Nathanael S. Gray
Krishnan-Shah Family Professor
BioNathanael Gray is the Krishnan-Shah Family Professor of Chemical and Systems Biology at Stanford, Co-Director of Cancer Drug Discovery Co-Leader of the Cancer Therapeutics Research Program, Member of Chem-H, and Program Leader for Small Molecule Drug Discovery for the Innovative Medicines Accelerator (IMA). His research utilizes the tools of synthetic chemistry, protein biochemistry, and cancer biology to discover and validate new strategies for the inhibition of anti-cancer targets. Dr. Gray’s research has had broad impact in the areas of kinase inhibitor design and in circumventing drug resistance.
Dr. Gray received his PhD in organic chemistry from the University of California at Berkeley in 1999 after receiving his BS degree with the highest honor award from the same institution in 1995. After completing his PhD, Dr. Gray was recruited to the newly established Genomics Institute of the Novartis Research Foundation (GNF) in San Diego, California. During his six year stay at GNF, Dr. Gray became the director of biological chemistry where he supervised a group of over fifty researchers integrating chemical, biological and pharmacological approaches towards the development of new experimental drugs. Some of the notable accomplishments of Dr. Gray’s team at GNF include: discovery of the first allosteric inhibitors of wild-type and mutant forms of BCR-ABL which resulted in clinical development of ABL001; discovery of the first selective inhibitors of the Anaplastic Lymphoma Kinase (ALK), an achievement that led to the development of now FDA-approved drugs such as ceritinib (LDK378) for the treatment of EML4-ALK expressing non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC); and discovery that sphingosine-1-phosphate receptor-1 (S1P1) is the pharmacologically relevant target of the immunosuppressant drug Fingomilod (FTY720) followed by the development of Siponimod (BAF312), which is currently used for the treatment of multiple sclerosis.
In 2006, Dr. Gray returned to academia as a faculty member at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School in Boston. There, he has established a discovery chemistry group that focuses on developing first-in-class inhibitors for newly emerging biological targets, including resistant alleles of existing targets, as well as inhibitors of well-validated targets, such as Her3 and RAS, that have previously been considered recalcitrant to small molecule drug development. Dr. Gray’s team developed covalent inhibitors of the T790M mutant of EGFR inspired the development of Osimertinib (AZD9291), now FDA approved for treatment of patients with relapsed lung cancer due to resistance to first generation EGFR inhibitors. Dr. Gray has also developed structure-based, generalized approaches for designing drugs to overcome one of the most common mechanisms of resistance observed against most kinase inhibitor drugs, mutation of the so-called "gatekeeper" residue, which has been observed in resistance to drugs targeting BCR-ABL, c-KIT and PDGFR.
In 2021, Dr. Gray joined Stanford University where he has joined the Stanford Cancer Institute, Chem-H and the Innovative Medicines Accelerator (IMA) to spur the development of prototype drugs.
These contributions have been recognized through numerous awards including the National Science Foundation’s Career award in 2007, the Damon Runyon Foundation Innovator award in 2008, the American Association for Cancer Research for Team Science in 2010 and for Outstanding Achievement in 2011 and the American Chemical Society award for Biological Chemistry in 2011, and the Nancy Lurie Marks endowed professorship in 2015 and the Paul Marks Prize in 2019, and the Hope Funds for Cancer Research in 2023. -
Robert M Gray

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsMy current research falls in the intersection of Shannon information theory and signal processing. In particular, I am interested in the theory and design of block codes and sliding-block (or stationary or time-invariant) codes for data compression and their relation to each other. Block codes are far better understood and more widely used, but their lack of stationarity causes difficulties in theory and artifacts in practice. Very little is known about the design of good sliding-block codes, but the problem is known to be equivalent to the design of entropy-constrained simulators of complex random processes. I also do research in the history of information theory and signal processing, especially in the development of speech processing systems and real time signal processing.

