BioI am Mai Ly Burke, a Master's student in Human Genetics and Genetic Counseling. Having grown up in Vietnam—a country that grapples with many health challenges—my work is fueled by a genuine passion for giving back to my community. I was inspired to enter the genetic counseling field by my volunteer work supporting children with cancer in public hospitals in Vietnam, where I saw the urgent need for improved access to healthcare. My goal is to facilitate the introduction of the genetic counseling field to Vietnam, where there is a stark shortage of genetic experts, to improve health outcomes in my community.

Alina Bykova

BioAlina is a PhD candidate in Russian and East European History. Her research interests include Arctic and Soviet environmental history with a focus on energy and industry. Alina is writing her dissertation on the history of energy and extraction on Svalbard, Norway. She also works as a research associate and editor-in-chief at The Arctic Institute, an interdisciplinary think tank.
Alina earned her masters in European and Russian Affairs from the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Toronto in 2019. Her masters thesis was about the rise and fall of Soviet mining settlements on Svalbard. Prior to her work in academia, she completed a Bachelor of Journalism at Ryerson University and worked as a breaking news reporter at the Toronto Star, Canada’s largest newspaper. -
Stephanie Caddell

Graduate Student Coordinator, Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability - Dean's OfficeBioStephanie Caddell graduated with a bachelor's degree in environmental science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with minors in marine science and environmental justice. While at UNC, she researched marine microbiology, fisheries dynamics, and marine ecosystem dynamics in Ecuador and the Galapagos. Additionally, she has researched bycatch mitigation efforts in the North Atlantic for sea turtle species with the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration. Now working on her PhD in the Oceans Department under the mentorship of Dr. Larry Crowder and Dr. Nicole Ardoin, Stephanie studies how relationships with marine resources shape stewardship. Her research sits at the intersection of marine social science and policy, examining how and why people care for local ecosystems and how governance can support—or hinder—this care. Her work aims to inform marine management policies grounded in local realities, ensuring coastal and island communities are equitably engaged at every stage of decision-making.

Catherine (Hay) Callas

BioCatherine Callas is a Ph.D. candidate in the Benson Lab in Energy Resources Engineering. She is an ExxonMobil Emerging Energy Fellow, and her research is focused on offshore carbon capture and sequestration in the Gulf Coast. She obtained her M.S. degree in the Atmosphere and Energy program within Civil and Environmental Engineering from Stanford University and a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from Brown University. Before attending Stanford, she worked as a Financial Analyst within the Fixed Income group at Goldman Sachs in New York City for three years. She was a Schneider Fellow at the Natural Resources Defense Council in San Francisco where she analyzed the impact of the 2017 Northern California wildfires and 2018 Camp Fire on retail rates within PG&E’s service territory.

Samuel Enrique Camacho

BioNative of Maracaibo, Venezuela. I am a nonprofit leader, a graduate research assistant, a perennial intern, and a recovering investment banker. After working in banking and helping early-stage startups in the sustainability space navigate funding rounds, I decided to pursue graduate studies in environmental engineering to expand my technical foundation in sustainability and renewable energy technology.
My previous research focused on traditional energy, and I have presented at over 10 economic conferences. I have also interned at a YC-backed startup, in consulting, banking, venture capital, corporate, and various nonprofits and universities. In my spare time, I co-lead a Latin American education and arts nonprofit in Houston. Other interests include worrying about Venezuelan inflation, visiting small towns in the U.S., coding in Stata, and hiking. -
Matthew John Campbell

BioI was born in Providence, RI and went to undergraduate at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in upstate NY for Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering. I worked for my first year out of undergraduate as process engineer in PA. From there I transitioned out of the private sector and commissioned as Surface Warfare Officer (Nuclear) in the U.S. Navy through OCS. I was on active duty for approximately 10 years including tours on the USS DECATUR and USS CARL VINSON. Both ships were based out of San Diego and all my deployments were in the Asia-Pacific region. My final tour was with Navy ROTC as Officer in Charge of NROTC Unit 73 in MA, during which I taught Leadership and Ethics and completed my M.S. in Engineering Management. I am currently studying Medicine here at Stanford University with an anticipated graduation date of 2027.
