Juan Antonio Delgado San Martin

BioI specialise in computational approaches to uncover insights from large mobile health datasets for cardiovascular risk assessment. I am also interested in survival models, PKPD modelling, language models (including data mining in EHR and genAI), and web app development for other researchers to use. I have extensive experience in industry implementing ML approaches and designing ML-centric industry-scale production software architectures, including MLOps & CICD.
In the academic domain, I share my time between Imperial College London and Stanford research projects. In the industrial domain, I help industrial startups like ValueBase and Aktana —and charities such as Cancer Research UK (CRUK)—extract greater value from advanced data analyses.
The rest of my time is dedicated to teaching companies how to design effective data ecosystems within Google Cloud on behalf of Google. -
Daniel James Delitto, MD, PhD, FACS
Assistant Professor of Surgery (General Surgery)
BioDr. Delitto is a board certified complex general surgical oncologist with a focus on conditions of the liver, pancreas, and stomach. He is an assistant professor in Stanford Medicine’s Department of Surgery.
His education includes a decade of postgraduate training in complex general surgical oncology, as well as a PhD in immunology with an emphasis on cancer biology. He completed a clinical fellowship at Johns Hopkins University and continued his research at the postdoctoral level in the laboratory of Dr. Elizabeth Jaffee. His research focus is on advancing the field of cancer immunology and harnessing his findings to improve immunotherapies.
He was the principal investigator of two studies examining the immune response to pancreatic cancer, including one funded by the National Cancer Institute.
Dr. Delitto has presented the findings of his research at conferences such as the American Association for Cancer Research, Society for the Immunotherapy of Cancer, American Association of Immunologists, American College of Surgeons, Academic Surgical Congress and Pancreas Club. In addition to cancer immunology, he has also presented work focused on cancer cachexia, surgical outcomes, translational experimental models and a variety of other oncologic topics.
He has published original work in Nature Communications, the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, Cancer Research, Clinical Cancer Research, and other high impact journals. He is also a reviewer for Annals of Surgery, Scientific Reports, Surgery, Tumor Biology, Journal of Surgical Research, PLOS ONE, and the Journal of Translational Medicine.
Dr. Delitto has earned numerous honors related to clinical excellence, teaching and research. He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and a member of the Society of Surgical Oncology, American Association for Cancer Research and American Association of Immunologists. -

Wendy DeMartini
Professor of Radiology (Breast Imaging)
On Leave from 09/08/2025 To 05/31/2026BioDr. Wendy DeMartini is a Professor in the Department of Radiology at Stanford University School of Medicine. She currently serves as the Associate Chair for Clinical Faculty Affairs in the Department of Radiology, and is the past Division Chief of Breast Imaging. Her work is focused upon high quality patient care, clinical research and education.
Dr. DeMartini completed her fellowship in Breast Imaging at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, Washington. She then served as Breast Imaging faculty at the University of Washington where she became Associate Professor and Associate Director of Clinical Services, and at the University of Wisconsin where she became Professor and Chief of Breast Imaging.
Dr. DeMartini has more than 100 research presentations, abstracts/publications, review articles or book chapters. Her research is directed toward the appropriate evidence-based use of imaging tests to optimize the detection and evaluation of breast cancer. She has served as an investigator on several studies of breast MRI funded by the National Cancer Institute and by the American College of Radiology Imaging Network (ACRIN). Particular research topics have included the development of a pilot tool for predicting the probability of malignancy of breast MRI lesions, assessment of the impact of background parenchymal enhancement (BPE) on breast MRI accuracy, and evaluation of utilization patterns of breast MRI and other emerging technologies. She also served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Breast Imaging from 2023 to 2024.
Dr. DeMartini is a highly sought-after educator. She lectures on a broad spectrum of breast imaging topics nationally and internationally, including in the Americas, Europe, Australasia and Africa. She is the past Co-Director of the American College of Radiology (ACR) Education Center Breast MRI with Biopsy Course. Dr. DeMartini is an active member of many professional organizations and committees, including in the Radiologic Society of North America, the American College of Radiology and the Society of Breast Imaging (SBI). She was elected as an SBI Fellow in 2009 and served as President of the SBI in 2017-2018. -
Utkan Demirci

