    BioBryan Bohman is Associate Chief Medical Officer for Workforce Health and Wellness. Additional roles include Clinical Professor of Medicine and of Anesthesiology, Co-Director of the Clinical Effectiveness Leadership Training (CELT) program and Senior Advisor to the WellMD Center.

    Bryan trained at Stanford in internal medicine and anesthesiology. After two decades of clinical practice in community-based anesthesiology, he served as SHC's first elected Chief of Staff from 2008-2011.

    As Chief of Staff, Dr. Bohman established Stanford’s wellness committee and subsequently shepherded the founding of its WellMD Center in 2015, serving as the Center’s interim Director until 2017. The Center’s aim is to advance faculty, trainee and care team wellbeing across Stanford Medicine while also serving as an international leader of scholarship in occupational wellbeing. Bryan also led the establishment in 2014 of the CELT program, which continues to serve as a driver of clinical quality improvement across Stanford Medicine.

    Dr. Bohman’s primary areas of interest include occupational wellbeing, process improvement, and the reciprocal influences between quality improvement, healthcare system performance, and the occupational wellbeing of healthcare personnel.

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsMy overall research goal is to advance clinical practice by providing anesthesiologists with data to most effectively maintain cerebral blood flow in the perioperative period.
    I am interested in the effect of the autonomic nervous system on cerebral blood flow regulation.
    I intend to combine regional anesthetic techniques and noninvasive bedside cerebral blood flow monitoring to understand the effect of the sympathetic system on cerebral blood flow.
    A secondary goal is to apply this new knowledge to investigate whether cervical sympathetic blocks improve long term neurological outcomes.

    BioAs a young physician at Louisiana State University, Dr. Bonilla focused on the Clinical Management of HIV/AIDS and HCV, two neglected and stigmatized diseases for which effective therapies were in their infancy. While learning the clinical aspects of the two diseases, Dr. Bonilla saw a need to create and organize a support community to promote understanding and management of the conditions. Subsequently, he went to Summa Health System in Akron, Ohio, and he continued his work where he specialized in HIV/HCV as well as in Infectious Diseases Clinical Practice. In addition to teaching medical residents and students, Dr. Bonilla participated in numerous clinical trials and developed clinical research projects. Furthermore, he led the Infection Renal Transplant Program, HIV and HCV clinics, and he participated in several cooperative studies with Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Bonilla’s interest in academia led him to the University Of Pittsburgh Medical Center where he was an Assistant Professor, Clinician, and Medical Educator in the Department of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases. Due to his interest in cytokines and immunological responses, Dr. Bonilla became a researcher at ImmunoScience Inc., a biotechnology company in California that works to develop a therapeutic HIV vaccine. Dr. Bonilla’s experience of treating HIV/HCV combined with his interest in inflammatory response is the driving force behind his desire to understand ME/CFS. Dr. Bonilla is a strong patient advocate, and he believes in integrated care—care in which physicians communicate and coordinate efforts to deliver the best medical outcome for patients. His ME/CFS patients are his inspiration, and he is committed to continuing research to seek answers to their health challenges.

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsWe are intereseted in the interaction between the protozoan parasite Toxoplasma gondii and its mammalian host. We use a combination of molecular and genetic tools to understand how this obligate intracellular parasite can invade almost any cell it encounters, how it co-opts a host cell once inside and how it evades the immune response to produce a life-long, persistent infection.

    BioDr. Amber Borucki is an anesthesiologist and pain medicine specialist whose focus is chronic pain management in children and adolescents/young adults. She focuses on reducing or managing pain from chronic conditions or pain that occurs after surgery. Dr. Borucki completed her medical degree at Rush Medical College in Chicago, IL. She attended anesthesia residency at the University of Chicago. She completed a fellowship in pediatric anesthesiology at Boston Children's Hospital as well as a combined adult/pediatric pain medicine fellowship at Boston Children's Hospital, Brigham Women's Hospital, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Dr. Borucki worked for one year in private practice in anesthesiology in Reno, Nevada. Dr. Borucki then worked for 5 years as a pediatric anesthesiologist and pain medicine specialist and was the Director of the Pediatric Anesthesia Service at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital. Dr. Borucki transitioned to Stanford Medicine Children's Health in May 2023 and her clinical duties include working in the Emeryville satellite pediatric pain clinic, pediatric operating room, and pediatric pain inpatient service.

