    BioDr. Alpana Gowda is a clinical assistant professor in the Division of Pain Medicine at Stanford, where she has cared for patients since 2007. Her clinical practice focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of complex pain conditions, with particular expertise in musculoskeletal pain and electrodiagnostic (EMG) testing.

    Dr. Gowda is passionate about helping patients understand the source of their pain—especially when the diagnosis feels unclear or elusive. She emphasizes that chronic pain is a multifaceted condition that can arise from the bones, muscles, ligaments, nerves, or brain, and works with each patient to develop a plan that addresses their unique experience of pain.

    In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Gowda teaches Stanford pain medicine fellows and lectures on topics including pain mechanisms, musculoskeletal medicine, and the challenges of diagnosing chronic pain.

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsDr. Goyal's research interests involve monitoring and managing the short and long-term toxicity of immunosuppressive agents used in the treatment of immune-mediated neuromuscular disorders. She is actively involved in a grant-supported project investigating steroid toxicity in patients with myasthenia gravis.

    She also serves as the Wellbeing Co-Director for the Neurology Department, working on a grant-supported project aimed at mitigating the adverse impact of work on personal relationships.

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsWe study the molecular mechanisms by which chromatin-signaling networks effect nuclear and epigenetic programs, and how dysregulation of these pathways leads to disease. Our work centers on the biology of lysine methylation, a principal chromatin-regulatory mechanism that directs epigenetic processes. We study how lysine methylation events are generated, sensed, and transduced, and how these chemical marks integrate with other nuclear signaling systems to govern diverse cellular functions.

    BioErin Grady, MD, CCD, FACNM, FSNMMI is a nuclear medicine physician at Stanford Hospital and Clinics in Stanford, California. She serves as the Interim Division Chief of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, Associate Chair of Education and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and is program director for the nuclear radiology and nuclear oncology fellowship programs, as well as a coach for the diagnostic radiology program. She is actively involved nationally in the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging as a Director-at-Large on the SNMMI Board of Directors, and chair of the Government Relations Committee. She serves on the Nuclear Medicine Residency Review Committee for ACGME appeals panel member and assisted with milestone 1.0 development committee for Nuclear Medicine and 2.0 milestone revision committee for Nuclear Radiology at the ACGME. She has been involved in multiple guideline and appropriate use documents on topics related to thyroid cancer (NCCN panel), neuroendocrine tumors, bone scintigraphy, lung scintigraphy and more. In addition, she is a past chair of the American Board of Nuclear Medicine and past president of the American College of Nuclear Medicine. Her areas of research interest include quality, education, radiopharmaceutical therapy and finding answers to clinical questions that arise during the course of practice. She is passionate about education, nuclear medicine’s future, collaboration across specialties, and is a staunch advocate for patients.

    BioDr. Graglia, the youngest of four in an immigrant family, grew up in Southern California. Considering veterinary medicine, journalism, architecture, and Disney animation, Dr. Graglia ‘discovered people’ during a summer in undergrad working in Ethiopia, decided on medicine as her path forward, and has never looked back.

    A UC child, she completed her undergraduate studies at UC Berkeley, medical school at UC Davis, and residency at UCSF with deviations to the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health for a Masters of Public Health and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) for fellowship in Emergency Ultrasound.

    Having worked, learned, and/or taught throughout Africa, Europe and Eastern Europe, and Central and South America, her three pillars continue to be point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), education, and global health with an unending drive to serve the underserved.

    Outside of work, Dr. Graglia enjoys her growing family, yoga, hiking, being outside, and exploring - new cultures, places, and languages.

    BioI am an epidemiologist and health services researcher with nearly 20 years of experience in surgical outcomes research. My work focuses on improving healthcare delivery and outcomes for Veterans and other vulnerable populations, particularly those who are older or medically complex. Using large administrative datasets from the Veterans Health Administration (VA), I study surgical processes and outcomes to inform system-level improvements.
    With postdoctoral training in health economics and implementation science, I bring expertise in causal inference methodology and artificial intelligence, particularly the use of natural language processing (NLP). I apply these methods to extract insights from unstructured clinical data and to strengthen causal analyses in complex healthcare datasets. These approaches allow me to address research questions that were previously difficult to study with standard empirical approaches.
    As a collaborative leader, I have mentored junior investigators and worked across academic and industry sectors to advance health services research. My goal is to translate evidence into practice, ultimately improving the quality of surgical care for Veterans.