BioDr. Utkan Demirci, UofM’99, Stanford’01’05’05, is a Professor of Radiology (with tenure) and of Electrical Engineering (by courtesy) at the Canary Center at Stanford for Cancer Early Detection, Stanford University School of Medicine, where he leads a productive researcher group. Utkan is a tenured professor at Stanford University School of Medicine. Prior to joining Stanford in 2014, he held the position of Associate Professor at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital-Harvard Medical School and also served at the Harvard-MIT Health Sciences and Technology division. Over the past decade, his research group has focused on the early detection of cancer and has made significant contributions to the development of microfluidic platforms for sorting rare cells and exosomes and point-of-care bio-sensing technologies.
Dr. Demirci leads a productive and impactful research group focused on addressing problems from the clinic with innovations including cell sorter for IVF, optical technologies for detecting viruses, portable point of care technologies for diagnostics in global health, smart robots in vivo, extracellular vesicle based early detection approaches for cancer. He is an elected fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering and The Academy for Radiology & Biomedical Imaging Research Distinguished Investigator.
He has published over 250 peer-reviewed articles, 300 abstracts and proceedings, 24 book chapters and editorials, and 7 edited books. He also serves on the editorial board of various journals. He is a serial academic entrepreneur and co-founded multiple successful companies. His patents are translated into broadly used biomedical products. Dr. Demirci's pioneering work in microfluidics and cell sorting has resulted in CE certified and FDA approved devices used in over 500,000 clinical cases serving patients globally. -
Megan DeMott, MD

BioMegan DeMott, MD, earned dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Biochemistry and Philosophy from Claremont McKenna College, graduating summa cum laude. She received her medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and completed residency training in Emergency Medicine at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, where she served as Chief Resident. She went on to complete a fellowship in Medical Toxicology at the University of California, San Diego.
For the past 15 years, Dr. DeMott has practiced at an indigent care hospital in Brawley, California, where she is dedicated to serving underserved populations. In addition to her clinical work, she mentors Stanford physician assistant students, fostering the next generation of healthcare providers. Her professional interests include medical toxicology, emergency care, and health equity in vulnerable communities. -
Stefania Demuro

BioStefania received her master’s degree in pharmaceutical chemistry from the University of Cagliari (Sardinia, Italy) and later moved to Philadelphia to conduct organic chemistry research at the University of Pennsylvania. Returning to Italy, she completed her Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Bologna in collaboration with the Italian Institute of Technology, focusing on the development of first-in-class triple protein kinase inhibitors for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and related tauopathies (Prof. Andrea Cavalli).
As part of her doctoral training, Stefania spent time at UC San Diego in Prof. Carlo Ballatore’s group, where she developed novel microtubule stabilizers for the treatment of tauopathies.
Drawn to the interconnection between chemistry and biology, and after applying her medicinal chemistry expertise to research in diabetes and neuropathic pain at Stanford ChEM-H, she joined the Chen Lab to investigate the role of ALDH1B1 in tumorigenesis and HIPK4 as a target for male contraception. -

Huiqiong Deng, MD, PhD

BioDr. Huiqiong Deng is a clinical associate professor of psychiatry. In addition to a medical degree, she earned a PhD, with a major in rehabilitation science and a minor in neuroscience. Specializing in the treatment of alcohol/substance addiction, interventional and cultural psychiatry, her goal is to help each patient along the journey to achieve optimal health and quality of life.
As the co-author of more than a dozen scholarly articles, Dr. Deng’s work has appeared in Psychiatry Research, Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs, American Journal on Addictions, Brain Stimulation, and other publications.
Dr. Deng has won numerous honors and awards such as the National Institute on Drug Abuse Young Investigator Travel Award, the Ruth Fox Scholarship from the American Society of Addiction Medicine, and College on the Problems of Drug Dependence Travel Award for Early Career Investigators. In addition, she was selected to attend the Annual American Psychiatry Association Research Colloquium for Junior Investigators. Since she joined faculty at Stanford, Dr. Deng has received research grant support by the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences Innovator Grant Program. -

BioJenny Deng is an Assistant Clinical Research Coordinator for Dr. Jean Tang in the Dermatology department. She received her bachelor’s in science from the University of California, Santa Cruz with a major in Molecular and Cell Developmental Biology. Dr. Qiwen Deng
Postdoctoral Scholar, Pathology
BioMy research aims to understand how immune–stromal interactions shape tissue injury, repair, and fibrosis across chronic diseases. I combine multiplexed spatial proteomics (CODEX), single-cell and spatial transcriptomics, and molecular pathology approaches to dissect the organization and function of complex tissue microenvironments. By mapping spatially resolved cellular neighborhoods in human biopsies, I seek to uncover conserved and disease-specific patterns that can guide biomarker discovery and therapeutic development.
Working within a laboratory focused on the mechanisms and therapeutic targeting of fibrotic diseases, I investigate chronic kidney disease alongside other models of organ fibrosis. With a background spanning molecular biology, therapeutic development, and spatial biology, I aim to advance studies that connect detailed tissue analysis with potential clinical applications. I welcome opportunities for collaborative research in chronic kidney disease and other fibrosis-related conditions. -

