Malathi Srinivasan

BioDr. Srinivasan is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at Stanford University, Associate Director at the Stanford Center for Asian Healthcare Research and Education (Stanford CARE), Director of the Stanford CARE Scholars research program, Director of the Stanford Implementation Sciences Fellowship, Fellow at the Stanford Center for Innovation in Global Health (CIGH), Board Member for the Stanford Health Professions Education and Scholars (SHaPES, formerly CTSS), and member of the Stanford Teaching and Mentoring Academy (TMA). She is co-Director of the One Health Teaching Scholars Faculty Development Program, an international program focusing on faculty development for health professions education around the world. She was a regular contributor to CBS-KPIX “Medical Mondays”. Dr. Srinivasan brings her skills as an educator, physician, health services researcher, and entrepreneur to considering how scalable technologies can improve health care. Her work in Virtual Health/telemedicine and new patient engagement models has been published in the NEJM Catalyst – a leading healthcare innovation journal.
Previously, Dr. Srinivasan was a Master Clinical Educator and Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of California, Davis School of Medicine. She was the Senior Associate Editor and Editorial Fellowship Director for the Journal of General Internal Medicine, and was the Kimitaka Kaga Visiting Professor at the University of Tokyo at the International Research Center for Medical Education. At UC Davis, Dr. Srinivasan was the Director of Practice Based Learning and Improvement and Medical Director of the Clinical Performance Examination for a decade. She is former President of the California-Hawaii Society of General Internal Medicine, and ex-officio National Council Member for SGIM. She was a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Generalist Physician Faculty Scholar and US Health and Human Service Public Policy Fellow. Dr. Srinivasan has been awarded the California SGIM Educator of the Year Award, Mentor of the Year (California American College of Physicians), and Faculty of the Year (Stanford CARE), and was recognized with the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Education (UC Davis). Her research has focused on two themes. First, addressing health disparities for vulnerable populations, and improving the health of Asians through research & systems change. Second, improving physician competency around clinical decision-making, through Virtual Health, technology-aided education and reflective practice.
Dr. Srinivasan has been working in the Stanford Medical Humanities & the Arts program, as Director of the Medicine, Movement & Dance program, and building patient-facing programs n Medical Humanities She serves on the Executive Board of The Pegasus Physician Writers Program, and enjoys her time as a novice creative writer. -

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsMarcia L. Stefanick, Ph.D is a Professor of Medicine Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and by courtesy, Professor of Epidemiology and Population Health at Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. Stefanick’s research focuses on chronic disease prevention (particularly, heart disease, breast cancer, osteoporosis, and dementia) in both women and men. She is currently the Principal Investigator the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) Extension Study, having been the PI of the Stanford Clinical Center of the landmark WHI Clinical Trials and Observational Study since 1994 and Chair of the WHI Steering and Executive Committees from 1998-2011, as well as PI of the WHI Strong and Healthy (WHISH) Trial which is testing the hypothesis that a DHHS-based physical activity intervention, being delivered to a multi-ethnic cohort of about 24,000 WHI participants across the U.S., aged 68-99 when the trial started in 2015, will reduce major cardiovascular events over 8 years, compared to an equal number of “usual activity” controls. Dr. Stefanick is also PI of the Osteoporotic Study of Men (MrOS) which is continuing to conduct clinical assessments of bone and body composition in survivors of an original cohort of nearly 6000 men aged 65 and over in 2001. As founding Director of the Stanford Women’s Health and Sex Differences in Medicine (WHSDM, “wisdom”) Center, she plays a major role in promoting research and teaching on Sex and Gender in Human Physiology and Disease, Women’s Health and Queer Health and Medicine. Dr. Stefanick also plays major leadership roles at the Stanford School of Medicine, including as co-leader of the Population Sciences Program of the Stanford Cancer Institute, Stanford’s NCI-funded comprehensive cancer center.
Dr. Stefanick obtained her B.A. in biology from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA (1974), then pursued her interest in hormone and sex difference research at the Oregon Regional Primate Research Center, after which she obtained her PhD in Physiology at Stanford University, focusing on reproductive physiology and neuroendocrinology, with exercise physiology as a secondary focus. Her commitment to human research led to a post-doctoral fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease Prevention at the Stanford Prevention Research Center, which has been her academic home for nearly 40 years. -

