Prashanth Krishnamohan, MD

Clinical Associate Professor (By courtesy), NeurosurgeryBioDr. Krishnamohan is a board-certified, fellowship-trained neurologist. He is a clinical assistant professor of neurology and neurological sciences and, by courtesy, of neurosurgery at Stanford University School of Medicine. In addition, he is Medical Director of the Neurosciences Service Line at Stanford Health Care – ValleyCare and is Medical Director of its Stroke program.
Dr. Krishnamohan excels in the diagnosis and treatment of neurological conditions. His clinical interests include the management of stroke, epilepsy, concussion, and coma. With every patient, his goal is to provide personalized care designed to optimize neurological function for the best possible clinical outcome and quality of life.
He has published extensively on topics including innovations in stroke care quality management and measurement, rapid bedside evaluation of seizures in the ICU, and EEG metrics in comatose cardiac arrest patients. Articles by Dr. Krishnamohan have appeared in Neuroanesthesia and Neurocritical Care, Quality Management in Healthcare, Current Infectious Disease Reports, and other journals. He has presented his research findings at the annual meetings of the Neurocritical Care Society and American Academy of Neurology.
He has authored chapters on post-concussive syndrome, stroke, and other conditions for the guidebook Ferri’s Clinical Advisor. In addition, he is a reviewer for the Journal of Neuroscience Nursing, Neurohospitalist, and the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Psychiatry.
Dr. Krishnamohan has won recognition from Stanford Health Care, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement Open School, the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, and PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research – the latter two his alma maters.
Dr. Krishnamohan is a member of the Neurocritical Care Society, American Academy of Neurology, and American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. He volunteers as a community health educator with numerous organizations. -
Anandi Krishnan

Visiting Scholar, Institute for Immunity, Transplantation, and Infection OperationsBioDr. Krishnan is a translational scientist with experiences in engineering, biosciences, molecular genetics and hematology. Having recently completed her NIH clinical scientist career development award (NHGRI 1K08HG010061-01A1, 2018-24), and NIH-supported research re-entry (NCATS 3UL1TR001085-04S1, 2016-18), Anandi’s interests are in expanding our understanding of the multifaceted function of anucleate blood platelets and their parent megakaryocytes in human disease.
Her current work, applying platelet transcriptome profiling and machine learning principles, aims to nominate novel clinically relevant strategies for personalized cancer and antiplatelet/antithrombotic therapy. Continued development of this research is likely to identify key mechanistic variables in platelet- and megakaryocyte-specific response to health and disease.
Recent contributions in both computational and mechanistic components of platelet and blood research lay the groundwork for sustaining contributions to the field of hematology genomic medicine (e.g. Shen et al PMID 34755136, Seetharam et al PMID 36712071, Kelliher et al PMID 37961700, Thomas & Krishnan PMID 38175681, Abbonante et al PMID 38165147, Jutzi et al PMID 35763665, Campbell et al PMID 36194487). Anandi was also was one of the first non-MD PhD scientist to be awarded the NHGRI K08 Clinical Scientist Research Career Development Award, the HTRS Mid-Career Research Award, and the MPN Research Foundation Challenge Grant Award, reflecting her consistent efforts bridging basic and clinical disciplines.

Sara Marie Krzyzaniak

BioSara M. Krzyzaniak, MD, is a Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine and the Program Director for the Stanford Emergency Medicine Residency. She has held progressive leadership roles in undergraduate and graduate medical education since completing her Emergency Medicine residency training at Denver Health Medical Center, with prior faculty appointments at the University of Illinois College of Medicine before joining Stanford.
Dr. Krzyzaniak’s scholarly work focuses on medical education, with particular emphasis on gender equity, assessment and feedback, faculty development, and leadership training within academic medicine. She has authored more than forty peer-reviewed publications, multiple book chapters, and several volumes within the Education Theory Made Practical series. Her academic contributions also include more than one hundred invited national and international presentations.
At Stanford, Dr. Krzyzaniak teaches and mentors across all stages of medical education and holds administrative, curricular, and clinical teaching responsibilities. She serves on numerous institutional and national committees, contributes as an editorial board member and ad hoc reviewer for journals in both emergency medicine and medical education, and maintains an active portfolio of professional service. Her leadership and educational contributions have been recognized through multiple national awards for teaching excellence, mentorship, and program leadership.

Andre Kumar MD, MEd

BioDr. Andre Kumar is a Clinical Professor in the Stanford Division of Hospital Medicine with a passion for improving patient care through Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS), clinical research, and education. He earned his MD from Tulane University and completed his residency, chief residency, and a Master's in Education at Stanford University.
Dr. Kumar has extensive experience in creating, operationalizing, and leading multi-center clinical trials, including investigations related to POCUS, COVID-19 therapeutics, procedural safety, and the long-term health consequences of infections on the heart and lungs. He continues to conduct research and teach POCUS on a local and national level, and is committed to improving the science and education that underlie the next generation of diagnostic tools. Currently, his research focuses on the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on numerous healthcare applications, particularly for the improving the accuracy of clinician diagnosis, evidence-based management, and medical imaging.
Dr. Kumar is also a committed educator and mentor to the next generation of physicians. His contributions to medical education have been recognized with several awards, including the Lawrence H. Mathers Award for Exceptional Commitment to Teaching (2023), the Henry J. Kaiser Foundation Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching (2018, 2022), and the David A. Rytand Clinical Teaching Award (2018, 2022, and 2025). Dr. Kumar has contributed to the creation of free educational content for POCUS, including videos for the Stanford Medicine 25 series, New England Journal of Medicine, and JAMA, which have amassed over 1,000,000 views worldwide.
Dr. Kumar has held numerous leadership positions that reflect his commitment to advancing medical education and clinical practice. He is also the Co-Founder and Director of the SHAPE Program in the Stanford Internal Medicine Residency Program and Co-Director of Clinical Reasoning at Stanford School of Medicine. He previously served as President for the Society of Hospital Medicine Bay Area and Director of the Rathmann Medical Education Fellowship.