    Notable accomplishments include developing and co-chairing the UCSF Benioff Transbay Pediatric Pain Management Committee, development of the pediatric establishment of an adolescent/young adult transitional pain clinic, and serving on the Bridge to One Bay project to standardize pain care across all UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital locations. Dr. Borucki also was instrumental in helping UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital obtain ChildKind designation, a prestigious designation for a hospital indicating that it prioritizes pediatric pain care.

    Dr. Borucki is a member of the medical advisory council for the Make a Wish Bay Area chapter. She is currently serving on the Board of Directors for the Society for Pediatric Pain Medicine (SPPM) and also the associate program director for the upcoming 11th annual SPPM meeting. Dr. Borucki has also served on several committees through the American Society of Anesthesiologists and California Society of Anesthesiologists. Dr. Borucki served as an editorial board member for Paediatric and Neonatal Pain.

    BioDr. Boutin works clinically as a musculoskeletal radiologist interpreting a broad array of diagnostic imaging examinations, most frequently MRI, CT, sonography, and radiography.

    The clinical focus for Dr. Boutin is MRI of joints, bones, and muscles, as well as adding value to routine radiology exams by translating advancements from fields of artificial intelligence and imaging informatics.

    These advancements include enhancing routine imaging exams to help promote physical function, quality of life, and health span in our patients. Because the worldwide population of people > 60 years of age is projected to double by 2050, there is a crucial need for improvements in the accurate and efficient management of derangements associated with biological aging, including osteoporosis, sarcopenia, and visceral adiposity.

    Dr. Boutin is a leader in the field of musculoskeletal imaging. He has served as Chair of the Musculoskeletal Imaging Program Committee for the largest medical meeting in the world (RSNA) and is President-elect of the Society of Academic Bone Radiologists. Core professional values include an emphasis on outstanding quality, compassion, safety, and integrity.

    Dr. Boutin was introduced to Orthopaedics at an early age by his father and older brother -- both orthopaedists. After earning undergraduate and graduate degrees at Stanford University, Dr. Boutin completed advanced fellowship training in Musculoskeletal Imaging at the University of California, San Diego, and worked on the faculty at Harvard Medical School.

    Dr. Boutin is dedicated to excellence in musculoskeletal imaging. Dr. Boutin has written over 100 peer-reviewed articles and textbook chapters. He has also served as Guest Editor for 2 volumes of the 'Orthopaedic Clinics of North America', and volumes of ‘Seminars in Musculoskeletal Radiology’. Dr. Boutin also has served for many years as a Peer Reviewer for premier radiology journals.

    Dr. Boutin is a popular invited lecturer for Continuing Medical Education Courses, such as those at the annual meetings of the 'Radiological Society of North America', the 'International Skeletal Society', the 'Arthroscopy Association of North America', the 'American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons', and the 'International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine'. He is also a repeat lecturer at the prestigious Orthopaedic Imaging course in Davos, Switzerland.

    My doctoral research in Neurobiology at Duke University School of Medicine focused on the biology of emotional expression in speech and music. My postdoctoral work at the University of Vienna focused on bioacoustics, interpersonal synchrony, and social bonding. I have completed certificate courses in Cognitive Neuroscience and Translational Medicine, as well as undergraduate degrees in Biological Psychology and Neurophilosophy.

    I have authored 40 scientific articles in top journals including Science, PNAS, Molecular Psychiatry, Translational Psychiatry, PLoS Biology, Trends in Cognitive Science, and Physics of Life Reviews. My work has been supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health, the Austrian Science Foundation, the Faculty of Life Sciences at the University of Vienna, and the Wu Tsai Neuroscience Institute at Stanford University.

    BioHeather E Boynton is an emergency physician at Pioneers Memorial Hospital in Brawley, California and an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor at the Stanford University School of Medicine in the Department of Primary Care and Population Health.

    Dr. Boynton trained in emergency medicine at UC San Diego, where she served as chief resident. She attended medical school at Georgetown University and also has a master’s degree in International Security Studies from the School of Foreign Service. She completed her undergraduate studies at Princeton University.

    As an emergency physician practicing in a rural, cross-border community she hopes to challenge and engage rotating students to provide patient-centered care in a resource-limited setting.

    BioDr. Brady is a fellowship-trained nephrologist with board certification in nephrology and in internal medicine. He is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Nephrology, at Stanford University School of Medicine.

    He provides care at the Stanford Health Care Boswell Kidney Clinic as well as the Stanford Health Care Kidney Clinic in Emeryville.

    Dr. Brady is particularly interested in the management of patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). He also treats end-stage kidney disease, hypertension, kidney stones, glomerular disease and other kidney related conditions.