    BioDr. Teodor Grantcharov is a board-certified, fellowship-trained surgeon specializing in bariatric (weight loss) and minimally invasive surgery. He is also a clinical professor of surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine and associate chief quality officer for innovation and safety at Stanford Health Care.

    As a surgeon, Dr. Grantcharov specializes in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery. He is an accomplished researcher and leader in the field of surgical innovation and patient safety. His work has made important contributions in curriculum design, assessments of competence, and impact of surgical performance on clinical outcomes. Dr. Grantcharov developed the surgical Black Box concept, designed to transform safety culture in medicine and introduce modern safety management systems in high-risk operating rooms.

    Dr. Grantcharov has published more 220 articles in peer-reviewed journals and given more than 200 invited presentations in Europe and North and South America. He holds several patents and is the founder of Surgical Safety Technologies, Inc.—an academic startup that commercializes the Black Box Platform™. Dr. Grantcharov has received several prestigious honors and awards, including the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his contributions in clinical research and patient safety in Canada.

    BioNathanael Gray is the Krishnan-Shah Family Professor of Chemical and Systems Biology at Stanford, Co-Director of Cancer Drug Discovery Co-Leader of the Cancer Therapeutics Research Program, Member of Chem-H, and Program Leader for Small Molecule Drug Discovery for the Innovative Medicines Accelerator (IMA). His research utilizes the tools of synthetic chemistry, protein biochemistry, and cancer biology to discover and validate new strategies for the inhibition of anti-cancer targets. Dr. Gray’s research has had broad impact in the areas of kinase inhibitor design and in circumventing drug resistance.
    Dr. Gray received his PhD in organic chemistry from the University of California at Berkeley in 1999 after receiving his BS degree with the highest honor award from the same institution in 1995. After completing his PhD, Dr. Gray was recruited to the newly established Genomics Institute of the Novartis Research Foundation (GNF) in San Diego, California. During his six year stay at GNF, Dr. Gray became the director of biological chemistry where he supervised a group of over fifty researchers integrating chemical, biological and pharmacological approaches towards the development of new experimental drugs. Some of the notable accomplishments of Dr. Gray’s team at GNF include: discovery of the first allosteric inhibitors of wild-type and mutant forms of BCR-ABL which resulted in clinical development of ABL001; discovery of the first selective inhibitors of the Anaplastic Lymphoma Kinase (ALK), an achievement that led to the development of now FDA-approved drugs such as ceritinib (LDK378) for the treatment of EML4-ALK expressing non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC); and discovery that sphingosine-1-phosphate receptor-1 (S1P1) is the pharmacologically relevant target of the immunosuppressant drug Fingomilod (FTY720) followed by the development of Siponimod (BAF312), which is currently used for the treatment of multiple sclerosis.
    In 2006, Dr. Gray returned to academia as a faculty member at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School in Boston. There, he has established a discovery chemistry group that focuses on developing first-in-class inhibitors for newly emerging biological targets, including resistant alleles of existing targets, as well as inhibitors of well-validated targets, such as Her3 and RAS, that have previously been considered recalcitrant to small molecule drug development. Dr. Gray’s team developed covalent inhibitors of the T790M mutant of EGFR inspired the development of Osimertinib (AZD9291), now FDA approved for treatment of patients with relapsed lung cancer due to resistance to first generation EGFR inhibitors. Dr. Gray has also developed structure-based, generalized approaches for designing drugs to overcome one of the most common mechanisms of resistance observed against most kinase inhibitor drugs, mutation of the so-called "gatekeeper" residue, which has been observed in resistance to drugs targeting BCR-ABL, c-KIT and PDGFR.
    In 2021, Dr. Gray joined Stanford University where he has joined the Stanford Cancer Institute, Chem-H and the Innovative Medicines Accelerator (IMA) to spur the development of prototype drugs.
    These contributions have been recognized through numerous awards including the National Science Foundation’s Career award in 2007, the Damon Runyon Foundation Innovator award in 2008, the American Association for Cancer Research for Team Science in 2010 and for Outstanding Achievement in 2011 and the American Chemical Society award for Biological Chemistry in 2011, and the Nancy Lurie Marks endowed professorship in 2015 and the Paul Marks Prize in 2019, and the Hope Funds for Cancer Research in 2023.

