Ankita Patil

BioAnkita Patil is a public health researcher who passionately addresses health disparities through a social justice framework. With a BA in Social Psychology from The College of New Jersey, her research at Brigham & Women’s Hospital and Johns Hopkins tackles the health impacts of incarceration, trauma-informed care, and reproductive health challenges for incarcerated individuals. Her scholarly work contributed to policy reforms, including the co-authorship of an American Public Health Association policy statement which calls for the cessation of shackling incarcerated patients seeking medical care. Additionally, she has peer-reviewed a book focused on the impact of COVID-19 on Massachusetts’ prisons.
Beyond academia, Ankita has engaged deeply with community initiatives, working with organizations such as the Transformational Prison Project to bolster restorative justice and the Pandemic Response Network to meet the needs of communities most impacted by the pandemic. As a fervent advocate for health equity, Ankita’s career is characterized by a steadfast dedication to developing practical, empathetic solutions to increasingly complex public health challenges. This dedication will continue to evolve as she pursues an M.S. in Community Health and Prevention Research at Stanford, where she aims to further her impact on public health practices and policies. -

Johnny G. Powell

BioJohnny Powell, from Greensboro, North Carolina, is pursuing an MD at Stanford School of Medicine as a Knight-Hennessy Scholar. He graduated cum laude from Harvard University with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and a minor in psychology. Johnny aspires to lead medical practice in underserved communities and drive structural change to make health care more accessible at scale. While at Harvard, he led youth mentorship programming in Boston and Japan, conducted research in the natural and social sciences, and shadowed hospital physicians in Spain. As president of the Harvard Black Men’s Forum, Johnny implemented lasting infrastructure to promote public service and inclusion. After graduating, he worked as an associate consultant at Bain & Company on health care and social impact projects. Passionate about health equity, Johnny also served as research coordinator for the All of Us Research Program, a national National Institutes of Health initiative to increase diversity in health care research, at the University of Chicago.

While formerly undocumented and unstably, she personally experienced the downstream effects of a broken healthcare system, motivating her to pursue an MPH at Northwestern and to work on diversity initiatives at Stanford. Nowadays, Margarita is interested in reproductive psychiatry and integrated behavioral health, and aspires to address the health inequities which most deeply affect Latinos in the United States.

Zachary T Renfro

Masters Student in Epidemiology and Clinical Research, admitted Autumn 2023BioZachary studied biology at the University of Arkansas where he researched the impact of temperature on macrophage cytokine production across animal species as well as the neural basis of saccadic mislocalization. After graduation, he worked at the Arkansas Department of Health where he developed and implemented Arkansas' first plan to eliminate tuberculosis. Additionally he researched the contribution of epigenetic regulation on the susceptibility, development, and maintenance of chronic pain at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and participated in the front line response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
At Stanford, he is enrolled in the MD and MS in epidemiology and clinical research programs. His current research interests include emerging infectious diseases, immunological response to infection, and the impact of climate change on infectious disease. -
Samantha Reyes

BioResearch Interests: Preclinical and clinical PET imaging, novel tracer validation in vivo, B cell role in multiple sclerosis and pharmacokinetic modelling
Samantha is a Biomedical Physics PhD student with extensive experience in multi-modal molecular imaging of neurological diseases and a strong background in synthetic chemistry. She helped validate both a novel sigma-1 radiotracer, [18F]FTC-146, for its ability to detect molecular markers of neuropathic pain non-invasively and a [64Cu]hCD19-mAb radiotracer for imaging therapy-induced B cell depletion. She is well-versed in pharmacokinetic modeling, receptor occupancy studies, autoradiography, and cell-based assays. Moreover, is an expert in PET/MR imaging of neonatal mice. -

BioAs a proactive and dedicated Biomedical Engineer from Colombia, Giorgio has embarked on a journey that spans continents. Giorgio completed a BSc at the Universita Degli Studi Di Genova and pursued an MSc at Denmark Technical University, enriching Giorgio's global perspective and expertise in the field. Driven by an unyielding curiosity and a profound passion for research, Giorgio is on a mission to offer automated solutions in the healthcare sector.
Currently, Giorgio is pursuing a graduate program in Epidemiology and Clinical Research at Stanford University, while also serving as a research assistant at the Mignot Laboratory. In this capacity, Giorgio actively contributes to groundbreaking projects, actively involved in designing cutting-edge AI and ML models for the Alliance Sleep Questionnaire and PSG data. Giorgio's aim is to transform the way sleep physicians diagnose and treat patients, paving the way for improved healthcare practices.

India Bahia Rogers-Shepp

BioIndia Rogers-Shepp is originally from New York City. She graduated from Princeton University with her BA in molecular biology in 2018 and a certificate in Dance. The following year she graduate from Brown University with a Master's in Science in Medical Sciences in 2019. She entered Stanford Medical School in 2020. During her time here, she has pursued her passions for women's health, queer health, equity for the unhoused, and environmental justice. India's future career goal is to become an OB/GYN who centers the reproductive health of the unhoused and those made most vulnerable by climate change through her clinical practice and research.

Sina Sadeghzadeh

BioSina was born in Tehran, Iran and raised in Zanjan, Iran. He came out to Massachusetts to attend Harvard University where he obtained his undergraduate degree cum laude in Neuroscience with a secondary in Economics. In college, Sina conducted wet-lab research under the supervision of Dr. Hugo Bellen, worked as a legal intern in Levy Firestone Muse LLP, and served as a research assistant for Drs. Francis Shen, Steven Levitsky, and Jennifer Hochschild. Sina moved to California (by bike!) to begin medical school at Stanford where he is currently pursuing clinical and basic science research opportunities in the neuroscience domain. Outside of medical school, Sina is an avid cyclist, enjoys going on walks, doing yoga, and learning to salsa dance.