Yoel Green, MD

BioDr. Yoel Green is a board-certified, fellowship-trained sleep medicine specialist at Stanford Health Care. He also serves as a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Division of Sleep Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine.
Dr. Green specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders, including narcolepsy, parasomnias, and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). He also diagnoses and treats sleep-wake cycle disorders and restless legs syndrome (RLS). He integrates sleep data with patients’ lived experience to provide clear, personalized care.
Dr. Green’s research focuses on improving the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders. His work has appeared in peer-reviewed journals such as Biological Psychiatry and SLEEP. He has authored textbook chapters and presented at national meetings, including the American Psychiatric Association (APA) Annual Meeting.
Dr. Green is a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the APA, and the Canadian Sleep Society. -

Peter Greenberg

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsDr Greenberg's clinical research involves design and coordination of clinical trials using experimental drugs with biologic focus for both lower and higher risk MDS patients not responding to standard therapies. These studies are particularly based on his prior laboratory investigations of gene expression and hematopoietic regulation in MDS patients. He is Coordinator of the International Working Group for Prognosis in MDS (IWG-PM) which generated the revised MDS classification system (the IPSS-R) and the mutation-based prognostic risk system, the IPSS-Molecular (IPSS-M). This project uses such findings to more specifically characterize and treat MDS patients. He is Chair of the NCCN Practice Guidelines Panel for MDS.

Maxwell Greene, MD

BioDr. Greene is a board-certified, fellowship-trained neurologist. He is also a Clinical Assistant Professor of Neurology at Stanford University School of Medicine.
Dr. Greene provides clinical care for adult patients with disorders of the muscles and peripheral nerves that cause weakness and numbness. He specializes in diagnosing and treating neuromuscular diseases that include amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), all types of muscular dystrophy, chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP), myasthenia gravis, and Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT). For CIDP and CMT, Stanford is one of the few centers of excellence in the country.
A significant part of Dr. Greene’s practice involves investigational work, where he seeks to determine the cause of a patient’s symptoms. In addition to performing the full range of diagnostic tests including interpreting biopsy procedures, he has special qualifications in electrodiagnosis and the use of electromyography and nerve conduction studies.
Treatments offered by Dr. Greene cover the complete spectrum of options, with an emphasis on immune therapies for certain conditions. For CIDP and myasthenia gravis, he administers immune globulin, steroids, plasmapheresis, and rituximab. To help manage symptoms of CMT and support areas of the body weakened by this disease, he can recommend physical therapy, occupational therapy, and foot, ankle, and knee orthotics.
For the treatment of ALS and muscular dystrophy, Dr. Greene leads a multidisciplinary team offering physical and occupational therapy, pulmonary expertise, speech and swallow expertise, nutrition counseling, social services, and specialized nursing, and works together with genetic counseling. All team members collaborate closely to ensure patients receive the care and comfort needed to meet their emotional as well as physical needs.
As part of his commitment to advancing patients’ treatment options, Dr. Greene conducts clinical research. Among his current interests are
innovative new therapies for ALS and other nerve and muscular disorders. This is an exciting time in the field of neuromuscular medicine, with real potential for treatment breakthroughs for the first time in decades. Exploring these new directions enables Dr. Greene to offer Stanford patients access to options that may not be available anywhere else.
To highlight new advances for his peers, Dr. Greene has made national and regional presentations at conferences including the American Academy of Neurology meeting. Topics include the results of a study supported in part by the National Institutes of Health: paraneoplastic antibodies as markers of Hodgkin’s disease. JAMA Neurology published Dr. Greene’s article on this research.
Dr. Greene’s achievements have earned recognition from the American Academy of Neurology and other organizations. He is also the recipient of a travel award from the American Neurological Association and a grant from the NIH National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.
A member of the American Academy of Neurology, Dr. Greene is also an active member of the Western ALS Consortium and Northeastern ALS Consortium. -
Roland Greene