    BioDr. Yoel Green is a board-certified, fellowship-trained sleep medicine specialist at Stanford Health Care. He also serves as a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Division of Sleep Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine.

    Dr. Green specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders, including narcolepsy, parasomnias, and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). He also diagnoses and treats sleep-wake cycle disorders and restless legs syndrome (RLS). He integrates sleep data with patients’ lived experience to provide clear, personalized care.

    Dr. Green’s research focuses on improving the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders. His work has appeared in peer-reviewed journals such as Biological Psychiatry and SLEEP. He has authored textbook chapters and presented at national meetings, including the American Psychiatric Association (APA) Annual Meeting.

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsDr Greenberg's clinical research involves design and coordination of clinical trials using experimental drugs with biologic focus for both lower and higher risk MDS patients not responding to standard therapies. These studies are particularly based on his prior laboratory investigations of gene expression and hematopoietic regulation in MDS patients. He is Coordinator of the International Working Group for Prognosis in MDS (IWG-PM) which generated the revised MDS classification system (the IPSS-R) and the mutation-based prognostic risk system, the IPSS-Molecular (IPSS-M). This project uses such findings to more specifically characterize and treat MDS patients. He is Chair of the NCCN Practice Guidelines Panel for MDS.

    BioDr. Greene is a board-certified, fellowship-trained neurologist. He is also a Clinical Assistant Professor of Neurology at Stanford University School of Medicine.

    Dr. Greene provides clinical care for adult patients with disorders of the muscles and peripheral nerves that cause weakness and numbness. He specializes in diagnosing and treating neuromuscular diseases that include amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), all types of muscular dystrophy, chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP), myasthenia gravis, and Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT). For CIDP and CMT, Stanford is one of the few centers of excellence in the country.

    A significant part of Dr. Greene’s practice involves investigational work, where he seeks to determine the cause of a patient’s symptoms. In addition to performing the full range of diagnostic tests including interpreting biopsy procedures, he has special qualifications in electrodiagnosis and the use of electromyography and nerve conduction studies.

    Treatments offered by Dr. Greene cover the complete spectrum of options, with an emphasis on immune therapies for certain conditions. For CIDP and myasthenia gravis, he administers immune globulin, steroids, plasmapheresis, and rituximab. To help manage symptoms of CMT and support areas of the body weakened by this disease, he can recommend physical therapy, occupational therapy, and foot, ankle, and knee orthotics.

    For the treatment of ALS and muscular dystrophy, Dr. Greene leads a multidisciplinary team offering physical and occupational therapy, pulmonary expertise, speech and swallow expertise, nutrition counseling, social services, and specialized nursing, and works together with genetic counseling. All team members collaborate closely to ensure patients receive the care and comfort needed to meet their emotional as well as physical needs.

    As part of his commitment to advancing patients’ treatment options, Dr. Greene conducts clinical research. Among his current interests are
    innovative new therapies for ALS and other nerve and muscular disorders. This is an exciting time in the field of neuromuscular medicine, with real potential for treatment breakthroughs for the first time in decades. Exploring these new directions enables Dr. Greene to offer Stanford patients access to options that may not be available anywhere else.

    To highlight new advances for his peers, Dr. Greene has made national and regional presentations at conferences including the American Academy of Neurology meeting. Topics include the results of a study supported in part by the National Institutes of Health: paraneoplastic antibodies as markers of Hodgkin’s disease. JAMA Neurology published Dr. Greene’s article on this research.

    Dr. Greene’s achievements have earned recognition from the American Academy of Neurology and other organizations. He is also the recipient of a travel award from the American Neurological Association and a grant from the NIH National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.

