Daniel Kraft, MD

BioDaniel Kraft is a Stanford and Harvard-trained physician-scientist, inventor, and entrepreneur with more than 25 years of experience across clinical practice, biomedical research, and healthcare innovation.
He earned his bachelor's degree in biochemistry from Brown University and his medical degree from Stanford University School of Medicine, completed the Harvard Combined Residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, and went on to fellowships in hematology, oncology, and bone marrow transplantation at Stanford and a postdoctoral research fellowship in the laboratory of Irving L. Weissman. He went on to serve on clinical faculty at UCSF in pediatric bone marrow transplantation, and as NIH-funded research faculty at Stanford.
His academic research has spanned stem cell biology and regenerative medicine, stem cell–derived immunotherapies for cancer, and the bioengineering of human T-cell differentiation, with work published in journals including Nature and Science. He holds medical device, immunology, and stem cell–related patents, and is the inventor of the MarrowMiner, an FDA-cleared device for minimally invasive bone marrow harvesting.
Dr. Kraft is the Founder and Chair of NextMed Health (formerly Exponential Medicine), Founder of Digital.Health, and Managing Partner of Continuum Health Ventures, an early-stage fund focused on democratizing health and improving healthspan. A frequent voice on the future of medicine, he has delivered four TED and two TEDMED talks and keynotes worldwide. He is also a member of the inaugural class of the Aspen Institute Health Innovators Fellowship and the Kauffman Fellows Society. -

BioIsabelle Krakowski, MD, PhD, is a Research Affiliate at the Center for Digital Health and Department of Dermatology at Stanford University working with the Linos Lab (Professor Eleni Linos).
She obtained both her medical degree and PhD at the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden. She is a fourth-year resident in dermatology at the Karolinska University Hospital.

Lironn Kraler, MD

BioDr. Kraler is a board-certified neurologist with subspecialty training in vascular neurology, and a Clinical Assistant Professor at Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. Kraler is also the Associate Program Director for the Vascular Neurology Fellowship at Stanford.
Before joining the faculty at Stanford, Dr. Kraler attended medical school at Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California where she was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha National Honor Society. She completed her residency training at Stanford Hospital where she served as chief resident, followed by her Vascular Neurology fellowship training at Stanford. She then completed a post-doctoral research fellowship at Stanford University’s Clinical Excellence Research Center (CERC) focused on addressing the high cost of care in US Hospitals.
Her research interests include improving access and quality of population health and developing high-value innovations in care delivery that decrease the cost of care while improving the quality to patients. In addition, she has a strong interest in medical education. Dr. Kraler has received recognition for outstanding medical student teaching from the Department of Neurology. -

BioHoping to become a social entrepreneur in a technical field, I'm passionate about innovating in science and technology for the common good. I started my journey as an entrepreneur at 14 by filing a provisional patent for a novel frequency-based mosquito repelling device, and I've since been engaged in scientific research throughout high school. My projects encompass the topics of polymer physics, machine learning, tissue engineering, and targeted hydrogel therapies (in endodontics and oncology). I've presented my research through oral presentations at the American Physical Society and Materials Research Society, and I'm published in the Journal of Ethics in Science and Technological Innovation. I've also completed internships in the field of biotechnology, with the most recent at Congruent Ventures, compiling an investment thesis on the green polymer market and specific upstream precursors for bioplastics. I plan to major in Chemical Engineering at Stanford.
In my free time, I blacksmith, I enjoy playing guitar, both performing in front of hundreds of people or campfire acoustic guitar, and I play golf, hopefully on the club team at Stanford. I also feel a strong drive to give back to the community through hands on service, primarily through education. I volunteer tutor ESL, math, and science and mentor elementary schoolers in STEM, for which I was awarded the Bronze President's Volunteer Service Award. -

