Ibrahim Oluwajoba Adisa

Salaar Ahmed

Tazbir Ahmed

BioDr. Tazbir Ahmed is a clinician-scientist with a focus on neuro-ophthalmology and vision science, bringing expertise in translational research, clinical trials, and medical education. He obtained his medical degree and licensure through the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council and achieved board certification in Ophthalmology from the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons.
Motivated by a deep interest in ocular neurodegeneration, inflammation, and metabolic eye disorders, Dr. Ahmed pursued a PhD in Ophthalmology at the University of Tokyo School of Medicine. His doctoral research explored the use of biologics, ocular devices, and experimental models of inflammation to investigate retinal and optic nerve changes in glaucoma, optic neuropathies, and age-related visual decline.
Dr. Ahmed’s multidisciplinary research integrates preclinical disease models, neuroimaging, ocular histochemistry, omics technologies, and electrophysiological methods to elucidate mechanisms of visual pathway dysfunction. He also leverages data science tools to address key issues in ocular public health. -

BioDr. Maryam Amirahmadi is a microsurgery expert and postdoctoral research fellow at Stanford Cardiovascular Institute. She obtained her Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from Hamadan University of Medical Sciences. After more than a year of experience as a Family and Emergency Physician, she spent around 4 years at the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences where she served as a pediatric and adult Cardiac Intensive Care physician and received training in cardiovascular surgery at Namazi and Faghihi hospitals. She then spent a year in the Department of Vascular Surgery at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, serving as a postdoctoral researcher and performing microsurgery on animals, with her research focused on therapeutic strategies to improve neovascularization after limb ischemia. Dr. Amirahmadi joined Stanford Cardiovascular Institute in 2022 where she is now a postdoctoral research fellow under the supervision of Prof. Philip S. Tsao, a renowned cardiovascular scientist. Her research interests and practical expertise include Microsurgery, and the effect of e-cigarette vaping on factors of inflammatory or immune pathways that can subsequently be related to the molecular mechanisms involved in angiogenesis and arteriogenesis in the murine model of hindlimb ischemia, as well as the mechanisms of e-cigarette and nicotine’s effects in augmenting Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) in rodent models of aortic aneurysm, including porcine pancreatic elastase-induced AAA. Dr. Maryam Amirahmadi and her colleagues are currently investigating the transgenerational effects of vaping/nicotine on abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) risk.

Nur Arafeh Dalmau

BioI am currently a postdoc at UCLA and Stanford and an Honorary Fellow at The University of Queensland. I am a marine community ecologist and marine spatial planner. My research focuses on understanding the impacts of marine heatwaves on kelp forest ecosystems. I also research the role of marine protected areas and other effective area-based conservation measures for providing climate resilience and designing networks of climate-smart marine protected areas. I support conservation initiatives with NGOs, parks, and fishers, and teach decision tools such as Marxan. My heart remains in my beautiful Costa Brava, Spain (Catalonia), where I do my best to support conservation. I am a naive dreamer, and I know future generations will dive into healthy kelp forests and thriving marine ecosystems.

Mateus Aragao Esmeraldo

His current research focuses on pediatric neuroradiology and the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) tools to enhance diagnostic and healthcare delivery in neuropediatric populations, with a particular emphasis on magnetic resonance imaging.
Originally from Brazil, Mateus earned his medical degree Magna cum Laude from the University of Ceará - Sobral. He completed his residency in Radiology at the University of São Paulo, where he was awarded the Guerbet-InRad Best Resident Award and received the CBR/ESOR Europe Scholarship for complementary training in Neuroradiology at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, University of Cambridge, during his final year.
Following his residency, Mateus served as a Radiologist in the Ultrasound Section of the Institute of Radiology (InRad) at the University of São Paulo. In this role, he was engaged in clinical and research activities involving Doppler ultrasound and transcranial ultrasound in adult patients. His work was closely aligned with innovation-driven projects in neuroimaging and artificial intelligence, and he also participated in academic and teaching initiatives for medical students and residents. -

