealed surprising capacities to synthetically engineer human cells beyond evolved cellular states. These new capacities to perturb human cell’s genetics beyond their evolved functionality drives ongoing work to understand the biology and therapeutic potential of synthetic cell state engineering - in essence learning how to build new human genes tailor made for a specific cell and specific environment to drive previously inaccessible therapeutic cellular functions.

    BioGrant Rotskoff studies the nonequilibrium dynamics of living matter with a particular focus on self-organization from the molecular to the cellular scale. His work involves developing theoretical and computational tools that can probe and predict the properties of physical systems driven away from equilibrium. Recently, he has focused on characterizing and designing physically accurate machine learning techniques for biophysical modeling. Prior to his current position, Grant was a James S. McDonnell Fellow working at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences at New York University. He completed his Ph.D. at the University of California, Berkeley in the Biophysics graduate group supported by an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship. His thesis, which was advised by Phillip Geissler and Gavin Crooks, developed theoretical tools for understanding nonequilibrium control of the small, fluctuating systems, such as those encountered in molecular biophysics. He also worked on coarsegrained models of the hydrophobic effect and self-assembly. Grant received an S.B. in Mathematics from the University of Chicago, where he became interested in biophysics as an undergraduate while working on free energy methods for large-scale molecular dynamics simulations.

    Research Summary

    My research focuses on theoretical and computational approaches to "mesoscale" biophysics. Many of the cellular phenomena that we consider the hallmarks of living systems occur at the scale of hundreds or thousands of proteins. Processes like the self-assembly of organelle-sized structures, the dynamics of cell division, and the transduction of signals from the environment to the machinery of the cell are not macroscopic phenomena—they are the result of a fluctuating, nonequilibrium dynamics. Experimentally probing mesoscale systems remains extremely difficult, though it is continuing to benefit from advances in cryo-electron microscopy and super-resolution imaging, among many other techniques. Predictive and explanatory models that resolve the essential physics at these intermediate scales have the power to both aid and enrich the understanding we are presently deriving from these experimental developments.

    Major parts of my research include:

    1. Dynamics of mesoscale biophysical assembly and response.— Biophysical processes involve chemical gradients and time-dependent external signals. These inherently nonequilibrium stimuli drive supermolecular organization within the cell. We develop models of active assembly processes and protein-membrane interactions as a foundation for the broad goal of characterizing the properties of nonequilibrium biomaterials.

    2. Machine learning and dimensionality reduction for physical models.— Machine learning techniques are rapidly becoming a central statistical tool in all domains of scientific research. We apply machine learning techniques to sampling problems that arise in computational chemistry and develop approaches for systematically coarse-graining physical models. Recently, we have also been exploring reinforcement learning in the context of nonequilibrium control problems.

    3. Methods for nonequilibrium simulation, optimization, and control.— We lack well-established theoretical frameworks for describing nonequilibrium states, even seemingly simple situations in which there are chemical or thermal gradients. Additionally, there are limited tools for predicting the response of nonequilibrium systems to external perturbations, even when the perturbations are small. Both of these problems pose key technical challenges for a theory of active biomaterials. We work on optimal control, nonequilibrium statistical mechanics, and simulation methodology, with a particular interest in developing techniques for importance sampling configurations from nonequilibrium ensembles.

    BioDr. Roy is a medical oncologist and a clinical assistant professor in the Stanford University School of Medicine Department of Medicine, Division of Medical Oncology. She has expertise in Lung and Thoracic cancers, but with a broad clinical interest in oncology, including in Carcinoma of Unknown Primary (CUP).

    Dr. Roy became an oncologist because of her passion for patient care. She is committed to being a clinician and is focused on improving the patient experience, given how the complex process of getting cancer care can be made a bit more seamless. She is the Associate Medical Director for Quality at Stanford Cancer Center from 2022.

    She had led major efforts in the cancer program including starting standardized discharge follow up for patients after hospitalization, starting same day clinical care at the cancer center, and also expediting care for patients with an unclear diagnosis of cancer but with suspected imaging concerns.

    Her research interests include access to clinical trials, quality improvement and improving care delivery. In that effort, she has published on work regarding patient reported outcomes (PROs), through distress screening with the Stanford Medicine Cancer Center, and in care for patient with limited English proficiency.

    Dr. Roy received her medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and then completed residency training at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. She then completed fellowship training in Hematology and Oncology at Stanford, where she was chief fellow.

    BioDr. Alexandra Ruan is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology, Pain and Perioperative Medicine at Stanford University. She obtained her undergraduate degrees in Public Health and History of Science at The Johns Hopkins University, and subsequently returned to California for medical school at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine, where she graduated with a Distinction in Research in 2016. She completed her anesthesiology residency at Stanford University, where she was elected and served as Chief Resident during her CA-3 year.

    Since graduating from residency, she stayed at Stanford Anesthesia, joining the Multi-Specialty Division (MSD), and completed an advanced clinical proctorship to join the liver transplant anesthesia group, a small select group of anesthesiologists within the MSD who also care for the patients undergoing liver transplantation.

    Beyond clinical care, Dr. Ruan has authored several publications during her training, including most recently a review of anesthesia for robotic thoracic surgery, and continues to be involved in several scholarly projects. She has an interest in physician well-being, and is currently studying sleep disruption during resident night float. She also serves on the Stanford MD Admissions Panel as both a file reviewer and traditional interviewer.