Emma is a PhD candidate in Environment and Resources at Stanford University’s Emmett Interdisciplinary Program in Environment and Resources (E-IPER). She is co-advised by Marshall Burke (Global Environmental Policy) and Erin Mordecai (Biology) and is a Research Fellow in the Global Policy Lab (led by Solomon Hsiang). She is a Stanford Data Science Scholar, NSF Graduate Research Fellow, and Stanford Edge Fellow.
Emma's dissertation research is united by the question: how can we protect human health in the face of intensifying and extreme environmental change? We live in an era where humans are impacting and are impacted by their environment at an unprecedented scale. Natural disasters such as wildfires are growing in size and severity, while tropical cyclones are intensifying and leading to lasting damage. Her research aims to contribute to a body of evidence that measures how extreme climate events lead to environmental degradation, harmful exposures, and disease outcomes as a way to better prepare for and prevent future impacts.
Prior to starting her PhD, Emma worked as a Research Analyst at the Global Policy Lab at UC Berkeley (now at Stanford). During her time at GPL, she was part of a project that aimed to identify land-based sources of non-point source water pollution in national-scale river systems in New Zealand and the US Mississippi River Basin. Emma completed her MPH in global and environmental health science and global health at Columbia University and received a BA in behavioral neuroscience from Colgate University.
When she is not at her desk, you can find her outside - most likely running or hiking up a mountain. She also co-founded a trivia company called aeroTRIV and loves to host bespoke trivia nights to bring communities together. -
Ian H. Kratter, MD, PhD
Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences
BioDr. Kratter is an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University School of Medicine. He is also an adult psychiatrist and fellowship-trained neuropsychiatrist and provides ongoing mentorship and leadership in the Stanford Brain Stimulation Laboratory.
His clinical interests include the psychiatric and cognitive aspects of movement disorders like Parkinson's and Tourette's as well as depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and non-invasive and invasive neuromodulation for neuropsychiatric illness.
His research interests focus on assessing outcomes and understanding the mechanisms of both neuromodulatory and novel pharmacological treatments. This includes both clinical and more mechanistic studies, such as using techniques like repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) and deep brain stimulation in combination with neuroimaging and electrophysiology. He has been a co-investigator for such studies focusing on obsessive-compulsive disorder, major depressive disorder, and suicidal ideation, and traumatic brain injury.
His work has appeared in a number of scientific journals including Nature Medicine, American Journal of Psychiatry, Journal of Clinical Investigation, Translational Psychiatry, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Science. He also co-authored the chapter on major depression in the textbook Deep Brain Stimulation: Techniques and Practice. -
Emily Kraus

BioDr. Kraus is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Stanford Children’s Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Center trained in the specialty of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) sports medicine. She has research and clinical interests in endurance sports medicine, injury prevention, running biomechanics, prevention of bone stress injuries, and the promotion of health and wellness at any age of life. Dr. Kraus is the director of the FASTR Program, which stands for Female Athlete Science and Translational Research. The FASTR program is supported by the Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance and seeks to close the gender gap in sports science research with an emphasis on early identification and interventions to prevent injury and identify ways to optimize performance in female athletes. Dr. Kraus is also a member of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee Women's Health Task Force and is the medical director of the Stanford Children's Motion Analysis and Sport Performance Lab. She has completed nine marathons including the Boston Marathon twice and one 50k ultramarathon. With running and staying physically active as one of her personal passions, she recognizes the importance of fitness for overall wellbeing and the prevention of chronic medical conditions.

BioChristopher B. Krebs studied classics and philosophy in Berlin, Kiel (1st Staatsexamen 2000, Ph. D. 2003), and Oxford (M. St. 2002). He was a lecturer at University College (Oxford) and an assistant (2004-09) and then associate professor (2009-12) at the department of the Classics at Harvard, before he joined the Classics department at Stanford. In the spring of 2007 he was the professeur invité at the École Normale Supérieure (Paris), in 2008/9 the APA fellow at the Thesaurus Linguae Latinae in Munich (on which see his “You say putator” in the TLS), and, most recently, the recipient of the Christian Gauss Book Award from the Phi Beta Kappa Society.
His publications include Negotiatio Germaniae. Tacitus’ Germania und Enea Silvio Piccolomini, Giannantonio Campano, Conrad Celtis und Heinrich Bebel (Göttingen: Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht, 2005), and A most dangerous book. Tacitus’s Germania from the Roman Empire to the Third Reich (New York: W.W. Norton, 2011), which has or will be translated into six languages. He has also co-edited a volume on Time and Narrative in Ancient Historiography: The ‘Plupast’ from Herodotus to Appian (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 2012). He is currently preparing a commentary on Caesar’s Bellum Gallicum 7 as well as an intellectual history of the late Roman Republic (with W.W. Norton); he is also co-editing the Cambridge Companion to Caesar. Other long-term projects and interests focus on Posidonius, Sallust and Tacitus, Latin lexicography, Thersites and Prometheus, and Annio di Viterbo.
He organized and co-chaired a seminar on Classical Traditions at Harvard Humanities Center, where he also co-hosted a conference on “The Reception of Odysseus in Literature, Art, and Music” (April 2009). He co-organized a conference on “The historians’ Plupast” (2006), an APA Panel on “Caesar the ‘Litterator’” (January 2012), and a conference on “Caesar: Writer, Speaker and Linguist,” at Amherst College (September 2012). He will deliver the third annual Herbert W. Benario lecture in Roman Studies (at Emory University) in the fall of 2013 and the forty-third Skotheim Lecture in History (at Whitman College) in the spring of 2014. In the summer of 2014 he will co-teach in France a seminar on Caesar in Gaul for the Paideia Institute.