Adel Asadi

BioAdel Asadi is a Postdoctoral Scholar at Stanford University's Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, in the Doerr School of Sustainability. He is a member of Stanford Mineral-X initiative, a program dedicated to pioneering sustainable critical minerals exploration to facilitate the transition to green energy. Under the supervision of Prof. Jef Caers, Adel's research is focused on mineral exploration, leveraging data science tools and artificial intelligence algorithms. Through the integrated geological data analysis, his goal is to enhance the predictive accuracy of models for discovering high-grade mineral deposits, thereby enabling decision-making with higher certainty. He is currently collaborating with Ero Copper Corporation, headquartered in Vancouver, Canada, on discovery of new economic copper and nickel deposits in Brazil.
Before joining Stanford University, Adel was a Postdoctoral Scholar at Tufts University in Massachusetts. There, he conducted research on renewable energy systems at the Offshore Wind Energy group. Under Prof. Babak Moaveni’s supervision, in a project funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), he exploited multiple-point geostatistics to simulate offshore wind speed and direction in a multi-variate context, using numerical weather models, satellite/radar remote sensing, observational, and geospatial data.
Adel Asadi earned his PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering with a Geosystems specialization from Tufts University. His doctoral work in the Geohazards Research Lab involved a diverse toolkit (computer vision, machine learning, remote sensing, and geographic information systems) to model earthquake-induced ground failure hazards (soil liquefaction) and map post-earthquake ground failure damages (landslides and liquefaction) on global, regional, and event-specific scales. His dissertation research was funded by the US Geological Survey (USGS) and the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency (NGIA).
During his Master's study in Mining Engineering at Michigan Technological University, under Prof. Snehamoy Chatterjee’s supervision, he developed a novel multiple-point geostatistical simulation algorithm for Earth resources modeling and uncertainty quantification. He also worked on a space mining research project aimed at mapping iron and titanium on the lunar surface using remote sensing data and machine learning algorithms. Additionally, he gained one year of professional experience in the copper mining industry in the US through three internships in Sierrita and Morenci operations at Freeport-McMoRan Inc., Arizona. -

BioDr. Asare-Bediako is a Ghanaian-trained Optometrist who started his career as a Teaching/Research Assistant at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana. He obtained a doctorate degree in Vision Science from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, US, where he worked on animal models of diabetic retinopathy and hematopoiesis in Prof. Maria Grant’s lab. Currently, he is a postdoctoral scholar in Prof. Mary Elizabeth Hartnett’s lab studying retinopathy of prematurity. His current interests lie in understanding mechanisms of angiogenesis in retinopathy of prematurity and diabetic retinopathy.

Amirsaman Ashtari

BioI am a postdoctoral researcher at Stanford University, jointly supervised by Ash Alizadeh MD/PhD and Mohammad Shahrokh Esfahani PhD. I developed several AI solutions for the Computer Vision and Computer Graphic domains during my PhD studies at KAIST and ETH Zurich. My PhD research outcome was recognized by winning the Young Researcher Award, and I was eager to apply all those AI techniques to biological data for cancer therapy. In the Alizadeh and Esfahani labs, I will develop AI solutions and computational tools to better understand the tumor microenvironment. Outside of my research, I enjoy loving my family, playing the piano, and listening to music.

Marwa Atwa

BioMarwa Atwa is a postdoctoral scholar at Nanoscale Prototyping Laboratory (NPL), focusing on developing durable electrodes for hydrogen fuel cells. She got her Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Calgary in 2021 under the supervision of Professor Viola Birss, where she mastered different skills in both material science and electrochemistry fields. During her Ph.D. studies, she developed and tested highly active cathodes for hydrogen fuel cells based on novel nanoporous carbon films made from uniform and bimodal porous structures. Before joining the University of Calgary, Marwa received her M. Sc. And B. Sc. degrees in Chemistry from Suez Canal University, where her research focused on protecting low-carbon steel from corrosion in an acidic medium by applying various nanoengineered metal and alloys coatings using electroplating technique.

Aya Awad

BioI am a postdoctoral fellow at the Stanford Cancer Institute in the laboratory of Steven Artandi, where my research focuses on telomere biology and telomerase regulation in cancer. My work integrates molecular genetics, biochemistry, and cell-based approaches to understand how dysregulation of telomere maintenance promotes genome instability and tumorigenesis.
I received my PhD in Genetics from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where my doctoral research examined the molecular mechanisms by which telomerase activity and telomere structure are regulated at chromosome ends. Through mechanistic studies combining patient-derived cells and molecular analyses, I contributed to defining how telomere elongation and overhang dynamics are controlled.
At Stanford, my research centers on identifying regulatory pathways that control telomerase RNA maturation and activity, with a particular interest in discovering and characterizing small-molecule inhibitors targeting the telomerase pathway as potential cancer therapeutics. More broadly, I aim to translate fundamental insights in telomere biology into strategies for selectively targeting telomere maintenance mechanisms in cancer. -

Florian Bach

BioI'm a molecular infection biologist by training, but shifted my focus from pathogens to hosts for my graduate research. During my PhD with Phil Spence in Edinburgh I studied both falciparum and vivax malaria using controlled human (re)infection models, collaborating closely with the groups of Simon Draper and Angela Minassian in Oxford. As a hybrid bioinformatician and experimentalist, I love systems immunology for answering complex questions about human health. For my postdoc, I study in how the human immune response to malaria evolves in infants as they become reinfected and age. I'm also interested in how such early-life immunological events, malaria and beyond, may affect vaccine responses and immune development later in life. I address this question by making use of a longitudinal study cohort of infants receiving monthly chemoprevention in Eastern Uganda, together with our collaborators at UC San Francisco and IDRC Uganda.

Currently, my work aims to establish strategies to reduce the risk of relapse after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation without exacerbating graft-versus-host disease or interfering with donor stem cell engraftment.