Kimberly DeQuattro, MD, MM
Clinical Assistant Professor, Medicine - Immunology & Rheumatology
BioDr. Kimberly DeQuattro is a board-certified, rheumatologist at Stanford Health Care and a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Immunology and Rheumatology at Stanford University School of Medicine.
Dr. DeQuattro specializes in the care of people with systemic lupus erythematosus as well as adolescents and young adults with childhood onset rheumatologic conditions. Her clinical focus includes systemic lupus erythematosus, lupus nephritis, juvenile idiopathicarthritis, and the transition from pediatric to adult rheumatology care.
She has special expertise in treating complex lupus, including kidney disease (lupus nephritis) and reproductive health concerns linked to autoimmune conditions. Her team-based, trauma-informed approach considers not only medical needs but also social factors that affect health, making sure care is fair and comprehensive.
Her research looks at how lupus affects people differently, especially in underserved groups, and how stress and trauma can impact the course of the disease. She also studies ways to help young patients move smoothly from pediatric to adult care. Dr. DeQuattro has helped lead team-based lupus clinics and support programs that include social workers. She also works on clinical trials testing new treatments, including CAR T-cell therapy, for patients with hard-to-treat lupus.
Dr. DeQuattro’s work has been featured at national meetings including the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) and the Society of General Internal Medicine. She has authored book chapters and collaborated on more than 20 articles in peer-reviewed publications, including Arthritis Care & Research, Lupus Science & Medicine, and Rheumatology. Her work has covered topics such as lupus, lupus nephritis, pediatric to adult rheumatology, and health equity. In 2024 and 2025, she contributed to the ACR’s updated clinical guidelines for lupus nephritis and lupus. She serves on key ACR working groups.
She is a member of the American College of Rheumatology and the Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance. -
Stanley Deresinski
Clinical Professor, Medicine - Infectious Diseases
BioDr. Deresinski received his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine and received training in Internal Medicine there and at Stanford, where he also completed a fellowship in Infectious Diseases. For 3 decades, he maintained a private practice in Infectious Disease, HIV, and Travel Medicine and was Hospital Epidemiologist at Sequoia Hospital where he also served as President of the Medical Staff for 2 years. He was also Associate Chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases and for 14 years was Director of the AIDS Program at the Santa Valley Medical Center, a Stanford-affiliated public teaching hospital. During that time he won several teaching awards at Stanford. In 1987, he founded the AIDS Community Research Consortium, serving as its Medical Director and Chairman of the Board for almost 2 decades. He was also Site Principal Investigator for the Stanford ACTU and the California Collaborative Treatment Group and has worked on AIDS education in Kampala, Uganda. Dr. Deresinski is currently Clinical Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases and Geographic Medicine at Stanford and is Medical Director of the Stanford Antimicrobial Stewardship Program and Chair of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and of the Specialty Drugs Subcommittee. He has special interests in antimicrobial resistance, optimal antimicrobial use, fungal infections, and infections in immunocomopromised hosts.
Dr. Deresinski has published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers as well as number of book chapters. He is a Section Editor of Clinical Infectious Diseases and is a past Chair of the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) Standards and Practice Guidelines Committee as well as member of the IDSA Board of Directors. He is a member of the HIVMA, in addition to a number of other societies including SHEA and is a Fellow in the American College of Physicians as well as IDSA. He is a past winner of the IDSA Watanakunokorn Clinician of the YearAward. -
Laura T Derry

BioDr. Laura (Trollinger) Derry is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine and hospitalist specializing in the care of complex medical and surgical patients. She completed her medical training at the University of North Carolina (UNC) School of Medicine and Internal Medicine residency at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), where she was part of the Health Systems Leadership (HSL) Pathway. She also holds an MBA from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business, specializing in health sector management and leadership.
Beyond clinical care, Dr. Derry conducts research at the intersection of artificial intelligence and medicine, exploring how large language models and machine learning can enhance physician decision-making, disease diagnosis, and healthcare delivery. She received one of the inaugural SMART-HM grants through the Stanford Division of Hospital Medicine to support her research. Dr. Derry is actively involved in quality improvement initiatives within the Division of Hospital Medicine and member of the Orthopedics Quality Council. She also serves as a faculty advisor and instructor for the Stanford Healthcare Consulting Group (SHCG), mentoring students in healthcare strategy, operations, and quality improvement.
Before her medical career, Dr. Derry worked as a strategy consultant, applying data-driven insights to optimize clinical operations and care delivery. Her expertise in clinical operations, quality improvement, and digital strategy continues to shape her work at Stanford and beyond. -