Sarah Streett
Clinical Professor, Medicine - Gastroenterology & Hepatology
BioDr. Sarah Streett is a Clinical Professor of Medicine, the Director of Inflammatory Bowel Disease Education at Stanford, and she is passionate about taking care of people with IBD. She is a national expert in treating complex IBD and initiated a multi-disciplinary approach to care with colorectal surgery, pediatrics, and nutrition. In 2018 she received the Champion of Hope Award from the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation and serves on their National Scientific Advisory Committee. Her interests focus on fertility and pregnancy in people with IBD, developing precision approaches to IBD therapy, and the role that the microbiome and diet play in its pathogenesis. She is a primary investigator of the Stanford IBD Registry and has research projects focused on optimizing clinical outcomes in IBD, the role of the microbiota and diet in IBD and pregnancy, and applying new technologies to individualizing therapy for IBD. She is also the primary investigator on multiple industry-sponsored IBD trials.
Teaching is a top priority for Dr. Streett who feels that mentoring fellows in the development of their careers is a privilege. She has held many national leadership roles in the American Gastroenterological Association, where she has been Chair of the Practice Management and Economics Committee, and currently serves on the Government Affairs Committee. She also an appointed member of the Gastrointestinal Drug Advisory Committee at the FDA. She has represented the interests of gastroenterologists and their patients on Capitol Hill numerous times. Dr. Streett believes strongly in a collaborative approach to give patients personalized care based on the latest therapies for the treatment of IBD and is committed to mentoring the next generation of experts in the field. -

Ashley Styczynski

BioAshley Styczynski, MD, MPH, is an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases & Geographic Medicine and Global Health Faculty Fellow, and a Medical Officer in the International Infection and Control Branch at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Dr. Styczynski's research interests are in infectious disease epidemiology, global health, emerging infections, and antimicrobial resistance. She holds an MPH from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and an MD from University of Illinois at Chicago. Prior to coming to Stanford for her infectious disease fellowship, she spent two years as an Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) Officer at the CDC. During her time as an EIS officer, Dr. Styczynski conducted outbreak investigations on Zika virus, vaccinia virus, and rabies. She is currently conducting research on antimicrobial resistance and interventions to reduce nosocomial infections within low-resource healthcare facilities globally.

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsMy research and scholarly interests have focused on tailoring antimicrobial prophylaxis in specific highly immunocompromised hosts depending on their specific infectious disease risks. I am interested in developing diagnostic algorithms and treatment protocols that will improve the quality of care in transplant and oncology patients.
I also have an interest in training ID fellows in this very specialized area of patient care. To that end, we have started a new ICHS ID fellowship with a specialized curriculum and are developing supplemental educational materials to enhance this training, which can be implemented at other academic training centers. -

Takeshi Sugio

BioI am a physician-scientist and hematologist focused on clinical translation of T-cell biology. I received my MD from Kyushu University, and subsequently completed Residency Training at Toranomon Hospital, the largest transplant center in Japan. I continued my Hematology training at Kyushu University, where I qualified as a Board-certified specialist (2017) and supervisory hematologist (2021) by the Japanese Society of Hematology. For my PhD (2014-19), I studied expression profiles and histologic features of TCLs. I discovered distinct TCL clinical groups identified by infiltrating immune cell patterns in the microenvironment. Based on my dissertation work (Sugio, et al 2018 Blood Advances), I planned and conducted a Phase II trial of PD1 inhibition for relapsed/refractory TCL (UMIN000034499). I joined the Alizadeh lab at Stanford in 2021, where I am developing tools to analyze immune status using liquid biopsies.

Walter Sujansky

BioWalter Sujansky, MD PhD is an Adjunct Professor of Biomedical Informatics at the Stanford Center for Biomedical Informatics Research in the Stanford Department of Medicine. Dr. Sujansky co-teaches BMI-210 Modeling Biomedical Systems, where he lectures on a variety of topics, including deep neural networks, probabilistic reasoning, electronic health records, and health data integration and interoperability. He also advises students in the Biomedical Data Science Graduate Program, an interdisciplinary graduate and postdoctoral training program that is part of the Department of Biomedical Data Science. His research interests include the modeling of biomedical concepts based on formal logic and the engineering of features for biomedical machine learning algorithms.
Dr. Sujansky earned an M.D. and a Ph.D. in Medical Informatics from Stanford University, where his doctoral research addressed heterogeneous database integration and clinical decision support. He also earned a B.A. in Economics from Harvard University.
Dr. Sujansky is also the managing consultant at Sujansky & Associates, LLC, a consulting firm that specializes in the representation, management, and analysis of clinical data in information systems. In this capacity, his work focuses on the modeling of complex biomedical data related to patient phenotyping, clinical genomics, quality measurement, automated decision support, and machine learning. His firm has helped to develop shared computing resources such as the California Joint Replacement Registry and the Laboratory Interoperability Data Repository. The firm's clients include the federal and state governments, non-profit organizations, health information system developers, and drug/device manufacturers. Dr. Sujansky also provides forensic analysis of health information technologies for medical malpractice and intellectual property litigation. -

