Reviel Netz
Patrick Suppes Professor of Greek Mathematics and Astronomy and Professor, by courtesy, of Philosophy and of History
BioNetz's main field is the history of pre-modern mathematics. His research involves the wider issues of the history of cognitive practices, e.g. visual culture, the history of the book, and literacy and numeracy. His books from Cambridge University Press include The Shaping of Deduction in Greek Mathematics: a Study in Cognitive History (1999, Runciman Award), The Transformation of Early Mediterranean Mathematics: From Problems to Equations (2004), and Ludic Proof: Greek Mathematics and the Alexandrian Aesthetic (2009).
He is also the author of the translation and commentary of the works of Archimedes, also with CUP, a three-volume work of which the first has appeared, The Two Books on Sphere and Cylinder (2004). Together with Nigel Wilson, he prepares the edition of the recently rediscovered Archimedes Palimpsest (evidence from which already gave rise to two major discoveries: a text showing actual infinity in Archimedes, published in SCIAMVS 2001-2002, and a text showing, possibly, combinatorics in Archimedes, published in SCIAMVS 2004.) Two volumes, Transcription and Critical Edition, are forthcoming from the British Academy, of which the transcription is already available online. His popular book on the Archimedes Palimpsest Project, The Archimedes Codex, (co-authored with William Noel, Neumann Prize) was published by Widenfeld and Nicolson, 2007, and is translated into 20 languages.
Related to his research in cognitive history is his interest in ecological history, and he has published Barbed Wire: an Ecology of Modernity (Wesleyan University Press, 2004, finalist for PEN award). Reviel Netz is also a poet (Adayin Bahuc, 1999 Shufra: Tel Aviv, AMOS prize), one of a group of Hebrew poets active today whose work revives formal verse and he is the co-author, together with his wife, the Israeli author Maya Arad, of a collection of essays on Israeli literature, Positions of Stress (Meqom Hata'am, 2008 Axuzat Bayit: Tel Aviv). -

Dr. Lesley Park is a co-founding director of the Stanford AHEaD summer research program for college students from underrepresented and historically excluded groups in the health sciences. She is also the Executive Director of the VACS consortium, an international collaboration of methodologists, clinicians, and trainees who utilize the rich and valuable data from the Veterans Health Administration to do impactful research. VACS has been at the forefront of research to understand aging with HIV to improve patient care, particularly with respect to alcohol and other substance use, physiologic frailty, and polypharmacy. In recent years, the VACS mission has expanded to encompass other foci, including genomic research and most recently COVID-19.
Within the VACS, Dr. Park oversees cancer and COVID-19 outcomes research in persons with HIV/AIDS (PWH). Her research experience has focused on the intersection of cancer and HIV, examining epidemiologic methods for cancer research, cancer incidence trends, and cancer (particularly hepatocellular carcinoma) prevention in PWH. Dr. Park is an experienced epidemiologist, skilled in "big data" observational research, survival analysis, and SAS programming. She teaches courses in computing, data management, and epidemiologic analysis methods. Her prior experience includes research at the Yale School of Medicine and at the Center for Biostatistics in AIDS Research (CBAR) at the Harvard School of Public Health.
The International Workshop on HIV and Hepatitis Observational Databases (IWHOD) is an established scientific forum for the appropriate application of real-world data to emerging issues in infectious disease. Dr. Park leads the IWHOD scientific committee of internationally reknowned experts in infectious disease and is responsible for administrative and scientific coordination of IWHOD.
Previously, Dr. Park was one of the leaders of the Stanford Center for Population Health Sciences (PHS). PHS aims to improve the health of populations by bringing together diverse disciplines and data to understand and address social, environmental, behavioral, and biological factors. She oversaw all of the educational and training initiatives at PHS and was one of the founding directors of the PHS Data Center and PHS Postdoctoral Fellowship program. -

Jessica Ng, MD
Clinical Assistant Professor, Adult Neurology
BioDr. Ng is a board-certified, fellowship-trained neurologist with Stanford Health Care Movement Disorders Center and Stanford Health Care Neurology in Pleasanton. She is also a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Neurology and Neurological Sciences at Stanford University School of Medicine.
Dr. Ng provides comprehensive care for people with movement disorders. She diagnoses and treats a wide range of movement disorders, including ataxia, atypical parkinsonism, dystonia, essential tremor, Huntington’s disease, and Parkinson’s disease. She specializes in assessing patients for minimally invasive treatments, including botulinum toxin therapy, deep brain stimulation (DBS), and MR-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS).
Dr. Ng’s research interests include assessing treatment and diagnostic tools for Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders.
Dr. Ng has presented to her peers at international and national meetings, including the International Congress of Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders, the American Academy of Neurology, and the American Epilepsy Society. She is also a passionate clinician educator who has given lectures to medical students, physician assistant students, residents, and community physicians.
Dr. Ng is a member of the American Academy of Neurology and the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society. -
Madelena Ng
Postdoctoral Scholar, Biomedical Ethics
BioDr. Madelena Ng is a Postdoctoral Scholar and NHGRI T32 ELSI Research Fellow at the Laurie J. Girand Center for Biomedical Ethics (GCBE) at Stanford. Dr. Ng is an applied health scientist whose work evaluates the real-world impact of emerging technologies on people and society. Her research has consistently shown that technological solutions alone are insufficient in addressing the shortcomings inherent in the biomedical research ecosystem.
Prior to Dr. Ng's appointment at GCBE, she was a Postdoctoral Scholar at the Stanford Division in Computation Medicine leading foundational work in AI ethics, governance, and responsible innovation. She will further her training in ELSI research at the intersection of generative biology, multisector research practices, and regulation. As generative AI continues to advance rapidly, she aims to embed ethics into the core of health AI development, operations, and decision-making. -