Joseph M. DeSimone

BioJoseph M. DeSimone is the Sanjiv Sam Gambhir Professor of Translational Medicine and Chemical Engineering at Stanford University. He holds appointments in the Departments of Radiology and Chemical Engineering with courtesy appointments in the Department of Chemistry and in Stanford’s Graduate School of Business.
The DeSimone laboratory's research efforts are focused on developing innovative, interdisciplinary solutions to complex problems centered around advanced polymer 3D fabrication methods. In Chemical Engineering and Materials Science, the lab is pursuing new capabilities in digital 3D printing, as well as the synthesis of new polymers for use in advanced additive technologies. In Translational Medicine, research is focused on exploiting 3D digital fabrication tools to engineer new vaccine platforms, enhanced drug delivery approaches, and improved medical devices for numerous conditions, with a current major focus in pediatrics. Complementing these research areas, the DeSimone group has a third focus in Entrepreneurship, Digital Transformation, and Manufacturing.
Before joining Stanford in 2020, DeSimone was a professor of chemistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and of chemical engineering at North Carolina State University. He is also Co-founder, Board Chair, and former CEO (2014 - 2019) of the additive manufacturing company, Carbon. DeSimone is responsible for numerous breakthroughs in his career in areas including green chemistry, medical devices, nanomedicine, and 3D printing. He has published over 350 scientific articles and is a named inventor on over 200 issued patents. Additionally, he has mentored 80 students through Ph.D. completion in his career, half of whom are women and members of underrepresented groups in STEM.
In 2016 DeSimone was recognized by President Barack Obama with the National Medal of Technology and Innovation, the highest U.S. honor for achievement and leadership in advancing technological progress. He has received numerous other major awards in his career, including the U.S. Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award (1997); the American Chemical Society Award for Creative Invention (2005); the Lemelson-MIT Prize (2008); the NIH Director’s Pioneer Award (2009); the AAAS Mentor Award (2010); the Heinz Award for Technology, the Economy and Employment (2017); the Wilhelm Exner Medal (2019); the EY Entrepreneur of the Year Award (2019 U.S. Overall National Winner); and the Harvey Prize in Science and Technology (2020). He is one of only 25 individuals elected to all three branches of the U.S. National Academies (Sciences, Medicine, Engineering). DeSimone received his B.S. in Chemistry in 1986 from Ursinus College and his Ph.D. in Chemistry in 1990 from Virginia Tech. -

She was a site co-Investigator for the I-PASS study at Stanford and the site Principal Investigator for the PCORI grant, Bringing I-PASS to the Bedside: A Communication Bundle to Improve Patient Safety and Experience. He completed his residency training at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and fellowship training in Rhinology and Skull Base Surgery at Oregon Health & Science University. He enjoys treating patients across a wide range of Otolaryngology conditions with a special emphasis on sinonasal and skull base disorders. His research interests include mechanisms of chronic rhinosinusitis, olfaction, and treatment of sinonasal and skull base tumors.

Shazia Dharssi, MD

BioDr. Shazia Dharssi is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained oculoplastic and reconstructive surgeon with Stanford Health Care. She is also a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Ophthalmology, Division of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine.
Dr. Dharssi specializes in diagnosing and treating conditions that affect the eyelid and surrounding structures of the orbit. She specializes in advanced oculoplastic and reconstructive surgery, including both functional and cosmetic eyelid surgery, tear duct surgery, and orbital surgeries. Her expertise also includes diagnosing and treating facial nerve palsy, ptosis, thyroid eye disease, ocular cancers, and skin cancer that affects the eyes. Dr. Dharssi is dedicated to providing personalized, high-quality care to achieve the best possible outcomes for her patients.
Dr. Dharssi’s research focuses on applying deep learning and related computational tools to improve the diagnosis and treatment of ocular diseases, including age-related macular degeneration. She is particularly interested in developing technologies that enhance precision, efficiency, and patient outcomes in ophthalmic care. Her long-term goal is to integrate these innovations into the field of oculoplastic surgery to advance both functional and reconstructive outcomes.
Dr. Dharssi has published her research in peer-reviewed journals, such as Ophthalmic Epidemiology, Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Journal of Academic Ophthalmology, and Ophthalmology. She has presented to her peers at international and national meetings, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS), the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), and Women in Ophthalmology (WIO).
Dr. Dharssi is a candidate member of ASOPRS and a member of AAO, ARVO, and WIO. -

3. Impact of airway hypoxia, due to lack of bronchial circulation, on long-term lung transplant outcomes.
4. CMV specific T-cell immunity in lung transplant recipients and its impact on acute rejection. -