    His research in value-based health care focuses on methods to improve care delivery for patients with CKD and end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). He has received funding for his research from sources including the National Institutes of Health.

    Dr. Brady has published his research findings in JAMA Internal Medicine the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, and elsewhere.

    He has presented invited talks on high-value care delivery to policy makers on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. He also has made presentations to his peers at national, regional, and local meetings of kidney disease specialists.

    He has delivered lectures to the Institute for Healthcare Improvement National Forum, Satellite Healthcare Home Dialysis Academy, and other meetings. He has shared his insights in presentations to faculty and students in the Division of Nephrology at Peking Union Medical College in Beijing, China.

    Dr. Brady is a member of the American Society of Nephrology, International Society of Nephrology, and American College of Physicians.

    BioProfessor Brandeau is the Coleman F. Fung Professor in the School of Engineering and a Professor of Health Policy (by Courtesy). Her research focuses on the development of applied mathematical and economic models to support health policy decisions. Her recent work has focused on HIV prevention and treatment programs, programs to control the US opioid epidemic, and policies for minimizing the spread of infectious diseases, including COVID-19. She has served as Principal Investigator or Co-PI on a broad range of funded research projects.

    She is a Fellow of the Institute for Operations Research and Management Science (INFORMS) and a member of the Omega Rho International Honor Society for Operations Research and Management Science. From INFORMS she has received the President’s Award (recognizing important contributions to the welfare of society), the Pierskalla Prize (in 2001 and 2017, for research excellence in health care management science), the Philip McCord Morse Lectureship Award, and the Award for the Advancement of Women in Operations Research and the Management Sciences. She has also received the Award for Excellence in Application of Pharmacoeconomics and Health Outcomes Research from the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research, and a Presidential Young Investigator Award from the National Science Foundation, among other awards. Professor Brandeau earned a BS in Mathematics and an MS in Operations Research from MIT, and a PhD in Engineering-Economic Systems from Stanford.

    BioDr. Braunschweig is a board-certified family medicine doctor. She provides care for the entire family and welcomes patients of all ages.

    Her special interests include women’s health, children’s health, and mental health. For each patient, she develops a personalized plan of care. Her goal is to help every individual achieve the best possible health and quality of life.

    Another special interest of Dr. Braunschweig is medical education. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Primary Care and Population Health, at Stanford University School of Medicine.

    The training of health care professionals in low-resource settings is one of her key research interests. Another is reproductive justice.

    Dr. Braunschweig grew up in San Jose. Prior to medical school, Dr. Braunschweig studied music and earned a PhD in musicology from UC Berkeley. Her interest in women’s health led her to volunteer as a birth doula at San Francisco General Hospital.

    There, she became passionate about maternal and child health, and was inspired to go to medical school to become a doctor.

    Outside of her clinical practice and research, she enjoys spending time with her family, going for walks, and trying out new recipes.

    BioChristiane Brems, PhD, ABPP, RYT-500, C-IAYT, is the Founding Director of YogaX, a Special Initiative in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science. She received her PhD in Clinical Psychology from Oklahoma State University in 1987. Dr. Brems is licensed as a psychologist in several US states and board-certified as a clinical psychologist by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP). She is a registered yoga teacher (E-RYT500) and certified C-IAYT yoga therapist. She is also certified in Interactive Guided Imagery.

    She began her career in academia at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. She then served on faculty at the University of Alaska Anchorage for 23 years, where she held a variety of leadership positions, including as (Co-Founding) Director of the Center for Behavioral Health Research and Services, (Co-Founding) Director of the PhD Program in Clinical-Community Psychology, and Interim Vice Provost for Research and Dean of the Graduate School. Most recently, she served for nearly six years as Dean and Professor of the School of Graduate Psychology (SGP) at Pacific University Oregon.

    Dr. Brems has worked for decades as an applied researcher and clinical practitioner with particular interests in health promotion, rural healthcare delivery, and all things yoga. Her work has been funded by grants and contracts from the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration, and local and State of Alaska funding sources. She has shared her work extensively in over 120 peer-reviewed journal articles, 100s of technical reports, and several books, including the Comprehensive Guide to Child Psychotherapy (now in its 4th edition), Dealing with Challenges in Psychotherapy and Counseling, Basic Skills in Counseling and Psychotherapy, and others. Dr. Brems is committed to excellence in and integration of clinical services, teaching, consultation, and research.