Arthur Sung, MD, FCCP
Clinical Professor, Medicine - Pulmonary, Allergy & Critical Care Medicine
BioDr. Sung is a highly esteemed, fellowship-trained interventional pulmonologist and a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians.
He is the senior associate chief of the Stanford Medicine Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine. He founded the interventional pulmonology and bronchoscopy for Stanford Medicine in 2013. With Stanford University School of Medicine, he is a clinical associate professor of medicine – pulmonary, allergy and critical care medicine.
In his clinical practice, Dr. Sung delivers care at Stanford Medicine sites in both Palo Alto, Emeryville and Livermore. He is a recognized expert in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions involving the chest and lungs, including complex airway diseases.
Patients praise the quality of his care and excellent listening skills. They highlight his ability to answer questions and to explain medical conditions and treatment options clearly and compassionately.
To advance the field of pulmonology, Dr. Sung is conducting research in airways diseases. He is a principal investigator of a study of variables in computed tomography imaging used to support diagnostic and treatment approaches. He previously served as the site principal investigator for lung volume reduction procedure for COPD.
Dr. Sung has co-authored articles published in the Journal of Thoracic Oncology, Clinical Lung Cancer, Journal of Thoracic Imaging, Chest, and elsewhere. Topics have included innovations in therapy for pneumonitis and robotic surgical treatment of lung tumors.
He has written chapters for books such as Principles and Practice of Interventional Pulmonology, Examination of the Larynx through the Bronchoscope, and Airway Anatomy for the Bronchoscopist.
Dr. Sung has made presentations to the American Thoracic Society, American College of Chest Physicians, and American Association of Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology. Topics have included lung cancer staging in the era of personalized medicine.
Dr. Sung has earned recognition from the College of Chest Physicians. The Stanford Leadership Program has recognized his achievements. From the Stanford University Bio-X program, he received a grant to study ultrasound-guided lung biopsy procedures. The Bio-X program fosters interdisciplinary collaboration among biomedical and life science researchers, clinicians, engineers, physicists, and computational scientists.
He is a member of the American Thoracic Society, American College of Chest Physicians, and American Association of Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology. BioDr. Tabaka is a board-certified family medicine physician with a special focus in LGBTQ+ and underserved medicine. She is also a clinical assistant professor in the Division of Primary Care and Population Health of Stanford Department of Medicine. Suzanne Tamang

BioDr. Suzanne Tamang an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Immunology and Rheumatology and a Faculty Fellow at the Stanford Center for Population Health Sciences. She is also the Computation Systems Evaluation Lead at the VA Office of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention's Program Evaluation Resource Center. Dr. Tamang uses her training in biology, computer science, health services research and biomedical informatics to work with interdisciplinary teams of experts on population health problems of public interest. Integral to her research, is the analysis of large and complex population-based datasets, using techniques from natural language processing, machine learning and deep learning. Her expertise spans US and Danish population-based registries, Electronic Medical Records from various vendors, administrative healthcare claims and other types of observational health and demographic data sources in the US and internationally; also, constructing, populating and applying knowledge-bases for automated reasoning. Dr. Tamang has developed open-source tools for the extraction of health information from unstructured free-text clinical progress notes and licensed machine learning prediction models to Silicon Valley health analytics startups. She is the faculty mentor for the Stanford community working group Stats for Social Good.

Clinical Associate Professor (By courtesy), Pediatrics - EndocrinologyBioDr. Tanenbaum is a clinical researcher committed to improving health and quality of life outcomes for people with diabetes. Dr. Tanenbaum’s research focuses on two main areas: 1) understanding and optimizing the role of technology (e.g. mobile technology/mHealth, diabetes devices, closed-loop systems), and the feedback technology provides, to improve diabetes management; and 2) understanding the emotional experience of living with diabetes. Her recent work has focused on developing a telehealth-based behavioral intervention for adults with type 1 diabetes to support adoption and sustained use of continuous glucose monitoring technology. She has expertise in using qualitative and mixed methods to take a human centered approach to understanding the context of living with and managing a chronic condition. Dr. Tanenbaum also has an interest in compassion-based approaches to addressing diabetes distress. As a licensed clinical psychologist, Dr. Tanenbaum provides consultation and behavioral medicine interventions with people living with diabetes.