    A member of the American Academy of Neurology, Dr. Greene is also an active member of the Western ALS Consortium and Northeastern ALS Consortium.

    BioJ. Christian Greer, PhD, is a scholar of Religious Studies with a special focus on psychedelic culture. He holds a MDiv from Harvard Divinity School, as well as a MA and PhD (cum laude) in Western Esotericism from the University of Amsterdam. While a postdoctoral researcher at Harvard Divinity School, he led a series of seminars on global psychedelic cultures, which culminated in the creation of the "Harvard Psychedelic Walking Tour," a free audio guide detailing how the Harvard community has shaped the modern history of psychedelic culture. He is also the co-founder, and currently the co-chair of the "Drugs and Religion" program unit at the American Academy of Religion.

    His forthcoming book, "Angelheaded Hipsters: Psychedelic Militancy in Nineteen Eighties North America" (Oxford University Press), explores the expansion of psychedelic culture within fanzine networks in the late Cold War era. He has held teaching positions at Harvard University and Yale University, and is currently a lecturer at Stanford University. His other books include, "Void Machines: the Paper Shrines of J. Christian Greer," a collection of his esoteric artworks, and "Kumano Kodo: Pilgrimage to Powerspots" (co-authored with Dr. Michelle Oing) which analyzes the pilgrimage folklore associated with the rainforests of Japan's Kii Peninsula.

    Each winter, he partners with the University of Amsterdam to offer an introduction to the study of occultism, hosted on ZOOM, entitled "FORBIDDEN KNOWLEDGE: Introduction to Esotericism." Similarly, each summer, he organizes an intensive summer school course on the University of Amsterdam's campus entitled, "THE PSYCHEDELIC UNIVERSE: Global Perspectives on Higher Consciousness."

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsAs the Founding Director of the Stanford Center for Memory Disorders and Principal Investigator of a lab focused on the genetics of Alzheimer's disease (AD), Dr. Greicius' research focuses on elucidating the neurobiologic underpinnings of AD. His lab combines cutting edge brain imaging, "deep" phenotyping, and whole-genome sequencing of human subjects to identify novel pathways involved in AD pathogenesis. The goal of his work is to develop effective treatment for AD patients.

    BioDr. Groenewald is Director of Pediatric Anesthesiology Research at Stanford University School of Medicine. He conducts clinical research that crosses several areas related to child health, including epidemiology, health services research, pediatric pain, sleep deficiency, and opioid use behaviors. His research is funded by the National Institutes of Health, International Association for the Study of Pain, and the Society for Pediatric Anesthesiology. His work on pediatric pain, sleep disturbance, and opioid use has been published in JAMA Pediatrics, Pediatrics, PAIN, Journal of Pain, SLEEP, and JAMA Psychiatry. Dr. Groenewald holds national leadership positions in the United States Association for the Study of Pain, including being elected as inaugural Chair of the Pediatric Special Interest Group in 2020 and co-chair of the Advocacy committee in 2022.     Current Research and Scholarly InterestsA part of the laboratory studies organ injury and how common genetic variants may affect the response to injury caused by surgery; particularly aldehydes. Aldehyde accumulation can cause many post-operative complications that people experience during surgery- whether it be reperfusion injury, post-operative pain, cognitive dysfunction, or nausea. The other part of the lab studies the impact of e-cigarettes and alcohol, when coupled with genetics, on the cardiopulmonary system.

    BioDr. Grummon is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and (by courtesy) Health Policy and the Director of the Stanford Food Policy Lab. Dr. Grummon is a behavioral scientist whose work seeks to identify and evaluate policies that encourage healthy eating and help children and their families live long, healthy lives. In her work, Dr. Grummon uses randomized trials, natural experiments, and simulation modeling to examine how food policies like warning labels, beverage taxes, and food assistance programs affect what we eat and how healthy we are. She also studies strategies for encouraging people to choose foods that are more environmentally sustainable. Dr. Grummon's program of research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Bloomberg Philanthropies, and others. Her work has been published in leading medical and public health journals including JAMA, New England Journal of Medicine, Science, and the American Journal of Public Health and received coverage in news outlets such as the New York Times, the Washington Post, NBC, NPR, and Forbes.