    Dr. Brems has integrated yoga, mindfulness, complementary interventions, and self-care strategies in her work as a consultant, author, dean, teacher, researcher, mentor, supervisor, colleague, and service provider. She values these practices as crucial aspects of day-to-day professional and personal life and seeks to enhance access to them for all who can benefit.

    BioKeri Brenner, MD, MPA is Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at Stanford University. As a palliative care physician and psychiatrist, her clinical work includes inpatient palliative care consultations at Stanford. She was inspired to pursue palliative care after serving at Mother Teresa’s Home for the Dying in Kolkata, India on multiple occasions. Dr. Brenner’s scholarly interests and research focus on the psychological elements of palliative care, specifically psychodynamic and existential issues in patients with serious illness. Dr. Brenner completed her medical degree at Yale School of Medicine, where she received honors for her thesis on the phenomenology of suffering with terminal illness. She also has a Master in Public Administration from Harvard’s Kennedy School. Dr. Brenner completed adult psychiatry residency at Massachusetts General Hospital and palliative care fellowship at Harvard. She served on the University of Notre Dame Board of Trustees (2005-2008), and was awarded funding through Harvard’s Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study (2019). In her personal life, Dr. Brenner enjoys the beautiful outdoors of Northern California with her husband and four young children.

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsOne gene can lead to the production of many different RNA isoforms via mechanisms such as alternative promoter usage, splicing, and polyadenylation. The functional significance of many of these isoforms, their impact on cell physiology, and their regulation remain mostly controversial. Understanding the functional consequences of transcript heterogeneity will improve our understanding of gene expression regulation, broadening our ability to intervene when mutations that interfere with this regulation cause human disease.
    My goal is to become an independent researcher leading an academic lab that focuses on better understanding human tissue-specific post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression and developing mechanism-based therapeutics. My general strategy is to study the function of regulatory genes and their deregulation in human disease. My specific approach is to understand the molecular mechanisms by which disease-causing mutations alter the gene function and lead to human disease. My hypothesis is that a detailed understanding of the relationship between the gene's molecular function and the disease mechanism will allow the development of first-in-class, personalized therapeutic strategies that target the disease mechanisms rather than manage symptoms independently of disease etiology.

We have developed novel computerized technology to measure fine, limb and postural movement. With these we are measuring local field potentials in basal ganglia nuclei in patients with Parkinson's disease and dystonian and correlating brain signalling with motor behavior.

Throughout his career, Italo has been at the frontlines of social medicine and health equity. Italo is the current Chief Impact Officer of T.R.A.P. Medicine, a barbershop-based wellness initiative that leverages the cultural capital of barbershops to address the physical and emotional health of Black men and boys. He is a former board member of the Tennessee Health Care Campaign, an organization that spearheads statewide advocacy efforts in support of the Affordable Care Act and Medicare/Medicaid Reform. Italo trained at Jacobi Medical Center and Montefiore Medical Center, two Bronx Hospitals ranked among the top 20 busiest ERs in the country. In 2017, the National Minority Quality Forum named Italo among the 40 Under 40 Leaders in Minority Health. An avid writer, Italo served with the ABC News Medical Unit, and has contributed health equity & wellness commentary to The New York Times, NPR, USA Today, GQ, Men's Fitness, and Bloomberg. Recently, Italo was selected to be among clinician leaders in access to care for the recurring Health Equity Leaders Roundtable, a new initiative by the White House Office of Public Engagement.

    BioLisa M. Brown, Ph.D., ABPP is an Adjunct Clinical Professor and member of the Human Rights in Trauma Mental Health program at Stanford University School of Medicine and Professor and Director of the Peace and Human Rights Lab at Palo Alto University. Her clinical and research focus is on trauma, resilience, human rights, refugees, and aging. As a researcher, she is actively involved in developing and evaluating health programs used nationally and internationally, drafting recommendations aimed at protecting vulnerable individuals and communities, facilitating the participation of key stakeholders, and improving access to resources and services.

    Dr. Brown has been appointed to and has served on numerous local, state, and national boards and commissions. From 2007 to 2014, she served as the Assistant Clinical Director of Disaster Behavioral Health Services, Florida Department of Health where she helped write the state disaster behavioral health response plan, develop regional disaster behavioral health teams, and conduct program evaluations of the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) crisis counseling programs. From 2008 to 2011, Dr. Brown was appointed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary to the Disaster Mental Health Subcommittee of the National Biodefense Science Board Federal Advisory Committee, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. In this role, she contributed to the development of a national behavioral health response to disasters, terrorism, and pandemics. In 2020, she was appointed to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Coronavirus Commission on Safety and Quality in Nursing Homes.

