Current Research and Scholarly InterestsMy research interests center around the epidemiology, environmental determinants, and health services dimensions of heart disease, with an emphasis on vulnerable populations, both international and domestic. Current projects include the development of novel care quality metrics for use in rheumatic heart disease in East Africa, testing of low sodium salt substitutes in South Asia, and describing the cardiovascular impacts of cyclical climate change-associated major environmental events.

Yan Chang
Ph.D. Student in Japanese, admitted Autumn 2021
BioYan Chang is a Ph.D. student in modern and contemporary East Asian literatures, cultures, and media. His research interests currently center on trans-linguality, trans-culture, and trans-nationality in post-Cold War Japanophone literature. His academic concerns also include visuality and modernity of modern Japanese literature in the Taisho period as well as Shanghai urbanization and the concomitant media representations in the 1990s. Before joining Stanford, Yan received a joint B.A. in Economics and Japanese from Shanghai International Studies University, an M.A. in Japanese Culture Studies from Nagoya University, and an M.A. in Asian and Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Minnesota at Twin Cities.

Eeshan Chaturvedi

BioEeshan is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Climate Governance, and its correlations with policy, law, and earth systems. He holds an LLM in Environmental Law and Policy from Stanford Law School and has since worked with various domestic and international organizations on legal and management issues. In academia, he has held positions of Assistant Dean and Professor of Environmental Governance and continues to engage with the various stakeholders in the space.
He enjoys discussions on neuroscience, astrophysics, and geo-politics in his free time. -

Hugo Chen
Ph.D. Student in Electrical Engineering, admitted Autumn 2022
BioHugo "Jiun-Yu" Chen is currently pursuing his Ph.D. degree in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University. He earned his M.S. in Photonics and Optoelectronics from National Taiwan University in 2019 and his B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from National Dong Hwa University in 2017.
Prior to joining Stanford, Hugo worked as an R&D engineer at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) in the High Power Program and Analog Power/RF Specialty Technology from 2019 to 2022. His research experience includes investigating GaN high electron mobility transistors (HEMTs) for high power converter applications, oxide-based thin-film transistors (TFTs) for CMOS inverter applications, and III-V quantum dots molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) material growth.
As the first author, Hugo has published two peer-reviewed journal articles, six conference papers, and one US/KR/TW/CN/DE patent. He is currently advised by Professors H.-S. Philip Wong and Kwabena Boahen, and his research focuses on developing ferroelectric field-effect transistors (FeFETs) for dendritic-centric learning.
In his leisure time, Hugo enjoys biking, playing badminton, and watching dramas.