    Dr. Grummon holds a PhD and MSPH in Health Behavior from the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health and a BA with Honors in Human Biology from Stanford. She completed her postdoctoral training at Harvard.

    Brandon Alan Guenthart

    BioDr. Guenthart is a board-certified, fellowship-trained cardiothoracic surgeon. He is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery.

    He specializes in providing leading-edge surgical treatment for people with cancer and end-stage heart and lung disease. He performs the full range of surgical procedures ranging from minimally invasive thoracic surgery to heart and lung transplantation. Dr. Guenthart practices all aspects of thoracic surgery, including procedures for benign and malignant conditions of the airway, lung, mediastinum, esophagus, and foregut. He has a particular interest in minimally invasive techniques and has extensive experience in video-assisted thoracoscopic surgical (VATS), laparoscopic, robotic, endoscopic, and bronchoscopic approaches.

    Dr. Guenthart earned his medical degree at Temple University School of Medicine. He completed general surgery residency at Cornell and a post-doctoral research fellowship in tissue bioengineering at Columbia University in the Laboratory for Stem Cells and Tissue Engineering. He then completed cardiothoracic surgery fellowship and advanced fellowship training in cardiothoracic transplantation and mechanical circulatory support at Stanford University.

    Dr. Guenthart has conducted research supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health, Stanford University School of Medicine, and Columbia University. Dr. Guenthart has a particular interest in end-stage lung disease and his research focuses on lung perfusion and bioengineering strategies to promote lung recovery and regeneration. He has published in peer-reviewed journals such as Nature Medicine, Nature Biomedical Engineering, the Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation. He has made numerous presentations to his peers at national conferences and given invited talks on patient selection, organ allocation, and other aspects of transplantation.

    Dr. Guenthart is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, Western Thoracic Surgical Association, Biomedical Engineering Society, American College of Surgeons, Association for Academic Surgery, and Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.

    BioDr. Ilang M. Guiroy is a board-certified, fellowship-trained physician scientist and psychiatrist at Stanford Health Care and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University School of Medicine.

    Dr. Guiroy is director of the Guiroy Lab at Stanford. Her research explores maternal-infant mental health and digital mental health, including the use of social media, digital communities, and AI for mental health. She developed a groundbreaking telehealth platform to deliver psychotherapy via group chat to digital communities.

    Dr. Guiroy treats mental health conditions in patients throughout the lifespan, from conception to elder age. She has a special interest in infant, child, and maternal mental health and provides medication management during pregnancy, postpartum, and breastfeeding. Dr. Guiroy provides expert support to patients coping with birth trauma, transitioning to motherhood, and fostering infant attachment and maternal bonding. Dr. Guiroy is skilled in over twelve therapy modalities including maternal-infant dyadic therapy, interpersonal therapy (IPT), and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

    Dr. Guiroy has published her research in peer-reviewed journals, including Journal of Technology in Behavioral Science and Telemedicine and e-Health. She has also presented to her peers at national conferences for the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) and the Society for Digital Mental Health (SDMH).

    Dr. Guiroy is a member of the AACAP, the SDMH, the American Psychiatric Association (APA), and the International Marcé Society for Perinatal Mental Health.

    BioDr. Gulla is a board-certified urologist with fellowship training in endourology. She is a clinical assistant professor in the Stanford University School of Medicine Department of Urology.

    For each patient, she develops a comprehensive, compassionate care plan customized to individual needs. Her goal is to help each patient achieve the best possible health and quality of life.

    Dr. Gulla performs the complete spectrum of diagnostic and treatment procedures for urological conditions. She treats disorders including benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), blood in urine, kidney stones, male and female voiding dysfunction, neurogenic bladder, prostate cancer, and over active bladder.

    She excels at ureteroscopy and cystoscopy (examination of the bladder and urinary tract with a scope), endourology (minimally invasive treatment of kidney stones), laser therapy, ultrasound-guided diagnosis and treatment, urodynamic testing, and other techniques.