    Dr. Brown is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association (APA) Division 20 and the Gerontological Society of America. She is the former President of the APA Division 20 Adult Development and Aging. She is the recipient of two Fulbright Specialist awards with the University of the West Indies, Mona, Jamaica (2014) and with Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand (2015).

We are interested in the mechanism of action of known longevity genes, including FOXO and SIRT, in the mammalian nervous system.     BioDr. Buch is a neurosurgeon with fellowship training in epilepsy, functional, and minimally invasive neurosurgery. He is an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery, and Christina and Hamid Moghadam Faculty Scholar at Stanford University.

    Dr. Buch focuses his expertise on the open and minimally invasive treatment of epilepsy, low grade brain tumors, movement and neuropsychiatric disorders, facial and body pain syndromes, and other complex neurological conditions. He uses advanced and innovative techniques to treat both adult and pediatric patients. For each patient, he develops a personalized care plan that is designed to be both comprehensive and compassionate.

    Dr. Buch has conducted extensive research. His career goal is to develop restorative bioengineering approaches for complex neurocognitive, neurodevelopmental, and neuropsychiatric disorders. He is creating network-neuroprosthetics and focused ultrasound delivery mechanisms for precision cellular, gene, and molecular therapies to restore abnormal brain circuit function in these vulnerable patient populations. He is further pioneering novel intraoperative technologies including personalized network-based targeting, holographic mixed reality, and artificial intelligence platforms for minimally invasive cranial surgery.

    He has co-authored articles on his research discoveries in Nature Medicine, Neuron, Brain, Annals of Surgery, Frontiers in Neuroscience, Epilepsia, Brain Stimulation, Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery, Surgical Innovation, Frontiers in Surgery, Journal of Neurosurgery, and many other journals. Articles focus on developing novel network control theory applications to human brain functions and new techniques and technologies to enhance neurosurgical effectiveness and patient outcomes.

    He is the Section Editor for NEUROSURGERY, and a guest editor for Surgical Innovation and Brain Sciences. He also has co-authored chapters in the books Neurosurgical Atlas, Operative Techniques in Epilepsy Surgery, Deep Brain Stimulation, and The Encyclopedia of Medical Robotics.

    Dr. Buch has presented the findings of his research at the national conferences of numerous professional associations. Among them are the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Society for Neuroscience, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine. Topics include understanding network mechanisms of cognitive control and advances in the use of augmented reality technology to enhance neurosurgical approaches.

    For his clinical, research, and academic achievements. Dr. Buch has earned many honors. He has won awards from the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, American Roentgen Ray Society, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and National Institutes of Health.

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsThe goal of the Buckwalter Lab is to improve how people recover after a stroke. We use basic and clinical research to understand the cells, proteins, and genes that lead to successful recovery of function, and also how complications develop that impact quality of life after stroke. Ongoing projects are focused on understanding how inflammatory responses are regulated after a stroke and how they affect short-term brain injury and long term outcomes like dementia and depression.

    BioDr. Buddhe earned her medical degree from the Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad, India. She completed her pediatrics residency and chief residency at the Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center, NY and pediatric cardiology fellowship at the Children's Hospital of Michigan. Her advanced fellowship training in pediatric cardiac non-invasive imaging was completed at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital in New York. She earned her Masters degree in Clinical research and statistical analysis at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She worked at Seattle Children's Hospital, University of Washington for almost ten years where she served as the Director of Non-invasive Imaging research and the Co-Director of cardiac MRI program. Her research interests include echocardiography and Cardiac MRI.

    BioDr. Bui is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Stanford Cancer Institute and a specialist in Sarcoma. Dr. Bui earned an undergraduate degree in Computer Science at Stanford University and went on to earn his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. He completed Internal Medicine residency at Stanford Hospital and Hematology/Oncology fellowship at the University of California San Diego, where he performed extensive research in bioinformatics to analyze tumor sequencing data.

    His research background and interests are in the field of bioinformatics as applied to large data sets and the study of novel compounds in rare malignancies. He is involved in numerous sarcoma clinical trials, leading efforts to take new therapeutics from the lab to clinical practice. He also is involved in education at the Stanford University School of Medicine, serving as a lecturer and mentor to students and trainees. Dr. Bui is the founding Editor-in-Chief of the journal “Current Problems in Cancer: Case Reports”, an international, peer-reviewed journal that publishes groundbreaking cases that give insight into redefining concepts in cancer.