Paul C Tang

BioDr. Tang is Adjunct Professor in the Clinical Excellence Research Center at Stanford University and a practicing internist at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation. Most recently, he was Vice President, Chief Health Transformation Officer at IBM Watson Health. He has served in executive administration roles in health systems for over 25 years. Prior to joining Watson Health, Dr. Tang was Vice President, Chief Innovation and Technology Officer at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation (PAMF), directing the David Druker Center for Health Systems Innovation, a disruptive innovation center focused on grand challenges in health. Dr. Tang led one of the earliest implementations of an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system in the country in 1996, and in 2000, he co-developed MyChart, the first commercial patient portal, with Epic.
Dr. Tang is an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine, and has served on numerous NAM study committees, including a patient-safety committee he chaired that published two reports: Patient Safety: A New Standard for Care, and Key Capabilities of an Electronic Health Record System. He is a member of the Health and Medicine Division committee of the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine. Dr. Tang was co-chair of the federal Health Information Technology Policy committee from 2009-2017. He has served as board chair for several health informatics professional associations, including the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA). He has served on the boards of AMIA, National Quality Forum, AcademyHealth, Computer-based Patient Record Institute, Joint Health Information Technology Alliance, NAM Board on Health Care Services, and National eHealth Collaborative. Dr. Tang is a recipient of the Nicholas E. Davies Award for Excellence in Computer-based Patient Record System Implementation, and the AMIA Don E. Detmer Award for Health Policy Contributions in Informatics. He currently holds one patent and has 16 patents pending. He has published numerous papers in medical informatics, appearing in New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, Health Affairs, Annals of Internal Medicine, and Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association. Dr. Tang is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, the American College of Medical Informatics, the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives, and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society.
He received his B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University and his M.D. from the University of California, San Francisco. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Stanford University and is a board-certified practicing internist at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation. -
Melinda L. Telli, M.D.

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsMy research focuses on the development of novel therapies for the treatment of triple-negative and hereditary cancer. Other areas of interest include prevention of cardiac damage associated with breast cancer treatment and cardiotoxicity of anti-cancer agents.

Valerie Teng

BioDr. Valerie Teng is a board certified family physician with special interests in preventative medicine and women's health. Her experiences in caring for patients with chronic conditions, such as diabetes and hypertension, have fueled her desire to partner with patients to enter healthier lifestyles. She is also passionate about providing comprehensive care to patients of all ages, including newborns and teens.
During her residency training, Dr. Teng explored many opportunities in medical education through the O’Connor-Stanford Leaders in Education Residency (OSLER) program. She is delighted to continue in medical education as a part of the faculty at Stanford Family Medicine. -
Jeffrey Teuteberg

On Leave from 12/15/2025 To 12/14/2027BioHe is currently a Professor of Medicine at Stanford, but is no longer seeing patients as he is on leave and working with industry.
His research interests are in clinical outcomes in patients after transplant and mechanical support as well as novel approaches to immunosuppression. He has participated in many single-center and multi-institutional research studies and has published widely in the fields of transplant and mechanical support. He served as President of the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation in 2018. -
Winifred Teuteberg
Clinical Professor, Medicine - Primary Care and Population Health
BioDr. Teuteberg completed residency training in Internal Medicine at the University of Chicago and a Palliative Medicine Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital. She joined the faculty at Stanford in 2017 and currently sees patients as a part of the inpatient palliative care consult team at Stanford Healthcare.
She has been the clinical director or Stanford Medicine's implementation of the Ariadne Labs' Serious Illness Care Program since its inception in 2018. Her interests include communication skills training, leveraging predictive algorithms to identify patients who would most benefit from serious illness conversations, how to empower non-physician clinical team members to participate in this work, and best practice for EHR builds related to advance care planning. -