    To help advance her field, Dr. Gulla has conducted research. Among the topics she has investigated are voiding cystourethrogram (VCUG) testing in children for bladder and urethral abnormalities and for conditions that can lead to kidney infections.

    She has presented her research findings at the national meeting of the American Urologic Association. She also has published papers in the Journal of the American College of Surgeons and elsewhere.

    She is a member of the American Urologic Association.

    BioRuwan Gunaratne, MD, PhD is an Instructor in Hematology at Stanford University School of Medicine and a board-certified hematologist-oncologist with a clinical focus on acute myeloid leukemia (AML), myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), and myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs). His clinical and translational research centers on improving disease monitoring in myeloid cancers using personalized circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) profiling, a blood-based approach designed to more sensitively track measurable residual disease (MRD), assess treatment response, refine risk stratification, and detect relapse earlier across the myeloid disease spectrum. Dr. Gunaratne’s work has been recognized with awards from the American Society of Hematology and the Stanford Cancer Institute, and he is actively committed to advancing precision medicine approaches for patients with myeloid malignancies.

    BioDr. Divya Gupta is a board-certified, fellowship-trained neurologist with Stanford Health Care. She is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Division of Sleep Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine.

    As a sleep medicine specialist, Dr. Gupta has expertise caring for a wide range of sleep disorders in children and adults. She develops personalized treatment plans for problems such as insomnia, sleep-related breathing disorders, disruptive nighttime sleep behaviors, and sleep-related movement disorders. She specializes in pediatric neurology and diagnosing and managing developmental disorders in children. Dr. Gupta works closely with patients and families to help improve sleep quality and overall quality of life.

    Dr. Gupta is a physician-researcher in the neurology field, focused on studying neurological disorders in children. She has evaluated seizure management, including febrile seizures (convulsions caused by a fever) and severe epilepsy syndromes. She has examined how brain inflammation and genetic conditions affect the brain and sleep. Her recent studies have explored sleep disorders in children living with autism spectrum disorder, investigating the impact of conditions such as obstructive sleep apnea and ways to improve sleep evaluations.

    Dr. Gupta has published her findings in the HealthCare Ethics Committee Forum and Annals of the Child Neurology Society. She has also presented her research across the nation at meetings of the American Academy of Neurology, Associated Professional Sleep Societies (SLEEP Meeting), and Child Neurology Society (CNS).

    BioPelvic floor and functional bowel disorders encompass a wide range of symptoms and conditions that affect people of all ages and genders. These include constipation, obstructed defecation, fecal incontinence, rectal prolapse, pelvic organ prolapse, irritable bowel disorders, and urinary and sexual dysfunction. While rarely life-threatening, these conditions profoundly affect quality of life, self-confidence, and daily function — and they deserve the same serious, compassionate attention as any other illness.
    I am a colorectal surgeon and lifestyle medicine physician specializing in anorectal disorders and pelvic floor dysfunction. I serve as Research Director of the Stanford Pelvic Health Center, where I lead a multidisciplinary program that brings together colorectal surgery, urogynecology, urology, gastroenterology, and pelvic floor physical therapy to provide integrated, whole-person care.
    My surgical training was at Cleveland Clinic, where I spent nearly a decade building and leading a multidisciplinary pelvic floor clinic and performing hundreds of combined procedures with colleagues in urology and urogynecology. I was among the early adopters of robotic surgical techniques for women with combined vaginal and rectal prolapse, and developed expertise in complex procedures including repair of intestinal and rectovaginal fistula. Earlier in my career, I established a Pelvic Floor Center at Maimonides Medical Center, where I received a Jahnigan Career Development Award studying multicompartment prolapse in elderly women. I joined Stanford's Department of Surgery, Division of Colorectal Surgery in 2017.
    My research spans surgical outcomes, pelvic floor quality of life, and patient-centered technology. I am the principal investigator for the Stanford Pelvic Health Registry, a longitudinal database of over 475 patients with rectal prolapse followed since 2018. I was a 2020–2021 Stanford Biodesign Fellow, and my current work includes development and validation of disease-specific patient education tools. I believe that patients who understand their condition make better decisions — and recover better too.
    I am also board-certified in lifestyle medicine. Prevention, diet, exercise, pelvic floor physical therapy, and behavior change are not secondary to surgery in my practice — they are the first line of care. Surgery, when it is needed, works best in patients whose lifestyle has been optimized. This philosophy guides how I counsel patients and how I train the next generation of surgeons and clinicians.
    When I am not in the clinic or operating room, I can be found at the farmers market, fermenting something in my kitchen, practicing yoga, or spending time with my dog.