BioRoland Greene's research and teaching are concerned with the early modern literatures of England, Latin Europe, and the transatlantic world, and with poetry and poetics from the Renaissance to the present.
His most recent book is Five Words: Critical Semantics in the Age of Shakespeare and Cervantes (Chicago, 2013). Five Words proposes an understanding of early modern culture through the changes embodied in five words or concepts over the sixteenth century: in English, blood, invention, language, resistance, and world, and their counterparts in French, Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese.
Other books include Unrequited Conquests: Love and Empire in the Colonial Americas (Chicago, 1999), which follows the love poetry of the Renaissance into fresh political and colonial contexts in the New World; and Post-Petrarchism: Origins and Innovations of the Western Lyric Sequence (Princeton, 1991), a transhistorical and comparative study of lyric poetics through the fortunes of the lyric sequence from Petrarch to Neruda. Greene is the editor with Elizabeth Fowler of The Project of Prose in Early Modern Europe and the New World (Cambridge, 1997). His essays address topics such as the colonial baroque, Edmund Spenser's Faerie Queene and Amoretti, Sir Thomas Wyatt's poetry, and Shakespeare's The Tempest.
Greene is editor in chief of the fourth edition of the Princeton Encyclopedia of Poetry and Poetics, which was published in 2012. Prepared in collaboration with the general editor Stephen Cushman and the associate editors Clare Cavanagh, Jahan Ramazani, and Paul Rouzer, this edition represents a complete revision of the most authoritative reference book on poetry and poetics.
In 2015-16 he served as President of the Modern Language Association.
At Stanford Greene has been co-chair and founder of two research workshops in which most of his Ph.D. students participate. Renaissances brings together early modernists from the Bay Area to discuss work in progress, while the Poetics Workshop provides a venue for innovative scholarship in the broad field of international and historical poetics.
Greene has taught at Harvard and Oregon, where for six years he was chair of the Department of Comparative Literature. He has held fellowships from the American Council of Learned Societies, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Danforth Foundation, among others. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. -

Our efforts are split between building new tools to leverage the power of high-throughput sequencing technologies and cutting-edge optical microscopies, and bringing these technologies to bear against basic biological questions by linking DNA sequence, structure, and function.

J. Christian Greer

BioJ. Christian Greer, PhD, is a scholar of Religious Studies with a special focus on psychedelic culture. He holds a MDiv from Harvard Divinity School, as well as a MA and PhD (cum laude) in Western Esotericism from the University of Amsterdam. While a postdoctoral researcher at Harvard Divinity School, he led a series of seminars on global psychedelic cultures, which culminated in the creation of the "Harvard Psychedelic Walking Tour," a free audio guide detailing how the Harvard community has shaped the modern history of psychedelic culture. He is also the co-founder, and currently the co-chair of the "Drugs and Religion" program unit at the American Academy of Religion.
His forthcoming book, "Angelheaded Hipsters: Psychedelic Militancy in Nineteen Eighties North America" (Oxford University Press), explores the expansion of psychedelic culture within fanzine networks in the late Cold War era. He has held teaching positions at Harvard University and Yale University, and is currently a lecturer at Stanford University. His other books include, "Void Machines: the Paper Shrines of J. Christian Greer," a collection of his esoteric artworks, and "Kumano Kodo: Pilgrimage to Powerspots" (co-authored with Dr. Michelle Oing) which analyzes the pilgrimage folklore associated with the rainforests of Japan's Kii Peninsula.
Each winter, he partners with the University of Amsterdam to offer an introduction to the study of occultism, hosted on ZOOM, entitled "FORBIDDEN KNOWLEDGE: Introduction to Esotericism." Similarly, each summer, he organizes an intensive summer school course on the University of Amsterdam's campus entitled, "THE PSYCHEDELIC UNIVERSE: Global Perspectives on Higher Consciousness." -
Christopher Gregg

BioChris Gregg received his Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from the University of Virginia in 2012, has a Master's of Education from Harvard University (2002), and a BS in Electrical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University (1994). Prior to becoming a lecturer at Stanford, Chris was a lecturer in the computer science department at Tufts University, and prior to that he taught high school physics in Massachusetts and California for seven years. Chris was on active duty in the Navy for seven years, and remains as a Commander in the Navy Reserves in the Information Warfare / Cryptology community.
Chris's research interests include computer architecture (specifically, general purpose computing on GPUs) and the pedagogy of computer science teaching and instruction. -

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsAs the Founding Director of the Stanford Center for Memory Disorders and Principal Investigator of a lab focused on the genetics of Alzheimer's disease (AD), Dr. Greicius' research focuses on elucidating the neurobiologic underpinnings of AD. His lab combines cutting edge brain imaging, "deep" phenotyping, and whole-genome sequencing of human subjects to identify novel pathways involved in AD pathogenesis. The goal of his work is to develop effective treatment for AD patients.

