Thien Crisanto

BioThien Crisanto (she/her) serves as the Undergraduate Advising Director in the Academic Advising Office (VPUE). Prior to this, she was an Academic Coach at the Center for Teaching and Learning.
She holds a Ph.D. in Plant Biology from UC Berkeley where she specialized in bioenergy, genetics, and algal photosynthesis research. As an undergraduate transfer student, she majored in Cellular and Molecular Biology while conducting experiments related to marine solutions for climate change and bioengineering. Before her scientific pursuits, Thien earned an AA from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising and worked as a fashion designer and merchandiser.
Her dedication to working with students originated from her commitment to enhancing retention and diversity in education, which began when she started peer mentoring during her senior year as an undergraduate. She enjoys collaborating with Stanford students to foster resilience and help them discover their identities and passions.
In her free time, Thien enjoys road-tripping with her animals, paddle boarding, long-distance roller skating, music composition, costume crafting, and surfing in her native California. Thien dedicates her volunteer time to ocean health initiatives and making surfing more accessible to people of color, the queer community, and womxn. She is originally from Orange County and has lived in 4 different regions of the state (her favorite is the far Northern Coast). She is mixed-raced and can speak Vietnamese.

Deborah Stevenson
Associate Vice Provost and Dean of Academic Advising, Academic Advising Operations
BioDeborah comes to Stanford from Gonzaga University, where she served as the founding Director of the Center for Student Academic Success. Deborah created the Center to be a one-stop-shop of integrated essential academic services and resources such as academic advising, supplemental learning support, and disability services. In addition to providing leadership and strategy for student success, Deborah taught first-year experience and academic recovery courses, provided consultation to faculty on course design and classroom management, and served as a regional accreditation evaluator.
As a first-generation college student who struggled mightily during her undergraduate education, Deborah is naturally drawn to the work of student success in higher education. She is driven by her desire to create equitable and adaptive learning environments where students are empowered to be active and independent learners.
Deborah holds an undergraduate degree in political science and a master’s degree in organizational leadership, both from Gonzaga. -

Diana Suedbeck
Assistant Director of New Student Programs, Academic Advising Operations
BioDiana serves as the Assistant Director of New Student Programs in VPUE's Academic Advising. In her role, she is responsible for implementing the Approaching Stanford program, which provides support to first-year and transfer students as they transition to undergraduate life at Stanford. Being one of the first points of contact for these incoming students, Diana is focused on making sure they feel well-equipped to begin their academic experience at the university. Working alongside her New Student Programs team, Diana also supports the implementation of New Student Orientation for incoming students each fall.
Prior to Stanford, Diana worked in the non-profit sector after receiving a Sociology degree from Bethel University, a small liberal arts college in St. Paul, Minnesota. Outside of her organizational development work, Diana's passion for higher education grew as she coached women's lacrosse for Bethel's club team. -

Wallace, from Inglewood, CA, is a Ph.D. student in the Graduate School of Education in the Race, Inequality, and Language in Education, History of Education, and Sociology of Education programs. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Rhetoric and African American Studies from the University of California, Berkeley, and a master’s degree in International Education Policy Analysis from Stanford University. As a Black Education Studies scholar, Darion’s research draws upon Black Studies, Sociology, and History, while employing mixed methods, to interrogate the ways K-12 American schools cohere logics of (anti)blackness and structure the life and educational outcomes of Black students across temporal and spatial bounds. Moreover, he is interested in how abolitionist praxes, pedagogies, and epistemologies rooted in the Black radical and intellectual tradition have and continue to serve a liberatory function in the project of Black education. To this aim, Darion is interested in partnering with public schools and libraries to develop secondary students’ historical literacies and archival skills to help them better understand the localized sociopolitical context that undergirds their lived experience. Previously, he has worked with the Learning Policy Institute as a Research and Policy Associate, the Service Employees International Union as an Organizer, and San Francisco State University as an Africana Studies Lecturer on Black Masculinities and Black Social Science.