Margaret Krebs

Staff, Woods InstituteBioMargaret brings a diverse range of skills and experiences as Program Designer of the Leading Interdisciplinary Collaborations (LInC) Program. She served as the Program Designer for the Earth Leadership Program, focusing on defining the key leadership skills and approaches for "knowledge to action" for fifteen years. Margaret’s commitment and experience designing leadership development programs led her to be selected as a participant in the 2014 Leadership for Collective Intelligences, led by Dialogos. She has melded the content of that training with her own interdisciplinary experience and is now co-designing and facilitating other academic-related programs such as the AAAS program, Emerging Leaders in Science and Society and the International Social Science Council’s grantees participating in the Transformations to Sustainability Programme.
From 2019 to the present, she has directed a NSF grant project, Transdisciplinary Training Collaboratory: Building Common Ground, convening a group of thought leaders and experienced trainers from regional center worldwide. The group produced a design guide to enable this approach to become more standardized, resulting in broader participation globally.
Prior to joining the Leopold Leadership Program, Margaret managed two Stanford training grants to design new learning environments that integrated technology to support teaching and learning. Margaret’s interest in teaching and learning developed while she was an undergraduate in innovative study programs at Earlham College and evolved further when she became a teacher designing a “school without walls” in Philadelphia. This background inspired her future work in developing programs to bring research and innovation to new audiences in diverse settings – from an early childhood research center in New Haven, Connecticut to Cisco Systems in Silicon Valley. -

Jill Kries
Postdoctoral Scholar, Psychology
BioI am a postdoc at the Stanford Psychology Department and Wu Tsai Neurosciences Institute, working with Prof. Laura Gwilliams. My work is situated in the field of cognitive neuroscience, where I study how speech and language are implemented in the brain. How does our brain make sense of the sounds that we're hearing? What happens in the brain while we speak? These are questions that I address in my research. I approach them using natural language paradigms, neurophysiology, computational methods and cognitive tests, in healthy adults as well as in people with diverse language phenotypes, such as at different time points of the lifespan (development and aging) or people with language disorders (for example aphasia, dyslexia, epilepsy). Characterizing speech processing in these populations helps (1) understanding the life stage or disorder better and (2) identifying crucial mechanisms involved in language processing in the neurotypical brain. My research contributes to both theoretical understanding and practical applications, exploring the potential for developing diagnostic and therapeutic tools. The neural recording techniques I am mainly focusing on to achieve this are scalp EEG, intracranial EEG, and OPM-MEG.

Prashanth Krishnamohan, MD

He is a clinical assistant professor of neurology and neurological sciences and, by courtesy, of neurosurgery at Stanford University School of Medicine. In addition, he is Medical Director of the Neurosciences Service Line at Stanford Health Care – ValleyCare and is Medical Director of its Stroke program.
Dr. Krishnamohan excels in the diagnosis and treatment of neurological conditions. His clinical interests include the management of stroke, epilepsy, concussion, and coma. With every patient, his goal is to provide personalized care designed to optimize neurological function for the best possible clinical outcome and quality of life.
He has published extensively on topics including innovations in stroke care quality management and measurement, rapid bedside evaluation of seizures in the ICU, and EEG metrics in comatose cardiac arrest patients. Articles by Dr. Krishnamohan have appeared in Neuroanesthesia and Neurocritical Care, Quality Management in Healthcare, Current Infectious Disease Reports, and other journals. He has presented his research findings at the annual meetings of the Neurocritical Care Society and American Academy of Neurology.
He has authored chapters on post-concussive syndrome, stroke, and other conditions for the guidebook Ferri’s Clinical Advisor. In addition, he is a reviewer for the Journal of Neuroscience Nursing, Neurohospitalist, and the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Psychiatry.
Dr. Krishnamohan has won recognition from Stanford Health Care, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement Open School, the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, and PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research – the latter two his alma maters.
Dr. Krishnamohan is a member of the Neurocritical Care Society, American Academy of Neurology, and American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. He volunteers as a community health educator with numerous organizations. -
Anandi Krishnan