Mark Greif

BioMark Greif’s scholarly work looks at the connections of literature to intellectual and cultural history, the popular arts, aesthetics and everyday ethics. He taught at the New School and Brown before coming to Stanford.
He is the author of The Age of the Crisis of Man: Thought and Fiction in America, 1933-1973 (Princeton, 2015), which received the Morris D. Forkosch Prize from the Journal of the History of Ideas, and the Susanne M. Glasscock Prize for interdisciplinary humanities scholarship. His book Against Everything: Essays (Pantheon, 2016) was a finalist for the National Book Critics’ Circle Award in Criticism. His current book concerns the history and aesthetics of pornography from the eighteenth century to the internet age.
In 2003, Greif was a founder of the journal n+1, and has been a principal member of the organization since. His books as co-editor and co-author have included The Trouble is the Banks: Letters to Wall Street (n+1/FSG, 2012), Occupy!: Scenes from Occupied America (Verso, 2011), and What Was the Hipster?: A Sociological Investigation (n+1/HarperCollins, 2010). His books and articles have been translated into German, Spanish, French, Dutch, Polish, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.
He has been a Marshall Scholar, and has received fellowships from the Institute of Advanced Study in Princeton, the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford, and the American Council of Learned Societies. He is a member of the New York Institute for the Humanities at NYU.
Greif has written for publications including the London Review of Books, New York Times, Guardian, Süddeutsche Zeitung, and Le Monde, and his essays have been selected for Best American Essays and the Norton Anthology. He remains interested in the relationships between high scholarship, literary and arts journalism, low culture, and small magazines. -

BioKarolina Grekov, MD, MA, serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor in Pediatric Critical Care, Pediatric Palliative Care, and Bioethics. Her academic interests include the nuanced role of language, culture, and spirituality in medical communication and shared decision-making. She completed her pediatric residency at Children's Hospital of Los Angeles (CHLA), where she also served as chief resident. She then went on to obtain advanced fellowship training in pediatric critical care at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford where she served as chief fellow, and pediatric palliative care at Boston Children's Hospital in the Harvard Interprofessional Palliative Care Fellowship program.

Peter Griffin
Sr Research Engineer, Electrical Engineering
BioPeter Griffin is an expert in microfabrication, having co-authored one of the most widely used textbooks in the area. A new version titled “Integrated Circuit Fabrication – Science and Technology” co-authored with Prof. Jim Plummer will be published in early 2024 by Cambridge University press (https://plummergriffinbook.stanford.edu/). He is an electrical engineer by training with a BE and ME from University College Cork, Ireland and a PhD from Stanford University. He remained at Stanford as a research scientist. For the past two decades, he has performed interdisciplinary work at the Stanford Genome Technology Center (SGTC) with a particular emphasis on digital microfluidics. He is particularly interested in how technology can contribute to bioengineering and was the lead author on major DARPA, NIH and SRC grants in various application areas. Griffin has enjoyed long term collaborations with leading researchers on those interdisciplinary grants which has made his time at Stanford very productive. Griffin’s current interest is on impedance measurements for diagnostics in the laboratory of Prof. Lars Steinmetz at SGTC.

BioFiona Griffiths is a historian of medieval Western Europe, focusing on intellectual and religious life from the ninth to the thirteenth century. Her work explores the possibilities for social experimentation and cultural production inherent in medieval religious reform movements, addressing questions of gender, spirituality, and authority, particularly as they pertain to the experiences and interactions of religious men (priests or monks) with women (nuns and clerical wives). Griffiths is the author of Nuns' Priests' Tales: Men and Salvation in Medieval Women's Monastic Life,The Middle Ages Series (The University of Pennsylvania Press: 2018) and The Garden of Delights: Reform and Renaissance for Women in the Twelfth Century, The Middle Ages Series (The University of Pennsylvania Press: 2007); she is co-editor (with Kathryn Starkey) of Sensory Reflections: Traces of Experience in Medieval Artifacts (Berlin: De Gruyter, 2019) and (with Julie Hotchin) of Partners in Spirit: Men, Women, and Religious Life in Germany, 1100-1500 (Turnhout: Brepols, 2014). Her essays have appeared in Speculum, Early Medieval Europe, Church History, the Journal of Medieval History, postmedieval, and Viator. Current Research and Scholarly InterestsFor humans, recognition is a natural, effortless skill that occurs within a few hundreds of milliseconds, yet it is one of the least understood aspects of visual perception. Our research utilizes functional imaging (fMRI),diffusion weighted imaging (DWI), computational techniques, and behavioral methods to investigate the neural mechanisms underlying visual recognition in humans. We also examine the development of these mechanisms from childhood to adulthood as well as between populations.