Professor Billy Ng is currently a Visiting Associate Professor at Stanford University. He completed his postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School and the University of Oxford, following his Ph.D. and B.Sc. (1st Hons) in Chemistry from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). During his graduate studies, he was also a Fulbright Scholar at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He was recognized as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum and received the Academic Young Investigator Award from the American Chemical Society (ACS) Division of Organic Chemistry.
Professor Ng’s research interests are chemical biology, drug discovery, and carbohydrate chemistry. He uses chemical and biological tools to develop novel small molecules for the treatment of various diseases, including cancers, infectious and neurodegenerative diseases. He has co-authored more than 30 papers in prestigious journals such as Science, Nature Chemical Biology, Molecular Cell, J. Am. Chem. Soc., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., and ACS Central Science. His research has been funded by diverse sources, including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, US National Academy of Medicine (NAM), the Innovation and Technology Fund (ITF), and Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong. -
Christine Ngaruiya
Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine (Adult Clinical Academic)
BioChristine Ngaruiya, MD, MSc, DTM&H is the Director of the Stanford EM International Global and Population Health Section (SEMI), and Associate Professor, in the Stanford Department of Emergency Medicine (DEM).
Previously she was on faculty in the Department of Emergency Medicine (DEM) at Yale University. She completed the Global Health and International Emergency Medicine fellowship in the Yale DEM in 2015, while also matriculating with a Master of Science and Diploma in Tropical Medicine and International Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Her research interests center on: noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), barriers to care, community-based participatory research and implementation science with a particular focus on Africa.
Some past honors include: the Emergency Medicine Resident’s Association (EMRA) Augustine D’Orta Award for outstanding community and grassroots involvement, Harambe Entrepreneur Alliance Associate and the 2014 Harambe Pfizer Fellow Award for social entrepreneurship, the 2016 University of Nebraska Outstanding International Alumnus award, the 2018 Young Physician award of the Global Emergency Medicine Academy at the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine, the 2019 Yale School of Medicine Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine for clinical excellence and compassionate care, being selected as 1 of 30 WomenLift Health Women Leaders in Global Health in 2021, 1 of 25 US Schmidt Futures International Strategy Forum fellows in 2023, and as 1 of 100 National Academy of Sciences US-Africa Frontiers in STEM fellows in 2024.
She has held several national and international leadership positions including with: the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine, the Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH) as current co-chair of the Research Committee (2024-2026), the African Federation for Emergency Medicine (AFEM) and WomenLift Health. She was also a founding member of the Yale Network for Global Noncommunicable Disease (NGN). Her work has been funded by Yale University, the NIH (top 100 in Emergency Medicine), Gates Foundation, World Bank, USAID, the American Psychiatric Association, among others. She has served on a number of NIH panels related to global NCD topics, and has lectured both nationally and internationally on the same. Currently, she is a member of a World Health Organization (WHO) group developing an implementation science research agenda for global NCDs.
She is the global NCD section editor for PLOS Global Public Health, and also a fervent writer in the non-traditional sphere on global NCDs. To that end, she was selected as one of twenty Yale Public Voice Fellows for 2015-2016 from across campus with more than 20 publications in outlets such as Time, Huffington Post, Medium, and The Hill on the topic. -
Chantal T. Nguyen, MD
Clinical Assistant Professor, Orthopaedic Surgery
BioDr. Chantal T. Nguyen is a board-certified, fellowship-trained sports medicine physiatrist with Stanford Health Care. She is also a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Stanford University School of Medicine.
Dr. Nguyen cares for athletes and individuals with bone, joint, muscle, and nerve injuries, including acute and chronic pain conditions. She specializes in providing image-guided injections and interventional procedures to relieve pain and improve function. Prioritizing each patient’s goals and lifestyle, Dr. Nguyen creates personalized treatment plans to help patients return to the activities they enjoy.
Dr. Nguyen’s research focuses on sports medicine, musculoskeletal injuries, and peripheral nerve disorders. She also investigates the use of musculoskeletal ultrasound and image-guided procedures to improve care for a range of orthopaedic and nerve conditions. She has a particular interest in studying injury patterns, prevention, and clinical management related to adaptive athletes. Through her work, Dr. Nguyen aims to make physical activity and sports more accessible and equitable for all populations.
Dr. Nguyen has published her research in leading peer-reviewed journals, including Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Current Sports Medicine Reports, and American Journal of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She has presented her research at national and international conferences, including meetings of the International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine, the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AAPM&R), and the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM).
Dr. Nguyen is a member of AAPM&R and the Association of Academic Physiatrists (AAP). She is also a member of societies within her subspecialty, including AANEM and American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM).