Visiting Scholar, Institute for Immunity, Transplantation, and Infection OperationsBioDr. Krishnan is a translational scientist with experiences in engineering, biosciences, molecular genetics and hematology. Having recently completed her NIH clinical scientist career development award (NHGRI 1K08HG010061-01A1, 2018-24), and NIH-supported research re-entry (NCATS 3UL1TR001085-04S1, 2016-18), Anandi’s interests are in expanding our understanding of the multifaceted function of anucleate blood platelets and their parent megakaryocytes in human disease.
Her current work, applying platelet transcriptome profiling and machine learning principles, aims to nominate novel clinically relevant strategies for personalized cancer and antiplatelet/antithrombotic therapy. Continued development of this research is likely to identify key mechanistic variables in platelet- and megakaryocyte-specific response to health and disease.
Recent contributions in both computational and mechanistic components of platelet and blood research lay the groundwork for sustaining contributions to the field of hematology genomic medicine (e.g. Shen et al PMID 34755136, Seetharam et al PMID 36712071, Kelliher et al PMID 37961700, Thomas & Krishnan PMID 38175681, Abbonante et al PMID 38165147, Jutzi et al PMID 35763665, Campbell et al PMID 36194487). Anandi was also was one of the first non-MD PhD scientist to be awarded the NHGRI K08 Clinical Scientist Research Career Development Award, the HTRS Mid-Career Research Award, and the MPN Research Foundation Challenge Grant Award, reflecting her consistent efforts bridging basic and clinical disciplines.

Siddharth Krishnan

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsThe Krishnan Lab develops bioelectronic devices, tools and systems for closed loop disease management. Our work is divided into the following broad areas:
1. Biohybrid electronics for therapy and sensing: we combine living cells as functional parts of implantable devices, leveraging their ability to produce complex biologic therapeutics in a constitutive or triggerable manner, and their ability to sense their complex dynamic environment. These efforts are focused on developed functional cures for diseases like Type I Diabetes and other conditions requiring the regular infusion of proteins, peptides or antibody drugs.
2. Digital drug release systems for particulate forms of biologic drugs: Many complex protein and peptide drugs are not stable in solution, thereby frustrating the ability to delivery them through pumps and autoinjectors. This need is particularly acute for drugs that need to be administered as emergency rescue therapies, such as glucagon in the context of type 1 Diabetes. We develop implantable, miniaturized microelectromechanical devices that can store particulate (powders, pills) forms of these drugs and release them in a close loop manner based on wireless inputs from sensors.
3. Wearable sensors: Wearables to detect biophysical (temperature, flow, cardiac activity) and biochemical markers of health are gaining importance for closed-loop disease management and personalized medicine. We design hardware for on-chip molecular profiling based on sampling biofluids in noninvasive or minimally invasive formats.
4. New wireless power architectures for implantable bioelectronics: We develop high-power, high-efficiency strongly coupled power harvesting system to power battery-free implant systems. -
Yuva Karthik Krishnapillai B.S.

BioYuva Krishnapillai is a current research scholar affiliated with the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine at Stanford University. His focus of study revolves around perioperative neuroscience, EEG-defined brain states, and immediate and long-term cognitive change with the goal of improving cognitive and functional outcomes after surgery. Krishnapillai is involved in numerous prospective and retrospective research investigations examining perioperative outcomes and is involved in collaborative work with UC Riverside School of Medicine and UC San Francisco School of Medicine.

Christina Krist

BioDr. Krist's research examines how science learning environments can be structured to support students' epistemic agency, sense of belonging, and authority as knowers, with particular attention to students and communities who are systematically marginalized in STEM. This work spans three levels of design: classroom practice, course structure, and community partnership. Her projects include developing professional development models that support K-12 teachers in building community partnerships for justice-centered science teaching, supporting the structural redesign of introductory undergraduate STEM courses to strengthen students' epistemologies and sense of belonging, and collaborative work with families and local communities to drive educational transformation. Several current projects extend this agenda to new domains, including the use of generative AI to support teacher planning and the development of strengths-based approaches to understanding student engagement.
Dr. Krist received her PhD in Learning Sciences from Northwestern University in 2016 and was a postdoctoral scholar at the University of Maryland from 2016-2017. Her early career work has been supported by an NAEd/Spencer Postdoctoral Fellowship as well as grants from the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health. She was recently recognized with NARST’s 2023 Early Career Research Award. -