Dr. Tezcan is a medical oncologist and hematologist with over three decades of diverse experience in cancer management and research.
He is leading the clinical development of Droplet Biosciences' novel liquid biopsy technology, a first-in-class lymphatic fluid molecular residual disease assessment, overseeing the scientific and clinical development of the technology. With over three decades of direct patient care and clinical trial experience as a principal investigator and director, both in academia and private practice, he has a firsthand understanding of the unmet clinical needs of physicians and patients, as well as broad experience in clinical trial design and implementation.
He is also co-principal at Athea Oncology, guiding practices and hospitals in developing clinical trial programs and high-value real-world data collection and diagnostic companies in clinical development. He is also a reviewer of JCO Precision Medicine.
Before joining Athea Oncology and Droplet Biosciences, he was the co-founder of LexentBio, which was successfully acquired by Roche/FMI. He also served as Director of Translational Medicine at Genomic Health and as Vice President, leading oncology development at Counsyl, where he integrated science with clinical product development. He established the CA.RE.foundation, a cancer research foundation dedicated to enabling the execution of clinical trials across community oncology sites throughout the Northwest US. He has independently built multiple software tools to help oncologists navigate the practical realities of their daily work. -

Julie Ngoc Thai, MD, MPH
Clinical Assistant Professor, Medicine - Primary Care and Population Health
BioDr. Thai is a fellowship-trained specialist in geriatric medicine. She provides care at the Stanford Senior Care Clinic.
She completed her fellowship training at the University of California, San Francisco. She is board-certified in family medicine through the American Board of Family Medicine .
Dr. Thai earned her medical degree from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. She completed her residency in family medicine at McLaren Flint/Michigan State University College of Human Medicine where she served as chief resident.
She also holds a Master of Public Health degree from Columbia University.
Dr. Thai has a background in clinical and population health research. She recently received a grant from the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Foundation to study the role of motivational interviewing in smoking cessation.
She contributed to research in rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and ankylosing spondylitis in the Division of Rheumatology, Department of Medicine at Cedars Sinai Medical Center.
Dr. Thai was also an endourology research fellow in the Department of Urology at Mount Sinai Health System. Research focused on renal stone disease, clinical markers and outcomes, and testing and development of new technologies.
She has co-authored articles on topics such as caregivers’ communication with elders living with late-life disability, palliative care practices in diverse settings, and the social consequences of forgetfulness and Alzheimer’s disease. These articles appeared in the American Journal of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, Journal of Palliative Medicine, Journal of Mental Health Aging, and other peer-reviewed journals
Dr. Thai is a member of the American Geriatrics Society, American Academy of Family Physicians, and California Academy of Family Physicians. She is also an inductee of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
She has volunteered with homeless shelters, women’s advocacy groups, Goodwill, the American Red Cross, and AmeriCorps.
Dr. Thai is fluent in English and proficient in speaking Vietnamese. -
Lindsay Thomas, RN, MS, CNS

BioMs. Lindsay Thomas earned her BA in Integrative Biology from UC Berkeley in 2003 and her RN and MS from UCSF in 2006 and 2009 respectively. She completed a Double Master’s in Cardiovascular Nursing and Genomics and is a board certified clinical nurse specialist in critical care nursing. She joined the Stanford Interventional Cardiology Team in 2011 where she has pioneered the advanced practice nursing role in the cath lab and been a leader in the development of the Left Atrial Appendage Closure program. She serves as adjunct faculty for the UCSF graduate nursing program and is the co-chair of the Northern California Chapter of the Preventative Cardiovascular Nurses Association. Lindsay specializes in treating and caring for patients with established coronary artery disease and cardiovascular risk factors; she strives to provide excellent patient care and education to optimize a heart healthy life style to promote wellness with use of medications and invasive procedures when life style alone is not enough to achieve desired results. When not working Lindsay is an outdoor and exercise enthusiast, who enjoys participating in various endurance activities and has completed several triathlons. She also enjoys reading and discussions with her book club, going to the theater, and spending quality time with her friends and family.

Stefan Thottunkal is an Australian medical student, early career researcher and civil servant. His research interests include chronic disease, Native health, and pharmacogenomics. He is particularly interested in pioneering deployment of innovative technologies in clinical settings, utilizing approaches grounded in implementation science. Stefan received an IIE QUAD Fellowship in 2024 to study a Masters of Community Health and Prevention Research at Stanford.
His current work focuses on precision medicine, advancing implementation of pharmacogenomic testing into clinical practice through leveraging machine learning and large language models to enhance clinical decision-making. He is actively seeking collaboration with those specialised in knowledge-grounded natural language processing and retrieval augmented generation.
Stefan has worked on high impact initiatives conducted in collaboration with the WHO Global Outbreak and Response Network, Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organization. He is passionate about bridging the gap between research, policy, and practice to drive meaningful change.