BioAnn Grimes directs the Journalism Program at the Starling Lab for Data Integrity, anchored in Stanford's School of Engineering and at USC. She also teaches in the Department of Electrical Engineering and is a Research Fellow in Stanford's Compression Forum. Her teaching and research focus on authenticity in digital media and information systems. She previously served as Director of Stanford's Graduate Program in Journalism, co-directed Stanford's Brown Institute for Media Innovation, held senior editorial positions at The Wall Street Journal and Washington Post, and was awarded a John S. Knight Fellowship. Cornelius Botha Groenewald

BioDr. Groenewald is Director of Pediatric Anesthesiology Research at Stanford University School of Medicine. He conducts clinical research that crosses several areas related to child health, including epidemiology, health services research, pediatric pain, sleep deficiency, and opioid use behaviors. His research is funded by the National Institutes of Health, International Association for the Study of Pain, and the Society for Pediatric Anesthesiology. His work on pediatric pain, sleep disturbance, and opioid use has been published in JAMA Pediatrics, Pediatrics, PAIN, Journal of Pain, SLEEP, and JAMA Psychiatry. Current Research and Scholarly InterestsA part of the laboratory studies organ injury and how common genetic variants may affect the response to injury caused by surgery; particularly aldehydes. Aldehyde accumulation can cause many post-operative complications that people experience during surgery- whether it be reperfusion injury, post-operative pain, cognitive dysfunction, or nausea. The other part of the lab studies the impact of e-cigarettes and alcohol, when coupled with genetics, on the cardiopulmonary system.

I study the evolution of the Earth's crust by undertaking petrologic and geochemically-based research that is grounded with fieldwork. I co-direct the Stanford-USGS ion probe laboratory and develop geochronologic methods to constrain crystallization, metamorphic, and metasomatic histories of the middle to deep crust. Similarly, because heat flow characteristically attends mass transfer during crustal deformation, I employ 40Ar/39Ar and (U-Th)/He thermochronology to extract thermal history information from minerals to constrain the timing and magnitude of fault slip as well as erosional and tectonic denudation. Finally, I am heavily involved in provenance studies to constrain aspects of crustal deformation and erosion that are only preserved in the sedimentary record. -

BioDr. Grummon is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and (by courtesy) Health Policy and the Director of the Stanford Food Policy Lab. Dr. Grummon is a behavioral scientist whose work seeks to identify and evaluate policies that encourage healthy eating and help children and their families live long, healthy lives. In her work, Dr. Grummon uses randomized trials, natural experiments, and simulation modeling to examine how food policies like warning labels, beverage taxes, and food assistance programs affect what we eat and how healthy we are. She also studies strategies for encouraging people to choose foods that are more environmentally sustainable. Dr. Grummon's program of research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, and others. Her work has been published in leading medical and public health journals including JAMA, New England Journal of Medicine, Science, and the American Journal of Public Health and received coverage in news outlets such as the New York Times, the Washington Post, NBC, NPR, and Forbes.
Dr. Grummon holds a PhD and MSPH in Health Behavior from the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health and a BA with Honors in Human Biology from Stanford. She completed her postdoctoral training at Harvard. -

BioDavid B. Grusky is Barbara Kimball Browning Professor in the School of Humanities and Sciences, Director of the Stanford Center on Poverty and Inequality, and coeditor of Pathways Magazine. His research addresses the changing structure of late-industrial inequality and addresses such topics as (a) the role of rent-seeking and market failure in explaining the takeoff in income inequality, (b) the amount of economic and social mobility in the U.S. and other high-inequality countries (with a particular focus on the “Great Gatsby” hypothesis that opportunities for social mobility are declining), (c) the role of essentialism in explaining the persistence of extreme gender inequality, (d) the forces behind recent changes in the amount of face-to-face and online cross-class contact, and (e) the putative decline of big social classes. He is also involved in projects to improve the country’s infrastructure for monitoring poverty, inequality, and mobility by exploiting administrative and other forms of “big data” more aggressively. His recent books include Social Stratification (2014), Occupy the Future (2013), The New Gilded Age (2012), The Great Recession (2011), The Inequality Reader (2011), and The Inequality Puzzle (2010).