    BioPardes Habib, MD/PhD, is an Instructor in the Department of Neurosurgery at Stanford University School of Medicine. His research focuses on how human neural stem cells (hNSCs) drive brain repair after chronic stroke. By integrating state-of-the-art imaging (MRI/PET) with spatially resolved multi omics, he maps structural and molecular remodeling after stroke and aims to identify diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers that drive the development and refinement of precision, cell-based therapies.
    Dr. Habib completed dual doctorates in Neurology/Neuroscience (MD/PhD) and Biochemistry (PhD) at RWTH Aachen University in Germany, where he later earned a Habilitation (Venia Legendi) in Experimental Neurology—an academic qualification comparable to an associate professorship.
    As head of Aachen’s Translational Stroke Research Group, he investigated neuroprotective and neuroinflammatory pathways and illuminated the roles of inflammasome activation and the unfolded protein response in acute ischemic stroke.
    Since joining Dr. Gary Steinberg’s laboratory at Stanford in 2022, Dr. Habib has focused on decoding the molecular crosstalk among hNSCs, immune cells, and host neural circuits. His long-term goal is to transform these insights into targeted interventions that restore function and quality of life for patients living with the aftermath of stroke.

    BioDr. Laura M. Hack is an Assistant of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University and the Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System (PAVAHCS). As Associate Director of the Novel & Precision Neurotherapeutics Program at the Stanford Center for Precision Mental Health, Dr. Hack leads a translational, patient-centered research group that designs and implements mechanistic clinical trials for biologically informed subtypes of Mood, Anxiety, and Trauma-related Disorders (MATRDs).

    Her work spans repurposed pharmacologic interventions (e.g., guanfacine), neuromodulation techniques (e.g., repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation [TMS]), and therapies involving altered states of consciousness (i.e., ketamine, MDMA, psilocybin, and anesthesia-induced dreaming). Across these modalities, Dr. Hack's focus is on tailoring treatment based on objective, biologically anchored markers that match the patient’s profile.

    Dr. Hack also directs the Stanford Precision Psychiatry Clinic, a high-touch, high-tech consultation service designed to support individuals with a primary diagnosis of major depression and often comorbid MATRDs. This clinic integrates the investigational use of high-definition neuroimaging (personalized brain circuit scores) with symptom profiling, neurocognitive testing, pharmacogenomic analysis, inflammatory biomarkers, and standard blood work. The aim is to generate individualized insights that inform treatment decisions and help patients better understand the biological underpinnings of their condition—often reducing self-blame and empowering engagement in care.

    In her role as Deputy Director as well as Ketamine and Education Lead of the Precision Neuromodulation Clinic (PNC) at PAVAHCS, Dr. Hack specializes in delivering evidence-based, FDA-cleared interventions including TMS and intranasal ketamine for Veterans experiencing treatment-resistant depression, frequently in the context of comorbid PTSD.

    BioLindsey Haddock, MD, MAEd, is a geriatrician and clinician-educator with a master's degree in education. She is the Vice Chief for Education in Primary Care and Population Health. She is an Educator-4-CARE faculty in the School of Medicine, serving as a longitudinal teacher and mentor for medical students, and also precepts students in the ambulatory medicine clerkship. She works clinically in Stanford Senior Care Clinic and the inpatient geriatrics service.

    Dr. Haddock is an award-winning educator whose mission is to foster an inclusive, humanistic learning environment and help students, trainees, and faculty recognize, elevate, and share the value of their educational work. Her academic interests in education include learning in the clinical workplace, evaluation of workplace based assessments, and patient and family engaged medical education.
