Ali Hashemi
Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Electrical Engineering
BioI am an NSERC Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Electrical Engineering of Stanford University, where I work with Professor John Cioffi and Professor Andrea Goldsmith.
I was born in Qaemshahr, Mazandaran, Iran. I received my Ph.D. degree from McGill University under the supervision of Professor Warren J. Gross in 2019, the M.Sc. degree from the University of Alberta under the supervision of Professor Behrouz Nowrouzian in 2011, and the B.Sc. degree from Sharif University of Technology in 2009, all in Electrical Engineering. I worked as a software developer at iHear Unicare Inc. from 2011 to 2012, and as a design engineer at Rehabtronics Inc. from 2012 to 2014, during which I developed intelligent algorithms for medical devices.
My research interests include machine learning for communications, channel coding for 5G and beyond, and hardware architecture design and optimization. I am the recepient of a Best Student Paper Award at ISCAS 2016. -
Guénolé Lallement
Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Electrical Engineering
BioGuénolé Lallement received the M.Sc. degree (Hons.) in analog and digital IC design from Imperial College London, London, U.K., in 2016, and the Engineering Diploma degree in electronic and computer science from Télécom ParisTech, Paris, France. In 2019, he completed his Ph.D. degree with the IM2NP Institute, Aix-Marseille University and STMicroelectronics, Crolles, France, under the co-supervision of Prof. J.-L. Autran and Dr. F. Abouzeid.
At Imperial College London and under the supervision of Dr. P. Georgiou, he worked on creating bio-inspired CMOS DNA microarray. This project received the Hertha Ayrtan Centenary Prize for the best M.Sc. project with significant original contribution to the topic area. His thesis research interests include the extension of SoCs mission capabilities by offering near-zero-power performances and enabling continuous functionality for IoT systems.
In 2020, he started a postdoctoral position at Stanford with Prof. Subhasish Mitra and Prof. Boris Murmann. His research focuses on system-level design and optimal computing organization - 3D vs 2D - for specific computing domains using emerging technologies. -
Mohamadali Malakoutian
Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Electrical Engineering
BioMohamadali is an experienced Postdoctoral researcher at Stanford University with a demonstrated history of working in high-power high-frequency transistors, all-diamond diodes, and diamond integration for thermal management, III-V wide bandgap semiconductors, integrated microsystems including MEMS/NEMS devices, and microfluidic channels. He is an expert in fab process design-integration, process and device modeling (Athena, Atlas), thin-film deposition techniques (Evaporation, Sputtering, PVD, ALD, and PECVD), dry etching (ICP/RIE etching of Diamond, AlN, SiN, Al2O3, SiO2), wet etching (bulk Si micromachining), and single-crystalline/polycrystalline diamond growth. He is currently working on the growth, fabrication, and characteristics of GaN HEMTs with diamond integrated for thermal management to solve the self-heating problem of mm-wave devices.

Julien Martel

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsI am interested in novel sensors coupled with processing elements "in-pixel" that can produce other kinds of visual information than "conventional" cameras. I like the idea of designing vision systems down from the understanding of physics and the transduction of light in silicon up to the development of algorithmic frameworks that can exploit the peculiarities of these new vision devices.

Daniel J O'Shea

BioI am currently pursuing a PhD in Neuroscience with Krishna Shenoy in the Neural Prosthetics Systems lab. I am interested the neural basis of movement and motor feedback control. Towards this end, I am engaged in collaborative research employing multielectrode array recordings, optogenetic and electrical stimulation, haptic feedback devices, and high dimensional modeling of population dynamics.

Yifan (Evan) Peng

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsMy research interests ride across the research advances in optics/photonics, computer graphics, and computer vision. In particular, a core route is to incorporate optics and algorithms to enable new imaging modalities, including the research on building computational cameras, computational displays, VRAR solutions, etc.

Daniel Riedel
Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Electrical Engineering
BioDaniel is currently a postdoctoral researcher at Stanford University working on the integration of optically active spin defect centers in diamond into photonic networks in the Nanoscale and Quantum Photonics Lab lead by Prof. Jelena Vuckovic.
Daniel's research focuses on the investigation of color centers in silicon carbide (SiC) and diamond and to study their synergies with various photonic platforms with the goal to create scalable building blocks of a quantum network operating at liquid helium temperature. He received his MSc in Physics with distinction in 2012 from University of Wurzburg in Germany and his PhD in Physics summa cum laude in 2017 from University of Basel. Before joining Stanford Daniel worked as a postdoc at California Institute of Technology on developing hybrid photonic networks for the integration of rare earth dopants in complex oxides (2019-2020).
For his pioneering PhD research on coupling nitrogen-vacancy centers in diamond to tunable microcavities, Daniel received several awards, e.g. from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the Swiss Micro- and Nanotechnology Network and was invited to present at International conferences (e.g. SPIE in San Diego, CLEO Pacific Rim in Hong Kong). His postdoctoral research has been supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation with two subsequent grants.

Tracy Schloemer
Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Electrical Engineering
BioTracy H. Schloemer earned her B.S. in chemistry and M.A. in educational studies from the University of Michigan. She taught high school chemistry in Denver, Colorado as a Knowles Teaching Initiative fellow and served as a lead contributor to ChemEdX. She earned her Ph.D. in applied chemistry from the Colorado School of Mines in 2019 where she focused on organic semiconductor design for improved operational durability of perovskite solar cells under professor Alan Sellinger and in collaboration with the National Renewable Energy Lab. Her current research focuses on the control and application of excitons in the Congreve Lab. Her interests outside the lab include hiking and cheering on University of Michigan “sportsball”.

Christopher Torng
Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Electrical Engineering
BioChristopher Torng is a Postdoctoral Researcher in Electrical Engineering at Stanford University working with Mark Horowitz. He received his Ph.D. degree in 2019, M.S. degree in 2016, and B.S degree in 2012 in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Cornell University. Chris's current research interests are in specialized systems that are co-designed across software, architecture, and VLSI to unify emerging applications with emerging technologies. His activities have resulted in a selection as a Rising Star in Computer Architecture (2018) by Georgia Tech and an IEEE MICRO Top Pick from Hot Chips (2018). He has also been involved with six research test chips that support his research, and he was the project or university lead for three of the chips.

Mohammad Asif Zaman

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsMy research focuses on trapping and controlled manipulation of sub-micron sized particles. The work included modeling, fabrication and testing of chips that employ optical forces and/or dielectrophoretic forces to trap and transport nanoparticles. Our goal is to develop lab-on-a-chip systems for biomedical and chemical applications.

Ke Zeng

BioKe Zeng received his Ph.D. and MS degree in the Electrical Engineering Department of SUNY-Buffalo. His current research is focused on fabricating various high power/performance electronic devices based on GaN and Ga2O3, especially utilizing various novel edge termination techniques and device structures, as well as understanding the fundamental physics underlying these devices.