Brandon Alan Guenthart
Clinical Assistant Professor, Cardiothoracic Surgery
BioDr. Guenthart is a board-certified, fellowship-trained cardiothoracic surgeon. He is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
He specializes in providing leading-edge surgical treatment for people with cancer and end-stage heart and lung disease. He performs the full range of surgical procedures ranging from minimally invasive thoracic surgery to heart and lung transplantation. Dr. Guenthart practices all aspects of thoracic surgery, including procedures for benign and malignant conditions of the airway, lung, mediastinum, esophagus, and foregut. He has a particular interest in minimally invasive techniques and has extensive experience in video-assisted thoracoscopic surgical (VATS), laparoscopic, robotic, endoscopic, and bronchoscopic approaches.
Dr. Guenthart earned his medical degree at Temple University School of Medicine. He completed general surgery residency at Cornell and a post-doctoral research fellowship in tissue bioengineering at Columbia University in the Laboratory for Stem Cells and Tissue Engineering. He then completed cardiothoracic surgery fellowship and advanced fellowship training in cardiothoracic transplantation and mechanical circulatory support at Stanford University.
Dr. Guenthart has conducted research supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health, Stanford University School of Medicine, and Columbia University. Dr. Guenthart has a particular interest in end-stage lung disease and his research focuses on lung perfusion and bioengineering strategies to promote lung recovery and regeneration. He has published in peer-reviewed journals such as Nature Medicine, Nature Biomedical Engineering, the Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation. He has made numerous presentations to his peers at national conferences and given invited talks on patient selection, organ allocation, and other aspects of transplantation.

BioCarlos Guestrin is a Professor in the Computer Science Department at Stanford University. His previous positions include the Amazon Professor of Machine Learning at the Computer Science & Engineering Department of the University of Washington, the Finmeccanica Associate Professor at Carnegie Mellon University, and the Senior Director of Machine Learning and AI at Apple, after the acquisition of Turi, Inc. (formerly GraphLab and Dato) — Carlos co-founded Turi, which developed a platform for developers and data scientist to build and deploy intelligent applications. He is a technical advisor for OctoML.ai. His team also released a number of popular open-source projects, including XGBoost, LIME, Apache TVM, MXNet, Turi Create, GraphLab/PowerGraph, SFrame, and GraphChi.
Carlos received the IJCAI Computers and Thought Award and the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE). He is also a recipient of the ONR Young Investigator Award, NSF Career Award, Alfred P. BioDr. Ilang M. Guiroy is a board-certified, fellowship-trained physician scientist and psychiatrist at Stanford Health Care and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University School of Medicine.
Dr. Guiroy is director of the Guiroy Lab at Stanford. Her research explores maternal-infant mental health and digital mental health, including the use of social media, digital communities, and AI for mental health. She developed a groundbreaking telehealth platform to deliver psychotherapy via group chat to digital communities.
Dr. Guiroy treats mental health conditions in patients throughout the lifespan, from conception to elder age. She has a special interest in infant, child, and maternal mental health and provides medication management during pregnancy, postpartum, and breastfeeding. Dr. Guiroy provides expert support to patients coping with birth trauma, transitioning to motherhood, and fostering infant attachment and maternal bonding. Dr. Guiroy is skilled in over twelve therapy modalities including maternal-infant dyadic therapy, interpersonal therapy (IPT), and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).
Dr. Guiroy has published her research in peer-reviewed journals, including Journal of Technology in Behavioral Science and Telemedicine and e-Health. Vanessa Gulla, MD