Parth I Kumar
Fellow in Graduate Medical Education
BioDr. Parth Kumar is a Glomerular Disease Fellow and previous Chief Fellow in the Division of Nephrology at Stanford University, where his clinical and scholarly work centers on glomerular pathology. A committed clinician educator, he was named Intern Teacher of the Year during his internal medicine residency at UC Irvine and has developed curricula across internal medicine, radiology, and community cardiology programs for audiences ranging from resident physicians to underserved high school students. He founded the Infectious Disease Interest Group at UCSF and has mentored medical students through case reports and research projects presented at national conferences. Selected as a 2025 GlomCon Fellow—one of roughly 150 chosen from more than 800 applicants for the Virtual Glomerular Disease Fellowship—he continues to deepen his expertise in glomerular disease. Dr. Kumar earned his M.D. with Distinction from UCSF and a B.A. with Honors in Molecular and Cell Biology from UC Berkeley.

BioMy current interests are in development of design and instrumentation of pre-clinical vision devices, to conduct non-invasive in vivo retinal imaging. I studied Physics with a concentration in optics during my time at University of Hyderabad, India and received a bachelors and masters degree in 2014. I then moved to USA to continue working in the field of optics at University of North Carolina at Charlotte to pursue my PhD, working on nanofabrication of broadband anti-reflective structures. My interest in vision science started with my job at University of Rochester as a research scientist, where I was involved in developing optical imaging tools using adaptive optics to study retinal diseases. My work was focused on development of fluorescence lifetime imaging techniques in humans and two photon fluorescence microscopy in mouse.

Christian Kunder

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsMy main interest is in understanding the biology of human neoplasms, using traditional histopathology, molecular genetic techniques, and other modalities. In particular, I am interested in soft tissue and genitourinary neoplasms, especially prostate cancer.
I am also interested in the classification and nomenclature of neoplasms and in practical research that helps us refine these, using a variety of techniques but still principally guided by histopathology.
I also work on developing next generation sequencing-based tests for genotyping tumors and in expanding the scope of this testing with the goal of identifying patients eligible for novel targeting therapies. -

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsWe study cancer biology, intestinal stem cells (ISC), and angiogenesis. We use primary organoid cultures of diverse tissues and tumor biopsies for immunotherapy modeling, oncogene functional screening and stem cell biology. Angiogenesis projects include blood-brain barrier regulation, stroke therapeutics and anti-angiogenic cancer therapy. ISC projects apply organoid culture and ko mice to injury-inducible vs homeostatic stem cells and symmetric division mechanisms.

Christin S Kuo
Assistant Professor of Pediatrics (Pulmonary Medicine)
BioDr. Kuo is a physician-scientist with expertise in single-cell genomics and pulmonary medicine. She has made pioneering contributions to pulmonary neuroendocrine cell (PNEC) biology by developing innovative strategies that established the first comprehensive framework for understanding the molecular and cellular diversity of normal PNECs and their roles in health and disease. Her discoveries have laid the foundation for this emerging field and her contributions are recognized internationally.
PNECs are exceedingly rare lung epithelial cells with specialized airway sensory, secretory, and stem cell functions. These neurosensory cells are thought to monitor airway oxygen, chemicals, mechanical deformation, infection, and injury, and serve as sentinels that signal this sensory information locally in the lung, to the brain through synapses with pulmonary sensory neurons and potentially globally throughout the body via secretion of myriad local signals and hormones. PNECs are also known to play critical roles in the control of breathing, cough, and respiratory physiology. Among their diverse physiologic functions, their response to injury has been most intensively studied in murine models and they are a cell of origin for high grade lung neuroendocrine tumors.
Dr. Kuo performed the first comprehensive anatomical mapping and lineage tracing studies of PNECs in mice which generated a foundational understanding of PNEC development (Kuo and Krasnow, Cell 2015). She also led single cell transcriptomic profiling studies that revealed a surprising diversity in PNEC sensors and signals (Kuo et al, eLife 2022). PNECs express over 25 different sensory receptor genes ("sensors") and over 40 different neuropeptide and peptide hormone genes ("signals"). Her scRNA-seq analysis of PNECs revealed a remarkable number and diversity of PNEC neuropeptide signals and their predicted cellular targets both within the lung and to innervating sensory neurons (Kuo et al., 2022, eLife).
In contrast to the advanced understanding of PNEC development, stem cell, and signaling function in mouse, little is known about human PNECs. To compare the findings of PNEC development, diversity, and function in mouse models to human diseases, her lab recently established a platform to systematically construct a human PNEC atlas. This foundational work created a molecular and anatomic framework for the entire human pulmonary neuroendocrine system and the diseases that are predicted to originate from distinct PNECs. Her lab has recently used this new PNEC atlas combined with single cell transcriptomic approaches to identify the molecular diversity of anatomically and functionally distinct human PNECs.
Dr. Kuo's studies with human models extends her lab’s current research aims to define the diverse neuroendocrine sensory and signaling interactions and the molecules that mediate them to their roles in lung cancer, neuroendocrine proliferative disorders such as diffuse idiopathic neuroendocrine cell hyperplasia (DIPNECH), neuroendocrine cell hyperplasia of infancy (NEHI) and major inflammatory and obstructive pulmonary diseases. Dr. Kuo’s lab engages a network of collaborators to develop and implement clinical protocols and strategically apply cutting-edge technologies to studying minor, but physiologically diverse airway sentinels.
