Jikai Jin
Ph.D. Student in Computational and Mathematical Engineering, admitted Autumn 2023
Masters Student in Computational and Mathematical Engineering, admitted Spring 2026BioI am currently a Ph.D. student of the The Institute for Computational and Mathematical Engineering (ICME) at Stanford university. Prior to joining Stanford, I obtained my bachelor degree in computational mathematics at the School of Mathematical Sciences, Peking University, fortunately having Prof. Liwei Wang as my research advisor. My research is highly interdisciplinary across machine learning, statistics, operations research. While primarily focusing on theoretical aspects, the ultimate goal of my research is to develop state-of-the-art solutions for important real-world problems.

Emerson Johnston
Master of Arts Student in History, admitted Winter 2025
Research Assistant for the Hoover Technology Policy Accelerator, HOOVER RESEARCHBioEmerson Johnston is a Research Assistant at the Hoover Institution’s Technology Policy Accelerator, where she works on the Stanford Emerging Technology Review and research related to emerging technologies and their impact on national security. She is currently on leave from Stanford’s MA program in the History of Science, Technology, Environment, and Medicine, where her thesis examines how institutional and historical legacies have shaped the framing of the internet as a telecommunications system rather than a civic or social space. More broadly, her research focuses on the sociocultural implications of digital platforms, algorithmic governance, and the intersection of technology and international policy. A first-generation, lower-income college student and a native of Los Angeles, California, she received an B.S. in ‘Politics, Philosophy, and Economics’ and in ‘History, Culture, and Law’, summa cum laude, from Northeastern University and an MA in International Policy from Stanford, where she is a Knight-Hennessy Scholar.

Mira Joseph
Juris Doctor Student, Law
BioI am currently studying solutions to residential instability in Oakland at the Changing Cities Research Lab at Stanford. I spent the previous year as a Research Associate at the Stanford Center for Racial Justice, leading an initiative on alternative first response programs in the Bay Area. Previously, I graduated magna cum laude from the University of Chicago with a B.A. in Sociology with honors and a specialization in computational methods. All of my work is dedicated to my late parent Polly, who still inspires me to be a more empathetic, thoughtful, curious, and rigorous researcher every day. In my free time, I love to play chess in the park and write sci-fi.