BioDr. Gulla is a board-certified urologist with fellowship training in endourology. She is a clinical assistant professor in the Stanford University School of Medicine Department of Urology.
For each patient, she develops a comprehensive, compassionate care plan customized to individual needs. Her goal is to help each patient achieve the best possible health and quality of life.
Dr. Gulla performs the complete spectrum of diagnostic and treatment procedures for urological conditions. She treats disorders including benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), blood in urine, kidney stones, male and female voiding dysfunction, neurogenic bladder, prostate cancer, and over active bladder.
She excels at ureteroscopy and cystoscopy (examination of the bladder and urinary tract with a scope), endourology (minimally invasive treatment of kidney stones), laser therapy, ultrasound-guided diagnosis and treatment, urodynamic testing, and other techniques.
To help advance her field, Dr. Gulla has conducted research. Among the topics she has investigated are voiding cystourethrogram (VCUG) testing in children for bladder and urethral abnormalities and for conditions that can lead to kidney infections.
She has presented her research findings at the national meeting of the American Urologic Association. She also has published papers in the Journal of the American College of Surgeons and elsewhere.

Hans Ulrich Gumbrecht

BioHans Ulrich Gumbrecht is the Albert Guérard Professor in Literature in the Departments of Comparative Literature and of French & Italian (and by courtesy, he is affiliated with the Department of Iberian and Latin American Cultures/ILAC, the Department of German Studies, and the Program in Modern Thought & Literature). As a scholar, Gumbrecht focuses on the histories of national literatures in Romance language (especially French, Spanish, and Brazilian), but also on German literature, while, at the same time, he teaches and writes about the western philosophical tradition (from a "non-analytic" perspective) with an emphasis on French and German nineteenth- and twentieth-century texts. In addition, Gumbrecht tries to analyze and to understand forms of aesthetic experience in 21st-century everyday culture. Over the past forty years, he has published more than two thousand texts, including books translated into more than twenty languages. In Europe and in South America, Gumbrecht has a presence as a public intellectual; whereas, in the academic world, he has been acknowledged by nine honorary doctorates in six different countries: Canada, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Portugal, and Russia . He has also held a number of visiting professorships, at the Collège de France, University of Budapest, Universidade de Lisboa, University of Manchester, Université de Montréal, Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, and Catholic University of Santiago de Chile.

Patricia Gumport

BioAs a sociologist of higher education, Dr. Gumport has focused her research and teaching on key changes in the academic landscape and organizational character of American higher education. She has studied the dynamics of academic change in several arenas — illuminating what facilitates change and what impedes it — across and within different types of colleges and universities. Extending core concerns in the sociology of knowledge and institutional theory, Dr. Gumport has analyzed how organizational, intellectual, political, economic, and professional interests redefine the content, structure, and relative legitimacy of academic fields. Specific studies include: the emergence and institutionalization of interdisciplinary fields; graduate education and professional socialization across academic disciplines; organizational restructuring and selective investment; the ascendance of industry logic in public higher education; forces that promote and inhibit academic collaboration; decision-making about appropriate organizational forms to support new ideas; and leading organizational change for optimal effectiveness with internal and external stakeholders. Her research within the United States and Europe examines how universities that are ostensibly competitors determine when and how to collaborate. Her analyses include implications for academic leaders who pursue strategic initiatives, manage environmental pressures and stakeholder interests, and seek leadership development opportunities.

BioRuwan Gunaratne, MD, PhD is an Instructor in Hematology at Stanford University School of Medicine and a board-certified hematologist-oncologist with a clinical focus on acute myeloid leukemia (AML), myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), and myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs). His clinical and translational research centers on improving disease monitoring in myeloid cancers using personalized circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) profiling, a blood-based approach designed to more sensitively track measurable residual disease (MRD), assess treatment response, refine risk stratification, and detect relapse earlier across the myeloid disease spectrum. His research spans the identification, assessment, and management of acute brain dysfunction in hospitalized and critically ill populations, including studies evaluating delirium prediction tools, bedside diagnostic instruments, and neurorecovery outcomes following medical insults. He has contributed to the validation and clinical application of the Stanford Proxy Test for Delirium (S-PTD) and related delirium risk stratification efforts, and has authored systematic reviews and case-based scholarship addressing catatonia, alcohol withdrawal syndromes, and medication-related neurotoxicity. In parallel, Dr. Gunther’s work in integrated behavioral health and medical education examines how psychiatry-led, skills-based interventions can improve recognition of neuropsychiatric and trauma-related symptoms in primary care and inpatient medical settings.
